I had already done one (on which only me can write now for announcements). You're right. However from experience wheels have good waterproofing, I've used them daily for commuting for 3 years now, no matter the weather. Other things like electric skateboards have a lot more problems with rain as the electronics are close to the group and probably not that well protected as they are on unicycles (which are usually 20-30cm away from the ground).
