This is a unicycle forum. I consider you post misplaced.

Personally i find the self balancing 'scooters' or 'hoverboards' with 2 wheels to be a waste of money for the following reasons:

- the wheels are too small; curbs, dents, rough terrain, all problematic
- often the two-wheelers are forbidden, where one wheelers are allowed
- it may be nice to play with by children on a playground ... for a little while

If you have money to burn ... go ahead. You will enjoy it for a while, I suppose, but it only is a toy. The EUC on the other hand is a viable transportation device.

Hi, newbie here.

To be honest, the balancing scooter is cool but i know it easily blows up fire, so do you guys know how to choose a safe one?

These days i've noticed a site on my FB and i am thinking of buying one from them.

Hi,

I am pretty familiar with these products and I feel like they are all of the same. Companies such as iohawk or phunkee duck are charging a premium because they were one of the few companies to sell this product. Most of the companies sell identical products and just re-brand the product with their logo. There are also many models to consider. There is a website called http://www.hov-board.com/ where you can learn more about these products. I would recommend to check them out. They dont sell them directly, but they do offer information.

First, the sense of balance. Balance of the car is by highly sensitive gyroscope to maintain balance, if the balance is controlled by your own good, you'll simply fall.

Second, take a look before buying accessories. See generally, there are no guide wheel accessories, and so there is no lever. This requires attention.

Third, the balance of the car endurance. Does not determine the length of life of the mass balance of the car, their quality is the same, just to see what your needs are.

Fourth, the maximum speed. The balance of the scooter is definitely one to control the speed, so safety first.

Safety is a lot more than just fire (which is down mostly to unscrupulous suppliers using poor batteries and/or chargers) The steering mechanism of Hoverboards is fundamentally flawed for outdoors use. They are fine on dance floors and perfect flat surfaces. This video shows the problem well and, although comparing a Hoverboard to a Ninebot Mini, an electric unicycle would compare even more favourably against a Hoverboard.

In the UK we have already had one young lad killed by a Hoverboard, he was riding on the footpath but an uneven paving stone threw him sideways under a bus.

So, it all depends what you want a Hoverboard for? Dancing great, actually getting from A to B, a Ninebot mini or good quality electric unicycle much better and much safer choice. Even if you want to do stunts in the local skate park the EUC is the much cooler option :-)

You need to read some reviews before you buy a hoverboard, like you would before purchasing any product. Know what you want. Most boards come with 6.5 inch wheels, but that size wheel is really only great for smooth surfaces. If you want to ride around outdoors a lot go with a 10 inch wheel board. Make sure that the battery is made by Samsung or LG, those are the most reliable brands. If you end up with a cheaper brand you could potentially have  a fire hazard on your hands. You can pull apart your hoverboard and examine the batteries when you get it, just requires taking out about 16 screws. This is a good way to double check that your board is safe. Here's a step by step approach to make sure your hoverboard is safe

if you're looking to get a hoverboard / segboard I can vouch for www.uksegboards.co.uk as I've brought one from them before, they actually cared about my simple questions regarding the safety, the Samsung batteries, general faults and after care to make sure it arrived on time.

there's so many fake websites out there so watch out for the cheaper brands as mentioned in the link posted above.. You don't want a 200pound toy to burn your house down!

hope you decide for the best anyway, its all a bit of fun at the end of the day!
