Colestien Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Think about the small town "look". My little town is about one mile by one mile. Small towns have their clicks. I used to work all the time, so no one knew me ....even while living here for years. So I get all the standard looks, like when I'm in the city. I also get a "Don't let him notice us and he will go away" look. Something like what you would give a stray dog.
diggory 456 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 In my experience you also get a huge difference in the level of attention you get if you're making big slalom movements rather than just going straight. You don't have to be slalom-ing 'between' anything, just making large skiing-style left/right movements. People are sort of awed by it because it reinforces the idea of it being 'skiing on tarmac.' Especially if you're good enough to do it whilst really leaning your body into the angles.
DS Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 Skiing-style left/right movements is what exactly I enjoyed in my last, when the weather still allowed it, ride in the park...and also another quite WOW trick: While riding, to turn my head in side direction pretending I'm interested in something while gliding pass it, then stop and go backwards to see it more closely. This trick attracts so much attention, that the people go initially silenced with turned heads expecting what the heck is going to be my next move. I didn't consider myself as someone looking for attention, maybe that was some hidden part of me which was released by EUC rides
THA Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Heh, I started in the 4th biggest city here, got many looks and unknowns commented, all positive, interested, all wondering what's that and how You control it And I just fly by Then I got back to this 2800 people village (768 000 m2), anywhere I stop someone comes to me. They don't always ask, just watch, but f.ex. in grocery shop when carrying EUC all others seem to wait how I get on it and ride - maybe they consider me as "kylähullu" (village maniac?) As an engineer, fact that about everyone knows, they just probably consider my wheel as some futuristic vehicle and me as the mad one who takes the first step
Supersmi Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I had similar reactions. Younger people looking very interested everywhere I go. Older people asking immediately what it was. And same as you: Did you bring your vacuum cleaner :-). That last one didn't come from only one person. But we have to admit....the IPS Zero kind of looks like a vacuum cleaner :-)
Tyred Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Today I heard a new one. An 65-70 (quick guess)-year old guy crossed me in the other direction, looked at me and yelled: "What kind of crap is that?", shook his head and continued along his path. Made me laugh. (In Belgian West-Flemish dialect it was literally: "wa bucht is da")

He was astonished to see me riding uphill and stopped me with decisive hand gesture (like traffic police) and asked: HOW, HOW, HOOOOOW is possible to climb without pedaling anything?
dpong Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Yes, slalom really sells it. Feels good and great exercise too, at least for me it is.

dpong Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 I like to keep the tire pointed down. Not falling is a priority.

Please feel free to give me some pointers, or instruction. How do you start trying this slowly, and step by step? I would like to be able to do it. I just like to stay on top of the wheel with no broken parts.

Simon Lovell Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 When someone shouted Legend in a very loud voice from across the street I obviusly thought that I had become a local legend in my own lifetime!!!..........unfortunatly not though as my son explained to me its just a saying meaning "brilliant" or something like that........I prefer to think I am a legend though.......Lots of smiles though and interest from young professionals both male and female plus the younger kids of course and from some retired guys........All in all a very good respose generally.
WeeJ Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 ha ha J loves riding by people and watching their reactions, though as I don't have a wheel and am usually walking/jogging behind him I get to hear all the conversations and funny comments. Enjoy your wheel!
