After the fury and rabies of my S18 debacle...

Recommended Posts

Calming my thirst of revenge on the miserable S18 debacle I took my KS 16X for another ride today.

I f yesterday I was wearing down my fury running 36kms, today I wore it down on a shorter and faster ride of only 21kms. But with an average riding speed above the 20km/h mark and a top speed of 40km/h.

I broke two personal barriers do compensate the new, the damned, the lemmon, the broken S18 mess...

Felt gooooooooood!!!!

There is nothing like getting some good wheel time to calm the mind. You can literally ride away from your troubles!  :efee8319ab:

Too bad about the S18. I'd have a hard time trusting that wheel even if you get an entirely new S18. Any thoughts about going back to the V11? It was reliable for you and you get the suspension.

Bought 4th batch s18. Zero issues and rode like a dream. Stupid me pinched two tubes installing a pirelli angel tire tho, so it's down until new tubes show. Ordered 3 just incase lol. But on the same note as you, I'm back on the 16x and loving the torque

@Dreygun there's something about the 16x that just won't leave us. 1st love and that's it!!!

How the heck did you pinch two tubes?

I just got back from a 16X ride and was thinking the same thought. It's big enough. It's small enough. It's stable enough. It's maneuverable enough. Great speed based multi-stage headlight. One of the best torque wheels going ... until we find if the V12 is hiding anything there. I could go on ....   :eff034a94a:

We don't have too many long stretches in town, so it's up and down side streets/  stop and go at lights so 16x is perfect. S18 definitely helped my knees on 100km+ weekend riding (multiple charges) tho. If s18 had 16x torque/ acceleration, it would be my perfect in town wheel

I didn't have enough time and experience to find out about the difference between the two. I only rode 14kms before it went bust, and it was already doing tilt back when I went over 10km/h.

But I'm hoping it has enough torque to make interesting, because that was what I didn't like on the V12... No exciting torque...

I wouldn’t want to shoot down your hopes, but the feeling of torque comes from geometry. 18” wheels have the acceleration of an 18” wheel, no way around that. The firmwares feel a bit different, and some manufacturers’ FW can feel slightly more peppy to some riders, but it’s a small consolation compared to the tire diameter.

16x3” wheels are in their own group, just like smaller 16x2.125” wheels are in theirs’. No 18” wheel will ever be as peppy as a 16x3” one.

@mrelwood that's what I was starting to suspect. However due to the small body size of the s18 (it's almost the size of the 16x) I did sense, even with the initial tilt back speed limitation, that it was much closer the 16x than the v11, when it came to nervousness and response.

Well it a bit sad to see how people are let down from time to time on these EUCs. It happens on all brands so not really a need to point fingers at something specific.

Now if you are happy with the KS16X I thing tbat is all fine. I sold mine off last week. I realised the V11 would be a very hard wheel for me to leave. So to minimise downtime for repairs/waiting for spare parts or changes to winter or summer season I figured it is better for me to have 2x V11.

Most times I will argue to have more wheels is mainly to have different options for different needs. But for now I found the big cousin to the KS16X fall on the V11 and I would pick that any day because I view this as an all rounder wheel only missing out if you are in need of a small light wheel. It is mot that it is huge, it just isn't small.

Now for the S18, I have not ridden it. But the battery config just make me avoid it. The open design might look great to some, to me it just spells trouble.

Now the KS16X is a nice wheel in many aspects but I ride just a little faster and the suspension of the V11 has saved me on close calls where I got cought by suprise.

I hope you find a solution that works for you @Paulo Mesquita

If you can I suggest meeting up with other riders once the covid-19 situation allows it. That is a good way to get an idea of other wheels how they feel. But remember sometimes you have to grow into a wheel. Most will not find a wheel natural if you change sizes. That goes both for bigger or smaller to what you are used to.

I wonder which pedal response settings you were using on the S18 and the V11? Some say that the pedal height of the V11 does play into it, but I haven’t personally felt how.

The S18 has three riding modes, soft, medium and hard. The V11 has two separate response curves as well as a sensitivity slider from 0 (soft) to 100 (hard). To compare the wheels’ responses in detail one would have to dvelve into the response settings a bit deeper. The response curves on the V11 also changed a lot in the latest firmware update, making it much easier for me at least to find a setting that accelerates with ease and still feels solid enough.

I chinês I didn't explore the mist aggressive ride mode of the V11. With the S18, to avoid the same mistake, I immediately chose the most aggressive ride mode. And I was enjoying the ride write nicely. At least for 14kms....🤣🤣🤣🤣
