I lost confidence in my Monster V3 100V 1845Wh unicycle :-(

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I lost confidence in my Monster V3 100V 1845Wh unicycle :-(:

It dropped me some time ago at 38 km/h on a paved, straight stretch while cruising comfortably.
It felt like it just went off.
It has just 425 KM on the clock.
After switching it on again, it behaves absolutely normal!
Even after opening, no abnormalities were discovered. Only that the thinner cables between the 3 battery blocks are not all connected to each other?!
Is that correct or do the XT30 belong plug connected ???

This is the latest data recorded with Darknessbot:

Thank you in advance and have a safe trip!

I don't have any experience with the monster. I just have some questions.

Was it very cold?

Did you recently calibrate the wheel?

Did you look carefully for moisture inside the wheel/charge port?

Is the control board bolted down?

If it has a heatsink going into the wheel well, check for contamination around it.

Do you have any problems charging to 100%? Is it the same as when it was new? Charging times etc?

I don't have any experience with the monster. I just have some questions.
- Nevertheless thanks for the help!

Was it very cold?
- Temperatures were ideal: (20°C/68°F)

Did you recently calibrate the wheel?
- No, I'm afraid the last calibration was 400 km ago when it was still fresh :-)

Did you look carefully for moisture inside the wheel/charge port?
- The Monster is a fair-weather bike ;-). In difficult conditions, a KS16 is used.

Is the control board bolted down?
- Good idea: Just checked = is firmly screwed and does not move (Oh man - I hope for such a clear cause - then the failure would have a comprehensible reason)

If it has a heatsink going into the wheel well, check for contamination around it.
- Absolutely clean (board temperature was <40°C on failure - see DarknessBot log)

Do you have any problems charging to 100%? Is it the same as when it was new? Charging times etc?
- Often it has not yet been loaded and not explicitly observed. Is 100 percent after loading.

Many thanks for the support!

Here are a few pictures with the XT30 connection not connected.
There is also no connection on the other side. So currently only 1 battery pack is connected to the charging port??? - The three battery packs are of course still connected in parallel via the power connection ???
I can't imagine that both connections were separated in the fall.
So I'm not sure if that's intentional?!

xt30 is the charge connector and it's not normal that it was unplugged but it's not the reason for your issue. Any problems while charging ? did you charge to 100% last time ? what's the voltage at the end ?

btw it's a strange situation, a faulty board usually die in the first 150-200km not after 450km.

do some stress test in a safe environment if you can, in any case it's better to swap the board for safety

Fair weather still can cause moisture inside. Maybe there's a gaping hole behind the board or something. One puddle later and some of it is on the board.

Also gotway shells are famous for having a gap between the sides. That's a big possible entry point.
