celi
So I geared up, ready to ride, but ... Wilma died! Shes only 2.5 months old, guys. Couple days back I couldn't get the kingsong app to work unless I did the firmware update. Except it wouldn't load past 3% so no firmware update. Now Wilma won't turn on, poor thing. I think it's app related. Anyone feeling my pain?

mrelwood
I don’t know how exactly KS handles interrupted fw upgrades nowadays, but sounds like that’s probably your issue. Some dealers won’t actually even help because the firmware upgrade is not part of the purchase you made from them. Or at least that’s how they try to shake any responsibility. Can you connect to the wheel with any app (KS, DarknessBot or EUC World) while it’s charging? If you can, you could try finishing the firmware upgrade process that way. Especially EUCw seems to be good with interrupted upgrades. Good luck!
AtlasP
Just seconding mrelwood's comment, this definitely sounds like an interrupted firmware update. It'll seem bricked but can actually be resurrected with a proper re-flash of the firmware.

Sadly Euc world said firmware update failed and wheel log couldn't get me ahead either. Gotta keep searching...unless smart wheel helps me out... An aliexpress shop? Did you check your serial number if it is a wheel dedicated fir the chinese market (afair they have a P in the serial number)? Then firmware updates, etc are not possible ...
Popular Post The Brahan Seer
I had a Firmware update stall at 1-3% and wouldn't complete so I switched off the EUC. When I switched it back on it gave a long beep but wouldn't work. Using the Kingsong app it showed Firmware 1.0 (i was on 2.06), I proceeded to installing the new firmware again (2.07) which this time completed and everything works as before. This was on an S-18 though.

Paul A
Have never updated firmware. Is it essential?
mrelwood
Just now, Paul A said: Have never updated firmware. Is it essential? No, it isn’t. But every now and then the upgrades bring valuable improvements, such as the 2.0 firmware making the dreadful KingSong whine completely silent, after two freakin’ years of buzzing in my ears! The KS 2.0 firmware also rides much nicer, and makes the wheel feel more powerful, inspiring confidence, especially on roots and steep inclines.

This should increase chances you won't start a topic like this - Seba enhanced afaik essentially the update procedure to keep the wheel in sane conditions "about anytime"! Maybe same is true with darknessbot, too?
Paul A
Thanks Chriull. Have EUC world installed and use it all the time. Problem is, in the settings for wheel, for firmware update, it is stating "Error while checking for firmware updates". Am youtubing to try and figure out what to do. I assume the phone running euc world has internet access? The normal cause - kingsong servers in china not reachable is not valid with euc world, as seba mirrors the firmware in poland. And you have no chinese wheel with a P in the serial number? If so there should not much you can do - maybe best to send an error report via euc world, then seba gets all the necessary details to help you! Paul A
Phone has internet access. Not a Chinese wheel with P in serial number. _ _ _ _ _ Hi, EUC world version 2.6.4 Built 03:53 16.06.2021 Think maybe phone is too old. Android version 5.1. Might have to get a new phone and try again. Thanks for the reply.

Android 5 doesn't support currently used security protocols, so this may prevent EUC World from checking/downloading firmware images.

DavidB
Did the update stop the Kingsong whine on your wheel? I just watched Reccio test his preproduction wheel in Spain and was amazed at how quiet it was. Virtually completely silent except for tire noise. It astounded me that a company like KS which touts itself as the quality EUC brand did not sort this out years ago.
Paul A
Never noticed any whine in previous or updated firmware. Not really sure if there is any difference at all.

FWs before ver 2.0 on the older wheels like 18(X)L and 16S didn’t seemingly have any output wave smoothing, so the rectangular waveform caused the wheels to have a very loud whine. It completely disappeared the second you installed FW 2.0, and the wheel that had whined for years on you was suddenly perfectly silent. If was a truly freaky feeling.
Paul A
Tried to check the firmware version with the EUC world app, and now the new phone can't even pair BT with the wheel. Very strange. Luckily, can still use the old phone and EUC world to connect.

They did about 2 years ago with firmware 2.0 for ks 18 xl and the 16/14s released in january 2020. Since then no ks wheel whined anymore - just if it was not updated or older than the 14/16S series.
