Chrissi Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 @The Fat Unicyclist and I were chatting and I joked about carving an EUC towed by a car. 15 year old me would have done it and god only knows if I'd still be alive! Which raised the question... What would your 15 year old fearless/ stupid self have done on an EUC? 2 Quote
Lex Smith Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 I was a wimp at 15. At age 16 I decided not to be a wimp 😀 2 Quote

Popular Post RockyTop Posted October 29, 2021 Popular Post Posted October 29, 2021 When I was 15 I crossed this trestle on a dirt bike at 50-60mph. It is 310+ feet off the ground. I know that because I also repelled of the center of it and had to buy a 320 foot rope to do it. The rope was still about 10 feet to short. I had to drop the last 10 feet. If I remember correctly it is about .75 miles across. I don’t think it could be done on an EUC. The wooden ties are about 14 inches apart with open air between them. It was an extremely rough ride at slow speeds. It smoothed out above 45mph. I say this to explain that there is no telling what I would have done with an EUC at 15 years old. 9 Quote
RockyTop Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 (edited) The steel part of the bridge is about 12 -14 feet tall. You can climb down between the rails an stand on top of the columns. You could even set up a tent down there. The center of the columns are hollow, so watch out for that. If I was told correctly someone covered the holes (several 5 foot square) with plywood once and left it. Years later the wood rotted and someone fell through. I don’t know if it was true or just a warning of what could happen. I never saw the holes covered. Edited October 29, 2021 by RockyTop Quote

If you took a tumble, there is a distinct possibility either you or your EUC would fall between the ties. But who wants to live forever? More important to get the video! 3 Quote
RockyTop Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Just now, GothamMike said: If you took a tumble, there is a distinct possibility either you or your EUC would fall between the ties. But who wants to live forever? More important to get the video! Not really, I think it was more likely to trip on the rail and go over the side. If you fall on your face you cover several ties. You almost have to work at falling between them. It was 1985. No videos. I was described to police as a 20 year old with a red jacket. I was wearing a jean jacket with a green helmet on a red Honda CR250. 3 Quote

It was not about being 15 again ... or knowing what I would have done ... just that I was glad I did not have an EUC when I was young because I would have killed myself on it! 3 Quote
Popular Post Tawpie Posted October 29, 2021 Popular Post Posted October 29, 2021 (edited) I'd have certainly tried the same foolishness I am just starting to attempt now—riding technical trails... we were trying to ride 10 speeds on logs in the storm gullies when I was 12. But I wouldn't have waited and taken the time to let myself get progressively better, it would have been straight onto the crazy stuff. I likely would have survived because speed is so low, but doubt I'd have had access to a working wheel for very long. I would however, probably have killed myself with speed. Going all out down a hill on a racing bike in traffic (cars are great windbreaks) was a hella good time—got stopped one time by an officer of the law who claimed I was going 41 mph. No helmet of course, jeans for knee protection, t-shirt to keep the upper body safe. There's a reason we never had a motorbike in the house. Edited October 29, 2021 by Tawpie 7 Quote
Paul A Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 What happens if a train comes along? In both directions at the same time..... Quote

The track turns to the left. You really can’t see if a train is coming. You do have a half mile warning. To answer your question, if two trains are coming, Stop over one of the pillars, toss your bike over the side and drop down below the tracks. I have spent most of the day and half of the night below the tracks as trains pass overhead. It was a daredevil party spot. There is a lot of space down there. The train is 6-8 feet above head level when standing up. I did meet one train while walking across once. You just switch tracks and keep your face covered as the train goes by so they can’t identify you in the Polaroid. 5 Quote
Paul A Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Sounds like Stand by Me....... That was a single track bridge though. 2 Quote
Popular Post RockyTop Posted October 29, 2021 Popular Post Posted October 29, 2021 I would not have done it but…… The far side of the picture is near a housing subdivision with lots of snitches. The near side is out in the middle of nowhere. To get from the far side to the near without taking the trestle would take about 45 minutes in a car then 2 hour of advanced dirt bike riding. Many have tried and few every made it. You had to cross threw a gorge with steep climbs and loose rocks. It took everything I had. By the time I made it it was late and I was beat and hungry with nothing to drink. I knew I was not going to make it back that night unless I crossed the trestle. So I did and then had to run from the nosey subdivision people. WE, …… yep .. my brother and I …. fellow criminals in the great trestle crossing of 85”, we had a friend a few miles away on that side. We stashed out bikes at my friends house and came back the next day to get our truck and trailer still on the other side and then the bikes. If you are keeping up. My brother had a yellow YZ with white and blue clothes. So the COPs were lost looking for a 20 YO guy in a red jacket The trestle is near Toccoa GA 5 Quote
