You need to have passed a 'cycling proficiency test', which most of us take when we are 9, which is a one-time thing, and then that's all you have to worry about forever to be allowed full access to all our roads except the very biggest ones !

Well for us here. You don't need to pass anything, if you don't ride on streets.. (If you wanna ride on streets - you need to take "real test" know all road signs, etc..) If you got a driving license, you don't need to take it.

I see two classes of EUC's - the big monsters and slower commuters. One needs to be written up. Other no. Bicycle & Car.

Let's be real here. A wheel that goes max 15-25mph will never be riding on streets and no need to have a license. But all new models that go 40+mph needs to be written up and have papers. (I get you need more speed, for more safety margin so on.. But what limits you - to not go full out max speed? Police, etc doesn't know what speeds you are riding where/when.)

As for cars it's easy to find out. Because written up information.  EUC - ghost rider.

Over here we can apparently play with the big boys after 1 hours instruction on a Saturday morning !

Aren't that the truth. :D - Because no real rules/laws made and rider information taken, euc written up... We can do what we want. :whistling:

If you live in a city where there are lots of EUCers, maybe. In my town I am the only one, and therefore would be painfully easy to find again ! I would have no issue taking a test though, if it would mean I could use the roads. But I think our numbers are still too way too small for authorities to consider adding our vehicle class to the existing legal framework, other than taking the nice easy, lazy step of adding us to a largely arbitrary banned list.

The cycling proficiency test is very optional. There's no legal requirement to take it.

I rode my KS16S on the roads. It has a max speed of 24mph (I think). I would of been happy continuing with it but traffic in London is too aggressive and I needed a faster wheel.

[bicycles]can go VERY fast on the downhills and when powered. Why can't we have parity with those in terms of where they can be ridden, and how much tax is necessary ?!

ebikes can only provide assisted power up to 15mph in the UK. Those ebikes that have throttles or that speed along at 30mph are just as illegal as we are.

get PLI (which should be available!)

If we needed PLI (insurance) then could the insurance provide a stick on badge for proof of insurance? Maybe the colour changes each year to make it easy to spot that it's current and maybe with 2 words printed on it (a bit like what 3 words) would make it easier to remember than a string of random letters and numbers. The cost of the insurance could depend on whether you have a drivers (or motorbike) license, cycling proficiency or whether you're just winging it.

But if no-one in the city knows you (your name, your address, etc..) Police can't find you. Only way to catch you is while you are riding. :D

Yeah our numbers are very small. In my city alone there's about ~10 scooters for every 1 euc. I have seen only 4 in my city. (2 out of those 4 are my family.)

In big-big city there's a rental scooter sitting on each house corner. So there's about ~50 scooters to 1 euc. :D
