Any way to quickly asses a user's level of experience or seniority in the community is good. I know all the old users on the forum by name or profile image... Or from the personal signature that appears under all posts from users with it enabled. The number of posts a user has made is still visible to me along with "location" and "EUC" information. However it appears the amount of "hearts/likes" a user has accumulated has disappeared. This i considered useful information as i measured it against total posts to get an idea of the general "value" of a post from said user. It may sound strange i understand.. Not all users post with the same frequency but even so i have gotten some really good advise and help here from users with relatively few posts. Personally i don't post often or many posts but when i do i try to post something of substance and quality and take my time to construct my posts and even read them through a couple of times and correct them or make them even longer or go into even greater detail. But in the same way that i make a few long posts there are users with opposite conduct meaning that there are users who prefer to post a lot of messages who only ever post walls of text occasionally. These users can have as good or even greater quality to their posts, or they just end up helping out more people and i think representing that somewhere is useful. Especially for new users having this information at a glance is great... Kinda reminds me youtube removed likes... why? I want MORE ways to determine quality at a glance so i don't waste my time watching ( in the case reading ) something... Thankfully there is a browser extension for getting the dislikes back for youtube. Well i want my "hearts" back ... Also i wouldn't mind some kind of opposite type of metric. It doesn't have to be named "dislikes"... Maybe "disagrees" or just "broken hearts"? Some users on this forum are just not worth listening to. I'm only talking about a very small number of users most of who quickly get banned or leave, but being able to spot these trolls because of users giving them a disproportionate amount of "broken hearts" is great. Kind of defeats the point, especially since there's already different reputation systems in place. from before based on likes, which now seems broken. They just aren't displayed, but you can see them on the user profile. I'm sure they can be displayed again. I guess we should bring them back in the old form? The "rookie" etc. are related to the all new achievement badges, so everyone starts as a "newbie" (or what it is called). These achievement badges can be customized, removed entirely, or kept in the default state they are in now. Howd they know? silly achievement points... I also miss the dislike count on YT, as I used it as a metric of validity (loosely). Not that we need dislikes here, but the like vs post count is a form of useable information imho. I mean wtf am I paying all these people to like my posts for? I think reputation is good for infrequent visitors so they have some clue as to a poster's reliability–solid reputation coupled with a history of contributions should indicate a source that deserves a careful read. Knowing someone is a true newbie gives one a lot of leeway in my book, asking questions we all know the answers for, making outlandish statements... I'll look the other way or try to assist because it wasn't that long ago that I was in those same shoes. Downvoting is a double edged sword that I sometimes (very infrequently) wish was an option, but am in a way glad it's not available. That might come from my brainstorming days, when it was tough to get everyone to participate because there was genuine fear of a public smackdown. Even though there are posters that I choose to ignore, giving them a bunch of -1s runs the risk of removing their voices from the discussion on a fairly lasting basis. So far I think the mods have done a stellar job letting discussions run until they really needed to be stopped... leaving that to the mob generally doesn't work. As to more granular likes, I appreciate some posts that I don't "like". When someone gets themselves hurt or has a reason to retire from riding, I'd like to be able to say "with 'ya bud" without saying I "like" their situation. Same with folks reporting wheel problems—I never like to hear about them but really really appreciate that they're being shared. I also don't like "liking" a post that correctly corrects me... I wish there was a cool way to say "thank you, I was incorrect". Maybe a "thank you" button! At any rate, I think the mods and owner have done a bang up job with this board. It's really nice to have contact with a global community, I've never had that before and it's very eye opening. The tone of the whole thing has remained surprisingly respectful and pleasant and safe for work—my hat is off to y'all. It's a thankless job, but thank you. Upon reflection it's probably a bad idea. However more ways to react other than likes is probably the solution. I agree with Tawpie. The mods are doing amazing and this whole forum is indeed very respectful and pleasant. I also greatly enjoy the just how global this forum is! But yes, as a "shy" newby such a achievement system could be a positive amplification. Popular Post The Fat Unicyclist Posted January 7, 2022 Popular Post Share Posted January 7, 2022 I appreciate that a lot of us just don't like change, but in this case I think it is valid... an automated system based on "participation" doesn't consider the value of the content - which I believe is important for this forum. Things change in people's lives and sometimes they are more active than others - for me, right now, I have a lot going on (more on that later), which means I visit a bit less, and mainly only post when it is warranted - like now. But, I would like to think that my "experience" is (occasionally) somewhat useful to someone - but might my comments be discounted if I am not overly-active? If we had to choose, I would prefer to stay with reps. If we can have both, then it would be interesting to see how the two systems compare after a few months. If "likes" are more granular (like FB) then that would be handy too... It would be much easier to laugh at @ShanesPlanet instead of just liking him too much!
