bpthomas Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Trying to throw this tire back on and I can't get it over the rim. What the heck am I doing wrong? This tension is insane I don't know how they make it look so easy in the videos on YouTube. Quote
Popular Post Punxatawneyjoe Posted November 26 Popular Post Posted November 26 (edited) You need to ensure that all of the bead is inside the drop center of the rim and with these rims sometimes both beads. If you have a few quick grip clamps maybe squeeze the tire up closer to where you are prying it. You can also use some dish soap and water, you don't need a ton of soap either just enough to make it slippery. you should also be prying it closer to where it's on the rim. Take little bites , slide your tool under the bead. Also on closer examination, the width if the pry bar you are using is also hindering any extra you may have, hold it in place with something thinner. Edited November 26 by Punxatawneyjoe 5 2 Quote
HΞNRiK Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Do you have an inner tube? If so you only want to pump it up ever so slightly just to let it seat nicely inside the wheel without any folds or risk of getting stuck between rim and wire-bead. Maybe let some air out? 1 Quote
lu2x Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Don't do it dry. Both sides of the tire and the rim should be coated with soapy water. Quote
Funky Posted November 26 Posted November 26 (edited) Soapy water - you can mount M/C tires by hand. (Soap the tire bead all around.) First time i tried doing it dry - it was nightmare even with TOOLS... Also put the bead in said drop center. The bead you are putting on right now - other side bead needs to be in the drop center.. (You have it already mounted like.. Not in the drop center.) Edited November 26 by Funky Quote

A drop center is present in most rims but may not be as pronounced in a tube style rim. Were you able to get the tire on? Quote
Funky Posted December 2 Posted December 2 (edited) If there is no tube - simply BRUTE force it over the rim.. Get those rim protection plastics - and then use proper tire tools to mount it over. Edited December 2 by Funky Quote
Punxatawneyjoe Posted December 2 Posted December 2 There's always this method, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWd5vwUeYno 1 Quote
