charger question?

is it normal for a 84.2 volt 2.5 amp charger for a KS18XL to get pretty hot while charging? I assume it is normal. it is the one that came in the box with the wheel. ordered from ewheels btw. surprised tho some people told me it would come with a 1.5 amp charger but it came with a 2.5 amp charger which is nice.

it should be warm. Those dont have fans and rely on heat sinks. It shouldnt be too hot to touch, nor even remotely close to, too hot for plastic. 2.5amps at 84v is gna generate some heat. I put some little rubber feet on mine to allow air under it a little more, but thats just me being bored. The ewheels charger is my goto, it has a fan. Stock charger is more than adequate tho, no worries.  Congrats on a great wheel!

thanks man it wasn't that hot. well it was hot but I could hold it in my hand pretty comfortably and definitely not hot enough to melt plastic. wheel showed up with 13 % battery so I'm gonna wait for it to charge. I also heard people say when you first get your wheel you should let it go all the way to 100% to let it balance the batteries before you ride it so I'm gonna let it do that.

No problem. Itll definitely get warm if its charging from 13%. Fully charge it and as its charging, toy with an app. Itll let you connect while charging as it turns itself into an 'awake' state. You can see the level % of charge from the app as it charges also. Reported voltage isnt always precise, so don't fret if it isnt exactly what you expect, when its done. I let mine go a little after the light turns green, but I'm fairly certain the bulk (if not all) of charging and balancing is done before the light goes green. Iirc, my ewheels charger shows its not pushing ANY voltage once the wheel goes fully back to sleep.
