apeekachu Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 After seeing it for the first time at a kiosk in the mall, I won a used e+ on EBay for $600. It was described as barely used and in new condition but when I got it, I was disappointed it was cosmetically beaten up with part of the padding gone (though the padding was described by the seller). I got it the 2nd week of December and immediately got onto it outside of my apartment door (carpeted area) and it took off part of the paint on the wall immediately so I brought it back into my place and put on the training wheels that it came with and took it back outside. I'd say I spent about 45 mins going back and forth on my block and had such a hard time turning. As I reached a decent speed (about 6-8mph) it would tilt back and I couldn't figure out why. At this point I thought I had wasted my money on buying this thing but before I gave up, I started looking through the forums. I guess it would've helped if it came with a manual. I didn't realize there was a ninebot app, so I downloaded that, my main concern was actually trying to figure out if this was an e or e+. I opened up the battery cover and it was labeled 320WH so I was convinced it was the e+. Connected to the app, it showed only 11 miles of run time so I guess it was pretty new. It sat against my wall for the next 3 weeks until I decided to try it again on Jan. 8th. I read in the forums that you won't get better with the training wheels, I also read that some people use grocery carts as a guide to practice. I took off the training wheels and was going to head over to my local Target store. I walked outside of my apartment door and decided to get on it and I was able to get to the other end of the building of approximately 40 feet. I was stoked, so I kept on going back and forth and started making turns. At this point I had to take it outside for more riding room. It was night and day from the first time I rode it. The training wheels definitely limited me from being able to turn but I credit them with helping me get the feel of the forward/back motion and balance. I still couldn't figure out the tilt back when I reached a certain speed so I logged into the app and realized there was a set speed limit. It was set at 8 and I upped it to 10mph. At this point I rode it almost 5 miles in distance but the tilt was bothering me because I thought the e+ could reach speeds of 18mph. I then realized the speed was actually locked at a max of 10mph and when I unlocked it, it was already midnight so I put it to rest and was looking fwd to the next day. I don't even care about the cosmetics AT ALL anymore. Day 2 - I left work early just to get home to my Ninebot. I had clocked in about 5 miles and 40 mins from the night before and was ready for more. I was so excited to show my roommate I was able to ride, she came outside with me and the results were not like the night before. My legs were shaky and I had a hard time getting on it but eventually she saw me on my way. Definitely an attention getter and while I was riding at a decent speed of 10mph the tilt back seem to be more frequent as I had to slow down for it to reposture. I don't get this still, is it because the battery was low, it was around 30% when I noticed the frequent tilt back and it was annoying. I did about 5 miles this evening until I charged it for the first time. Day 3 - Next day off a full charge I was trying to push it up to 18mph. The max I could get it was about 15.3mph for a quick second. Now I was doubting if I had an e or e+. Here's an excerpt from howwerollwheels.com "The ninebot one e+ is reaching mileage of 18+ (tested with a 185lb rider which is slightly heavier than I am). Now I'm thinking that they're talking about distance and not speed because when I was on my way home from Starbucks, I tried to push it to 18+ mph, I leaned forward as much as possible and the ninebot stopped and I went flying forward, venti hot mocha for my girlfriend in hand. Surprisingly at 12-15 mph, I was lucky, just a injured left palm and road rash mainly to my right elbow and the mocha all over the intersection. I rode back to Starbucks with my empty cup and they were great to make me a new one while I was demonstrating the ninebot for customers in the parking lot. Day 4 - It was about 50% and I tried to charge it and it went from red to green maybe in an hour's time but as I was looking at the app, it actually didn't charge at all. I still got to put some mileage on it but the tilt back is annoying. At this point, I've put on about 28 miles of riding. Questions and concerns: 1) Is the tilt related to the charge or are there other settings I can play with? 2) What is the 0-9 ride setting? Mine has always been set at 0. 3) Battery was at 19% and fully charged slightly less than 2 hours. Thought it should at least take 3-4 hours. 4) Is there any way I can confirm that I do have an e+? I'm still suspect.
Jag_Rip Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Hi @apeekachu welcome to the forums. Just to answer quick, these Questions have been asked in this forum already, check out the Ninebot section for more info: 1: Tilt is related to a setting in the Ninebot app and the model you got. I dont recall the actual name of the setting, but you can limit the Bot to go only up to 8mph for beginners. 2: Ride setting is 0 hardest and 9 softest, its how far the pedals tilt with you when you lean in to brake or accelerate, setting 0 keeps the pedals always parallel to the ground. Most of us ride on the lower end, so 0-3 3: 2 hours for a non-full charge sounds about OK. 4: When you open the side with the battery in it, there should be a sticker on the inside stating what model you have, next would be the Wh on the battery a E+ has a 320Wh capacity. Last resort would be to contact Ninebot and ask what model your serial-no. is. Edit: What firmware version are you on? You can check that in the ninebot app as well.
dpong Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 As a 170 lb rider, the fastest I have ever pushed my E+ is 15mph which you have to admit is pretty darned fast. I recommend stop trying to push for 18mph as you will continue to harm yourself. I suggest working on control, turning, and smoothness. But of course that is all up to you. Congratulations on your purchase and progress!
apeekachu Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 Advice well taken and I'll work on my overall skills maneuvering tighter turns and more crowded areas as I want to eventually use it for commuting to and from the office in San Francisco's financial district. I still have trouble getting on and off and my shins feel like they're bruised. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and will likely attempt to design and dress it up with vinyl wrap. Cheers!
apeekachu Posted January 23, 2016 Author Posted January 23, 2016 Today was testing the range on a full charge. I was trying to keep it between 8-10mph for the most part and results are very impressive per picture. There were times I just had to floor it whether to pass or to show off to the onlookers the giddy up on this thing. Note this was nearly consistent riding with not more than 5 dismount. The low battery warning came in two phases. It initially showed 0 miles, then as the warning stopped, it increased to 2 miles. It did it again and the last one was uncontrollable beeping and did everything it could to shake/vibrate me off. The other night it provided 4 low battery warnings before the final shake off. I love this thing, I've nearly clocked 60 miles in distance since really learning how to ride it 2 weeks ago. My feet are sore, feels like I just did a full day of snowboarding.
McDude Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 apeekachu Thats awesome to hear your story of learning to ride. I just got a a IPS LHOTZ and have had similar experience, having to ditch the training wheels, and trying to push the speed getting launched with road rash on my right elbow and left hand. I had to laugh at that. I have taken my through SF and it has really done well going through the hills in Hayes valley area. I know there are much steeper hills such as russian hill, pac heights area. Have you tried any of those? I would be curious to know how these things perform on steep hills. Also i am a pretty big guy too, 6-3 230... and mine has taken me up and down with very little issue. It is definitely a head turner when you blow by people struggling to walk up hills. I have also had mine down a lot on the embarcadero area later at night and its a lot of fun riding through SF.

Was it the Santa Rosa or Fairfield Mall that you saw them at the Kiosk?
apeekachu Posted February 12, 2016 Author Posted February 12, 2016 @BotCali I saw it at the Fairfield Mall. I believe they are representives from forwardca.com. Seen some ads on Craigslists that they're selling the brand new E+ for $699 + tax. On 2/11/2016 at 11:28 AM, NevNutz said: @apeekachu @McDude You guys should join us on a group ride sometime. I was bummed out i couldn't make it to your Saturday Superbowl meet up. Unfortunately I don't have FB but would love to meet up very soon. Thanks!
OVERBOOSTN Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I'm still watching youtube videos on how to learn how to ride the one.
