Popular Post Seba Posted April 16, 2021 Popular Post Share Posted April 16, 2021 My Dears, it was brought to my attention yesterday that there have been quite a few negative reviews of the EUC World app on Google Play. I'll honestly admit that I haven't taken the time to follow these reviews until now. Recently, not counting professional work and family, the remaining time I devote largely to the development of the EUC World project. This means not only preparing a new release of the application, but also a lot of changes on the EUC World website. I am convinced that you will be very pleased with what I am preparing for you. But let me get back to the point. Looking through the negative feedback I found many comments, which make me very sad because they are more or less unfair. I am accused of not answering emails. Well... I always try to answer as soon as possible. Sometimes it takes a dozen or so hours - the time difference between Poland and the US means that when someone writes an email I'm just going to bed. When I get up in the morning I often don't have time to sit at the computer because I have to rush to work. Sometimes I answer after many days because of business or family trips. It may also happen that I do not answer because... the email does not reach me, or gets lost in spam. However, these are incidental cases. I would very much like users to remember that EUC World is not a corporation, but a non-commercial and hobby project created and maintained by one man only. Luckily, on the forum and on Facebook there is a group of kind people who try to help me by answering various questions. Thank you for that! This is the power of community support! Some of the negative feedback is due to the introduction of the need to register an EUC World account. In the beginning, when the application was very simple, having an account was not necessary. It was only used to be able to register routes on the EUC World server. Over time, the application was expanded to include more features that require access to the server. Saving CSV logs, updating firmware in King Song wheels or premium features are just some examples. As more features requiring communication with the EUC World server were added to the app, more and more of my time had to be spent explaining to users that they need to log into their account. At some point, it got to the point where I was spending more time on user support than on development work, answering the same questions over and over again. Particularly common questions were: - "I made a donation, but AVAS still doesn't work". The answer was always the same: - "Make sure you are logged into your EUC World account. Without this, the app does not know what your account status is. Turn on the app, open the menu..." etc. This is why I did something that is normal in any other application that more or less uses online services. Since using the app requires you to have an EUC World account, all problems have disappeared. Unfortunately, the change that helped to solve a lot of problems and introduce new features was not liked by some people... Other negative opinions are simply hurtful and I will not refer to them. Some people are just demanding and want to get everything for free, without giving anything in return. Some people tend to blame others for their own mistakes and negligence. I know that the vast majority of users love EUC World and use the app every day. I see it in your posts, I see it in emails you send me. This is the reason why I do not lose motivation to work and I try to develop EUC World with even more commitment. Soon I will tell you what news I am preparing for you I also know that there is a small group of people who, for various reasons, seek to discredit the EUC World project Please, don't let their voice be stronger than yours. Only then it will be meaningful and reliable. I know that EUC World isn't perfect. No app is. I don't have issues that others are reporting. As a developer, I know the amount of work that goes into a project like this and I am amazed at what you have done. Oddly enough, it shows on my account but it isnt visible with the reviews that you see listed. I dont know what google is doing, but I think you are only seeing a few of them. I shouldnt be 'banned', as we all know how wonderful I always am. Seems like most of the negativity/complaints are from simple user error. Don't fret Seba, I'd imagine the vast majority of your userbase is not disappointed. Bad news for you, with 700 days of premium left, you'll be fu**ing with my user errors for the next 2 years. I don’t use EUC World app because I have an iPhone. But I definitely appreciate the work you put in for the EUC community. I also read a bunch of the poor reviews - how can people blame the developer for their own inability to properly configure and use the app?! The hole haters motivation and what drives them. I just don't get it. That the only purpose is to put others down and cause missing around them. Now with that said what I really do not understand that we other do not speak up more. Let me give you an example. I am not a fan at all of high speed riding in public traffic and pedestrian areas. My opinion is that in public space we need to interact so all can be there. It us not a private back yard where one can do as one want when ever you want. I understand not all share this view. But that destructive behavior and that not more speak up is very difficult for me to come go terms with. Now it I am using a program/app and I don't like it J uninstall it and find something else. Even if I paid for it that is my practice. It becomes more of a problem if you have a brand depending function. But for an app like EUC.WORLD developed by 1 person and you get to use it for free (for most functions). This is very simple to me. Use or don't, none force you to do either way. If you don't like it just move on. Very simple. Those who do like it great. For those that has constructive contribution even better. This is very simple. You don't waste your time or energy and you will be happier in the long run. Really you will. For those that do not understand this, please let the community pull together and show the support for a great job 1 person do and that isn't a commercial app. Okey we are a few that has been granted the opportunity to help out with beta testing and translations and trying to assist people with their questions so it can free up time for the creator to do great things. I really hope you get to look at this as the classic 80-20 rule. 20% will take up 80% if your time with their problems. Let's focus on the 80% that need less maintenance to be happy. They are your supporters but might be so loud. The loud negative noise makes, no matter what you do will always stay the same. So let just skip these. @Seba you know that we are some that help in any way we can and that support you, THE Seba. Now it might be different in you the reads area. What is up with these one liner question reviews, and 1-star? One reviews had false claim, that locking wheel when it is moving is possible. Name rings a bell.. Claire Chambers. Remember her? She has now moved up, hellbent for revenge, on what again? The app is in currently 4.2 standing. As long time user I do hope others who use it review it. Thank you Seba for the app! Literally the only suggestion i have to improve the app is somehow having the 80% gotway beeps as an option one can enable in the alarms tab instead of alarms only being dependent on speed or voltage. I don't know what this requires or if it will ever be possible but when that it added i will be ecstatic about the app, use it religiously and get lifetime premium. For me 80% beep alarms are the final piece of the puzzle but somehow i'm sure you can surprise me with even more features i would have never been able to think of. When i was first exposed to this app i didn't take too kindly to it but honestly i just needed to spend more time with it to realize its amazing degree of utility. Nowadays it's essential to me and i love it. Thank you @Seba for you monumental effort of making and maintaining this amazing project. Heyzeus Posted April 19, 2021 Share Posted April 19, 2021 (edited) The fact that a passion project like this exists for something that let's be real should exist from the manufacturers by default in a good state not the crappy state it often is, really is icing on the cake and people should consider themselves fortunate enough to have stuff like EUC world and wheel log, If it works they should be like oh wow awesome this actually works and if it doesn't work they should be like "well at least he's trying hopefully a future version will work for me, Glad this exists). People are too entitled It's not like your Microsoft here putting out something that is your main job(or that you're being compensated for in a way that comes close to paying fairly for your time on it) As an aside I don't know if this would cause more issues than resolve(More features to implement / two apps to maintain) but perhaps having a separate EUC world lite app, or a lite mode, that didn't require an account or location permissions for more privacy-minded individuals and only saved a local user profile with alarms / wheel specs but had none of the route tracking and other bells and whistles would be what some people are looking for. For me, wheel log works just fine for that and in the future when I have a newer wheel and want something even more cool with more bells and whistles I'll probably try out EUC world. But I could see some users who want something simple with just speed/current monitoring and more custom alarms being turned off by some other aspects or feeling things are too overcomplicated and they shouldn't have to have an account to do these main features. That said I haven't used the app personally so have no idea if something like this already exists in the app and it's not your job to necessarily implement something like this(lite app/lite mode), this is your project and implementing such might take away from what you enjoy and wish to do with it in terms of direction, if they want something different they are welcome to learn how to code and make it themselves or go use the manufacturer's apps or wheellog Edited April 19, 2021 by Heyzeus 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We really appreciate this app. There are so many features in EUC World so at the time being there is no app that can compete with it. So, if people do not like this, they are free to use another app. Let's try to understand why these people can be unhappy with EUC World. We cannot try to help them if they are just insane. Let's find something on which perhaps we can help them. If people don't know to use EUC World, perhaps we need to have an easy to use documentation. Perhaps there is a room for improvement here. Perhaps it may be a good idea to create a collaborative EUC World user manual. Videos are cool but are not really useful to update them regularly and perhaps it is easier to collaborate on a simple document or wiki or mardown document than a video. This way we can probably produce any version of the user manual (corresponding to each version of EUC World but is there a good reason not using the last version of EUC World ?) Perhaps some people cannot connect their app to their wheel. @Seba have made a video related to this "issue". A user manual can also be a good response. FAQ are also a very good idea (it may be part of the use manual). Perhaps some people don't know that EUC World is not developed by a manufacturer. Nobody is forced to pay for EUC World. It can be consider as just the developer's toy that he wants to share with those who may be interested in it. If they don't want to play with a toy they just have to go away. But, if we would like to be a little bit serious, if other people suggest others to use this app it means that EUC World is not just a crappy you, it is really a good app as every good opensource apps. For those who are not familiar with opensource world, may I give few examples. Few years ago, Linux has been considered as a toy, a not serious operating system. Nowadays, almost all apps you can use on internet run linux as operating system. Many apps that are used for every web site we have on internet are based on software that are, at least in their early days, open source. There is no company behind them. We are happy to be able to use freely these apps but we should also have in mind that other people are working hard to make these apps useful. We can also try to contribute in the way we can to keep this situation going on. Perhaps some of these people don't like the fact they need to pay to have some feature. We can suggest them not to use these features or make a fork of an open source version of EUC World ancestor and add the feature by themselves. Another idea is to ask the manufacturers to implement features they need to add into manufacturers apps. If we contribute to EUC World (in any way), it may be sane to feel that EUC World belongs to us. Here I may be a little bit frustrated since, correct me if I'm wrong @Seba, EUC World is no longer opensource. Anyway, @Seba is still doing a very very good job, he takes into account our suggestions, etc... there is no real alternatives to EUC World. So please, keep working with the same enthusiasm on EUC World @Seba. You have our full support.
