Buying a new wheel, which is the latest and greatest?

Hi,

I'm fed up with the problems that the company named MonoWheel in Sweden causes me so now I'm out search to buy a new wheel and I think I'll go with one from Ninebot.

Which wheel is the latest and greatest? I looked at the One S2 that seems to be the latest but I'm not sure if it's the best of them?

My gut feeling is that I would like to go with a 16" wheel and not 14". But you guys that tried it, what do you say.

And to you other guys, what wheel do you recommend and why?

Depends mainly on your requirements/whishes/whats important to you:

The main distinguishing points are imho: range/speed/weight/size

Then there would be some more or less minor points like build quality, firmware, app, pwm noise, trolley, lights, music,...

So most will recommend you something one likes himself and is good/perfect for him and possible absolutely not for you.

Since the Ninebot One S2 is your best choice by now, you could take a look at the new Inmotion wheels. There is an own subsection in this forum with many reviews and discussion in this forum especially for inmotion: http://forum.electricunicycle.org/forum/39-inmotion/

My requirements (or wishes) is at least 20km (real life range) with a top speed of ~22-25km/h and I think a 16" wheel is for the better but not a requirement.

Regarding weight I don't care that much.

I only have one hard requirement, the wheel has to be from Ninebot. Because that's one of the few that has resellers in Sweden so it's easy to handle warranty issues.

Ok - if Ninbot is fixed with a speed of ~22-25 km/h your only choices are S2 or P (if it is by now available?)

Depending on your weight, how much inclines are within your track and especially with low ambient temperatures it could easily be, that the S2 will not perform your 20km. Even with the announced maximum milage of 30km. I also would not guarantee 20km for the E+ or P. (maybe just for flat runs without headwind...)

For E+ (and maybe also for P) you would have the chance to get a battery upgrade to double the range:

With the possibility to easy change batteries without loosing any screws (if you bring a backpack with a battery or two) for the S2 I think that's the best choice for me then.

You could be right with the easily swappable batteries - i've never seen a S2 or looked at it in detail. If you like more info/opinions for the S2, here are imho quote some reviews about it...

Googling for "ninebot one s2 review site:forum.electricunicycle.org" returned many results...

I ride the E+ and can tell you that a constant speed of 12 mph (19.3 k/h) is about all you can get.  You can go faster, but tilt back will make it not fun.  Mileage will obviously vary, but I can for sure get 12 miles (19.3 km) with a few hills.  More mileage on flat ground (Up to 17 miles (27 km) if you are willing to ride 3-5 of those miles at Low Battery Warning and 6 mph (9.6 k/h), it's really hard and not fun!).  The trolley handle is a must for me, but not for everyone.

I weigh 160 lbs and am 5'8".  Wonderful riding wheel.

I hear the S2 is also quite comfortable riding, and similar specs to E+ (In Real Life), but not as durable.  If you think it will be tumbling much, or you need to lay it on it's side often for commuting or something, it's going to get beat up quickly.  So will the E+, but it will handle it better.

For range, I carry an extra battery in my pack and swap them on longer rides (See Signature Below), giving me around 30 miles (48-49km) range.  I do wish I had a little more speed at times, but if I'm riding alone, it's not a problem as much as when I'm riding with a group of GotWays.

I personally would recommend One E+ but it doesn't meet your requirement on speed. The top speed without tilting back is around 20km/h. The range fits your demand. 20km is without any problem but over that the machine starts to lower down the top speed.

One S2 is agile and it beeps a lot.

I would recommend to go with 16" if weight is not a problem. There are a few different motherboards revisions and combination of MB ver. 1.3.1 and wheel revision N20 gets me stable cruising speed of 23 km/h (tiltback at ~23.9 km/h). >20 km range is about right(at least for me - 75kg). More range in summertime. And you can easily swap the battery on E+ as well.

The Ninebot One E+ is not the latest and greatest, but it's still a very good deal and hard to beat. It's dependable, and although a bit dated, it still has a really nice design. Also, I enjoy just riding it without being too concerned about marring the finish or achieving warp speed.

Like other Ninebot owners, I hope to see new models or versions with an integrated handle, easy-swap battery, more range and speed, and head and taillights, but I can live with or compensate for these missing features. It is a fantastic all-rounder and reliable, and unlike some other brands, I can trust it.

With a little effort, you can enhance the range with @SuperSport's clever mods, and you will find many users in this forum who are responsive to any requests for help.:)

Welcome, @Jae! Good to hear that you're happy with your wheel. And getting one for your girlfriend was a right step to do. Riding together is much more fun!
