Is it me or does the new ninebot S2 seem like a bit of a downgrade?

Besides the carrying handle what does the 14" s2 do better than the current E+?

Having two batteries actually better then a single larger one? is removing any padding on the sides possibly more comfy? A smaller wheel can't get over objects as nice?

i'm sure the current E+ models will be discontinued... am I missing something?

I think they want to capture a piece of the 14" wheel market and offer a lighter, sleek wheel that appeals more to female riders and the younger segment.  All the other players have 14" offerings so it is natural for them to offer a choice outside their 16" wheel line.  Having a nice looking, compact wheel that is stylish with a proven brand name will appeal to a wider audience.

They likely will follow up with a redesigned 16" replacement for the Ninebot E+.  By designing the S2 with two packs there is some redundancy should a BMS fail as they apparently can run on one or two so they must be in parallel.  Weight distribution is better balanced as well.  With the curved side panels there might not be a need for cushions?

Have to agree on that one. Inmotion V5 looks better than Ninebot S2, but I like the construction of S2 and how easy it is to dissasemble Ninebot EUC's (both E+ and S2) much more... Saw a video of Inmotion V5 teardown and it seems like a drag...

He did confirm the Discontinuing of the current C/E/E+ Models of the One, along side of Full abandonment of the Ninebot P

 

Sorry to break the new, I was VERY sad to hear this, and it might turn me off completely from wanting to become a US Ninebot One Distributor 

 

I am not making any of this up. Its a loss for me too... :(

As far as close ninebot options you guys should look at the KingSong 16", It is 800watts continuous, 3000watt burst Motor. The Battery comes in 640wh or an even larger 820WH, It has a built in trolley handle. and most say it looks almost identical to a ninebot...

I have ridden a buddies 820WH version and all i can say is... It Cleans the clock of my corrent E+... top speed was at 18-19mph even!

@Bryan Wells I don't want to say any bad things about Kingsongs. I just mislike them of a few reasons but that's just me.

But they are popular and owners seems to be happy campers.

What I like about Ninebot inc. though is that they are not only busy with the aestetics and the look of EUC but they are  nearly alone about how it looks under the bonnet. Other wheels may have stronger motors/batteries etc. But I dare to say that there is not that many products that looks as good on the inside as on the outside. Ninebot win hands down here.  I look at you IPS (Zero), Firewheel, partly KingSong and other EUC's that are pretty on the outside but terrible on inside.. I wouldn't go as far as to call'em "Fool's gold" as they perform good and up to the specs... But they have to get rid of that infamous "chinese production" heritage and learn something from Ninebot, - not just the look, but good looking guts too that could give the impression of factory production

Guys, the S2 is basically an E+ in a smaller package. The batteries are designed for making it flyable, since you can fly with two under 160wh batteries in your carry on with most airlines. The S2 is great wheel and 14" is super maneuverable. The C/C+/E/E+ are old at this point and the P has too many issues. I know from the inside but without detail that their R&D department is working on some next gen tech (think uniwheel quality) so I'm certain we will see a spectacular new 16" Ninebot One some time next year.... For now E+ is still easy to get and sure it will be for a while and the S2 is an excellent option for smaller/lighter on the go wheel.

I'm honestly hoping they pick up the speed a bit to about 19-20mph and achieve at least 25-30 miles range (real life). For now, knowing the S2 wasn't sufficient going to cover my speed/mileage needs, I was forced to get a Gotway MCM4 HS (I have an E & E+) which gives me 22mph top with 18-19 cruising, and my 6' 200lb ass get 20miles to 20%battery... Could prob do another 5 easy at 15mph top till 10%.... Anyway, Gotway is an Awesome machine (prefer ride to my bots). I do plan to have an S2 as my travel wheel, and will likely get next years new Bot, but for now my daily wheel is my Gotway....

Anyway.... This is just my 2 cents....

I think that's not anymore the case. IIRC, since a few months most airlines don't officially allow EUC batteries anymore.

There is no reason they need to know its an EUC battery and that's just battery profiling/discrimination... LOL

Take the batteries out of the wheel and pack up the wheel nicely. When you get to the airport you check the wheel. When you get to security you tell them its for "professional audio/visual equipment" as per the guideline...

I get top 22mph on my MCM4HS... I can cruise comfortably at 18-19.... :)

Only caveat to that is, the S2 batteries have a blinking Power LED in the back (even when disconnected from the wheel, I believe).

Some black tape might cover it up appropriately to avoid unnecessary suspicions from airline folk.

The S2 batteries are not shrink wrapped in plastic, they have a black plastic housing.

The distribution of Ninebot is already in place,  It is any Segway dealer.  Ha! ha! Got you!

Hey, just become a Segway dealer, but I could not do that.  Aww man, that is not right.

@Bryan Wellsjust meant that it seems to me that one of the reasons Ninebot aquired Segway was to have a large number of dealers already in place.  Unlike Kingsong, Gotway etc that are sourced through other ways like Ebay or other ways.  People looking to buy a Ninebot should call their local Segway dealer first.
