I Joined the Ninebot One E+ Club!

Well I bit the bullet and got myself a brand new Ninebot One E+ from the good folks at Forward California as I couldn't resist the sale pricing they have on right now.  As it lucks out when I bought the wheel the Canadian dollar to US exchange really sucked big time so my $600 (inclds shipping) USD purchase wound up to be a whopping $800 Canadian plus $40 bucks for import fees and taxes.  I'm not complaining too much as it's a good deal no matter how you spin it.  I'm imagining what a $1200 USD KS16 is after the exchange, and whoa I really don't want to spend quite that much... just yet....

I got the same limited edition Flame wheel as @tjcooper did, but I think he faired a bit better with free shipping within the US.  Up close and personal the wheel looks really good, and even though they upped the price a bit the custom flame vinyl wrap (I think that's what it is - not a cheap sticker?) is well applied.  There are some weird ripples if you look really close on the edges, but it's really not too bad.   I like the black side pads as I hope they will hide dirt from scuffs better than the lighter grey on the white models.

My wheel only took 30 minutes to charge up full which was a surprise, but the app showed 27 km range and battery full so that was fine by me!  I do notice that the Ninebot is like super heavy as compared to my little dinky generic wheel.  The one sided retractable handle looks nice, but I wonder if fingers will get squished if one grabs it and accidentally pushes down at the same time.  I think a two sided solid handle is less prone to nutcracking fingers.

After checking tire pressure which was at a soft 15 psi, I pumped it up to about 30-35 psi (gotta get my compressor next time as the little hand pump couldn't get it to 40).  I noticed the firmware was at about 1.2.7 or 1.2.2 - I can't remember as I was all giddy about going for a ride.  I've been fighting an awful cold or two for the past month (!) so I haven't been rolling as much as I wish I was.

The pedals on this thing are massive!  My gosh my generic has tiny pedals compared to the elephant ears on the Ninebot.  Feels so weird when riding.  You also do notice the extra heft when doing low speed twists to maintain balance, but it's not too bad to get used to.  I went zipping around my neighbourhood, and wow the speed is liberating!  I could not hit the speed limiter as the fear of faceplanting and broken collarbones kept me below 22 kph.  When does this thing beep?  Is there tiltback?  I didn't dare hit it yet as this was my first ride.  I did look at my app as the speed turned reddish as it went over 22 kph... I slowed down right after that!  Also it is so much nicer over bumps than the 14".

I did notice this is a Ninebot One E+ German edition according to the cardboard outer double box.  Not too sure if there are any differences there.  It does sorta explain the German colours of the flame print.

I can confidently say that I am quite happy with my new wheel, and I honestly don't know how people ride at 30-40 kph as it just gets scarey above 20.  I'm used to cruising at 11 kph on my old wheel so maybe it will take some time to get used to the higher speed "bugs on the face" impacts.

I gotta go get some of that carbon fibre trim to dress things up to protect the wheel as I rode it without any padding or protection.  I had no falls though!  My average speed was 16 kph over my 8.3 km run.  It is true that it will be hard going back to my generic wheel after riding this one some more.  The generic was great to learn on though and to smash up with not much care.  It was like $229 USD with free shipping so it doesn't owe my any more kilometres.  I am still waiting for my spare battery pack for it, and I hope to mod it.  I might sell it, but it has given me many good memories it will be hard to part with it.

So that's my news for today.  I am one happy camper so far.

I did try to download it unsuccessfully as I'm running an older jailbroken iPhone 6 to run Kodi as the app needs ios 9 and above I think.  I'll have to up my phone when I get a chance.

You made a great choice! I bought a 9bot One E+ 10 months ago for over $1300 Cnd so you got a super price. I love the ride, speed and control of the E+, and you will get used to it all soon enough. My fastest speed was 26.3 km/hr and it tilted back - no warning beeps, just tilt back. If your battery is low and you max out the speed the tilt back is quite severe, so be warned! People have complained about the handle being fragile, but if you always lift it with your hand as close to the base as possible it shouldn't ever break. Also, push the handle down flat when riding so if you tumble the weight of the 9bot won't damage it. I fill the tire 50 psi - it gives the best ride - after you get used to it! If you go to Chevron gas stations the air pump nozzle fits under the 9bot frame onto the air valve without having to take anything apart. One last thing - when recharging be really careful to line up the charger exactly right on the 9bot - otherwise the 4 tiny pins in it will get bent - don't ask me how I know that.

Thanks for the tips and well wishes everyone.    I have a feeling this may not be my last wheel as I'm always eyeing what's new and cool out there, but for now the speed is plenty fast for me.  I've got a job where I can't afford to injure myself too badly so best to keep things under 20 KPH I think.  Also, why is it that when you're in a car, 20KPH feels like turtle speed, but when you're flying around standing straight up you fear the hand of god will smite you down at any moment?  I've done some downhill skiing at what must have been 60-80 KPH, and that is super fast, but I guess with the snow you have a sense that if you crash things likely will still be okay.  With the hard ashphalt and concrete all around I guess there's no cushioning there so the fear goes up?

There's no warning beeps?  I must be too used to my generic as it beeps all the time like a nagging Nelly.  I kind of miss those as the auditory reminder wakes you up, but yeah it is kind of annoying.

If you update to 1.4.0, the beeps come back.  They still are not very loud, but they are there.  I'm not saying to update, that will ultimately be your choice.

Yeah, speed on these is mostly in the head.  You are partly afraid because of the stories you've heard, and partly because you are actually doing something that is Incredibly not Normal, Riding on ONE Wheel while Standing UP!  Then there's the fact that most of the time while driving a car or skiing, you are more protected.  Airbags, Ski Suits, etc...  The Ski Suit is mostly a placebo, but it does feel safer.

As far as selling your wheel.  If you find you don't need the money, you might just want to keep it.  I sold my TG F3 and have missed it ever since.  I often wish I had a second, ROUGH, wheel for practicing riding backwards, teaching others to ride, or just to have someone else to ride with.  So much so, that I may buy another TG F3 just for that purpose.  Occasionally, BangGood has them for $230 US delivered.

Congrats on your new wheel, I'm sure you will grow to love it.  Play with the Firmness Settings in the app to find your sweet spot.  And lastly, the graphics on your wheel are not a vinyl skin, but printed into the plastic for more wear.  It can still wear off, just not quite as easily.

I've only ridden it once so far, but I love it!  The darker colours are more stealthy plus the flames add a little colour to the bottom.  I like the combo even better than the classic white.  I'm surprised they are selling these for so cheap.  I would have bought two, but the exchange rate really stinks right now.  $449.99 was a crazy deal on these, and $499.99 is still worth it IMHO.  For those in the VSuper 3 thread wanting a matte finish - glossy ain't that bad actually.  My Flame edition has a beautiful gloss to it, and it looks very slick.

It seems to be running fine so I think I'll keep on 1.2.5 for the time being.  Are there any benefits from going to 1.4.0?  The motor is really quiet - even quieter than my generic at speed.  I did experience @Planetpapi's wobbles while riding at one point, but I think it could have been foot position and muscle quiver?  It didn't last long.

I might keep my generic wheel as @SuperSport has made a lot of good points.  I don't think I'd let anyone try my Ninebot yet as I'd hate to have it dinged up!  Looking more carefully at it, SS is correct it is not a vinyl wrap but actually somehow painted onto the shell or maybe melted on.  I've seen those machines on "How It's Made" where I  think they heat up the plastic applique and it melts / molds / adheres onto the plastic part.

Anyone on the fence about buying this Flame Edition - just buy it now before they run out or up the price even further.  I would have thought they would have priced these higher than the classic white as the custom graphics job must cost the manufacturer extra to have applied so it's that much more of a special deal.  

Looking at the Pop Skin vinyl wraps they cost over $100 plus you have to spend all that time and work applying it.  This one comes complete.    It's cool knowing that you have a limited, unique looking wheel that not many other people have.

Speed..... I got 3-4 weeks ago GotWay MCM v3 and my avg. crusing w. 2 bips 26-28km/h and I find it slow or (used to it). When Im done school this year I'll be getting MSuper (most likely) 35km/h +

What safety gear do you wear going at that speed?  Ever taken a fall?  Nearing 20 kph I just feel that oh things could just go very wrong here and wonder what a roll stepping off at that speed would feel like.... Probably not good!  I think when I was younger and had fewer responsibilities I probably had a greater need for speed.  I once took my car up to 210 KPH on an empty highway which was crazy.  In Germany that's nothing, but in Canada our speed maximum is like 110 kph.

And yeah I were near 280 km/h for many years ago and literally felt my driving license tremble in my pocket... It was a strange feeling of both joy and fear. And it was crazy.

@HunkaHunkaBurningLove looks like you got a great price on your Bot.  Fire sale price is way cheaper than what I paid.  You could leave the firmware where it is at and be completely happy with it.  Fastest I have ridden is just over 9 mph according to the app, and that was in the park not concrete.

There's a few safety gear options on AliExpress, but it's probably better to try on gear in person to see how things feel.  If you search for wrist protectors, they have a bunch, but I don't know which ones are good.  There are some that have a plastic plate that is flexible in a glove that look like they might help offer some additional support while others have a rigid palm metal insert and nothing on the back.   A few look to be for weight lifting.  I bought some knee and elbow pads along with a set of BMX gloves and a wrist protector to try out.  I guessed a bit at the sizing as you have to be careful to check to make sure they aren't kids sizes vs adults.

I was also looking at some padded summer motorcycle jackets, but it's a little too hot here to wear those.  At least the padding inserts are more hidden, and they might be good for cooler weather.  When I was going at 11 kph on my generic wheel, I didn't think too much about wearing extra padding, but now with this Ninebot at 22 KPH I think I would feel more confident with some extra shielding.

@HunkaHunkaBurningLove I wish mine would beep at me, even going as fast as I am up to (around 9.5 mph) there is no beep no tiltback.  I feel like a slow person even though to me it feels fast enough to hurt bad.

Trust me you don't want the beeping!  After riding my generic wheel for many months, I was conditioned by my wheel to go only at 11 kph.  Rolling around the neighbourhood it would go beep beep beep all the time.  Very annoying unless you want to try to draw some attention.    One helpful thing though was when approaching pedestrians to pass, I'd hit 12 kph just to get the beeps to kick in so they'd know I was there.  It's so nice having a quieter wheel.  I can't being to imagine what 40-45 KPH on a Gotway feels like.  You could get killed in a car crash going at 45 kph - now imagine no airbags, no seatbelt, ugh it would be frightening on an EUC.

I wonder if you were to set the speed limiter whether it would start beeping sooner with tiltback.  I do hear that the tiltback can be a bit severe on the Ninebot One (dunno if it's firmware version related) so be careful if you encounter it.  On my generic I'd notice just a gradual lean back of the pedals which made me slow down.  Nothing sudden, nothing surprising, just handy.

Good point about setting the speed limiter.  In fact I did set it once to see what would happen and got the tiltback which was pretty strong but no beeps.  Think I will try that again to get more experience with how the tiltback feels and also to try forcing through the tiltback a little, at slow speed of course.  And on the soft ground at the park.

I could not resist. My fingers were possessed. I just purchased another NB1. My wife is going to kill me! The flame edition E+ was only $499.00 with free shipping. It would be easy to explain if she rode an EUC and I gave her my old one but she doesn't ride. I was going to have it shipped to my office but her sister works there. Do they make dog houses with air conditioning?

Your post and photo of your new flame NB got to me. My emotions took over and i purchased one as well. Why the heck do i need two NBs? My wife does not know and she will no doubt be angry. Such a great price @ $499.00 with free shipping. I might just keep it stored and resell it around Christmas.   A fellow impulse buyer!  Welcome to the Flame Club!  You won't be disappointed!  The limited edition is a thing of beauty, and the price is crazy good.  Hopefully you won't have to stay in the doghouse for too long.  Tell your wife you were possessed by the spirit of Elvis and could not resist.

It might give her an excuse now to learn how to ride the Ninebot and get you both going around parks and enjoying the outdoors.  Maybe have her watch @Norwich Girl's video of her and her friend adventuring around the scenic pathways. There's nothing sexier than a woman on a EUC!
