BKW Posted October 17 Posted October 17 As far as I know, both the Veteran Sherman Max and the OG Commander have 3600Wh for their batteries. However, last night I did 9 hours on my newly acquired OG Comannder and had FAR less miles compared to my Veteran Sherman Max. For example, I can ride 12+ hrs on the Sherman Max, but I was barely able to squeak out 9 hrs last night on the OG Commander. I find this strange because both have the same everything, except the OG Commander has a 3000W motor vs the Sherman Max's 2800 motor, but still the difference is huge. I didn't gauge the exact miles, etc., because I just assumed they'd be similar, but the differences seem drastic. I'll have to ride the OG Commander more to get more info later. Anyway, I have pictures of both the two EUCs' battery packs (pics below): SHERMAN MAX: COMMANDER: The main differences is that the Sherman Max has 2424P configuration, while the OG Commander have 24S2P configuration. Also, why does one battery pack read 20Ah/1728Wh and the other says 10Ah/864Wh? Given this information, does it make any sense to you why I have such a seemingly drastic difference in mileage between the two EUCs? When I rode my Commander Pro the difference between the Sherman Max and the Commander Pro weren't that far off from each other, but the difference between the OG Commander and the Sherman Max seems far off from each other. Any idea why? Quote

No. 3600Wh are 3600Wh. In fact the OG Commander is known for above average range for the 3600Wh wheels. Maybe your tire pressure is really low on the Commander? Does your Commander charger charge it to a good voltage? What is the max voltage you can get on it? Not sure what is going on with the battery pack stickers. They seem to use 3.6V for a cell voltage (which is actually fine) but both wheels are 8p altogether. Maybe something custom is going on, they used to have 50.4V packs in series to make 100.8V for some wheels. Doesn't really matter though. Edited October 17 by meepmeepmayer Quote
Bizra6ot Posted October 17 Posted October 17 You can't make a fair comparison based on riding time you need at least the distance and avg speed However it's possible that the minimum voltage isn't identical, if the Shermax goes down to 2.9v/3V(~70V) and the Commander 3.25V(~78V) the difference could be significant roughly ~20% Quote
BKW Posted October 17 Author Posted October 17 These are good points. I'll have to take note of everything these next few days and I'll get back with you guys, because something seems off. Quote

Were you giving a hypothetical with the Shermax going down to 70V and the Commander to 78V? Or are these well known? Either way, I'll try to research the answer myself, because 20%+ difference seems pretty close to what I'm seeing so far Quote
Skampster Posted October 18 Posted October 18 Who’s to say that the two wheels efficiency are the same? Quote
BKW Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 So, I did a couple more 9-hour rides since my last post. The mileage I'm getting on the Commander, when comparing it to the Sherman Max, looks to be as good or better now. There are a few reasons I can think of that might have caused the decrease in mileage on the first ride (just assumptions): The weather was pretty cold at around 40°F for most of the night. I was in a different city (Brooklyn), which is known for more spread-out areas between deliveries (Uber, DoorDash, etc.). More range riding. I was riding fast on some occasions and had a couple of longer rides, but it was not too far off from what I typically do. This one is a big assumption, but the wheel might have been sitting and not ridden much by the previous owner because it only had roughly 2.2K miles on it since 2022. Just a dumb guess, but perhaps if it was sitting, even if I charged it to full from its state when I got it, that might have made it discharge quicker because the battery was sitting for a while. When I recharged it from 18% that night, the next day I took it out, and the mileage looked good. The voltage looks good. I haven't looked at it at full charge yet, but I was very close to full charge, and it read 100.20 while still charging. Tonight was hovering around 50°F for most of the night. I rode it for 9.5 hours, and according to Darknessbot, I did 67.1 miles with 40% battery left! The night before that—the night after the fast discharge night—I also did 9 hours, and according to Darknessbot, the volts were around 99.69 when I started (very close to 100%). After 9 hours on a 50°F night, I did 74 miles with 40% left on the battery. Compare those great distances to the first night I rode it, and after 9 hours at 40°F, I had 18% battery left. I'm almost certain the battery was full when I took it out, so I'm not really sure what is up with that. With my Sherman Max, I always looked at the mileage on the screen of the wheel, so I can't compare the Darknessbot mileage between the Commander and the Sherman Max. However, based on what I see from the Sherman Max screen mileage and what I see from Darknessbot with the OG Commander, the Commander might actually be getting better mileage than the Sherman in my 2nd and 3rd runs, which makes a little more sense because I literally have over 20K miles ridden with the Sherman Max batteries, and this Commander only has roughly 2.2K miles on its battery.
