Popular Post rexdelmolvo
A few months ago, I was shown something in the EUC discord server. A full-face motorcycle helmet with a striking futuristic design and a rear-view camera & heads-up display. As someone who loves unique gadgets, I was super interested, but put off by the price point: it's around $1900 USD after tax. It's almost impossible to find proper reviews of this thing, it's almost like... no one has bought one? Lately I've been in need of a new helmet, and after finding a storefront that would allow me to return it if I wasn't happy with it, I decided, what the hell, I'll take the plunge. On top of the HUD + camera, it boasts built-in speakers, a touchpad interaction system on the side of the helmet, integrated GPS, and high-vis LED's. I received my helmet today, and after messing with it at home and less than an hour of using it on the road, I'm already certain, this thing is a POS. I charged it up, updated the firmware, and started checking it out. The first thing I noticed is that the fit is bizarre: despite ordering the correct size with exact measurements of my head, it was uncomfortable, tight in some areas and loose in others. It did not fit my head-shape whatsoever, but this might just be a me problem. The other issues are much more egregious. I downloaded the app that connects the X1 to your phone, and connected it via bluetooth to test out the speakers. Good GOD. I haven't heard speakers as bad as the ones in this helmet in over a decade. They sound like gas station $5 earbuds you bought in 2008. The app has an EQ you can mess with, but its an absolute joke. The speakers are so bad you cannot notice any change you make to it. Not only that, but the damn thing can't even hold a connection. Certain gestures on the touchpad buttons would just stop all bluetooth connectivity, forcing you to pull out your phone and reset the connection to get any sound back. I decided that I'd go back to my old riding sound solution (airpods squeezed into the helmet) and that if the rear-view camera was life-changing, I could overlook some shitty speakers. Turns out the X1 gets jealous. It would randomly fight for the connection with my phone over my airpods, music cutting in and out between the two speakers. I don't know what the hell it was trying to do. Once I was actually out riding, and I got it to stop fighting with my airpods, I had another issue: any sort of jostling the helmet felt from regular road conditions resulted in noticeable crackling from the headphones. Completely unacceptable quality for a fucking $2000 helmet But the speakers, as bad as they were, were not the reason I bought this stupid helmet. It's all about that HUD baby. Trying it out in my house, I was actually impressed with the clarity, responsiveness, and the position of the HUD mirror. The image looked great, more than enough to get crucial information in a quick glance. The mirror is positioned just high enough that it doesn't distract you when you're looking at the road, and when looking at the mirror, you don't lose any of your awareness. Prior to actually going outside, I was really pleased with it. In practice, it's awful. I went out during the golden hour, the bright setting sun glaring down on me & my wheel. Once I was on my wheel & moving, the effort it took to focus on my HUD was instantly far too much. The fixture that holds the display element &the mirror was not nearly as sturdy as it needed to be. It jostled around just enough that I could not make out the image properly unless I was on a perfectly flat road. This is partially because of the improper helmet fit I brought up earlier, but I think it would happen to some degree no matter what. On top of that, when the sun was shining in front of me, it's impossible to make out any image. This might be fixed by using their tinted or photochromic visors, but the default visor is clear. Wearing sunglasses in the clear visor also makes the HUD unusable as well. They block a chunk of the image. Overall, while the concept is cool, it's so impractical compared to a tried & true mirror. So yeah. If you're like me, someone with some disposable income that's interested in riding gear with high-tech spins, skip this helmet. Not worth it in the slightest. I'm happy that I can return it, but it leaves me still looking for my next helmet! And honestly, my priority now? I'm looking for helmets that are visually striking. Something that stands out from the standard full-face helmet. Do you guys have any suggestions for new & unique helmets? I haven't been able to find any other full-face helmets that look quite as cool as the Crosshelmet.
Popular Post Bub
I bought a Crosshelmet over a year ago and it's been nothing but trouble. I've gone round and round with them trying to find out why it won't connect to the app and why when it does nothing works. Each time I have to tell them again what is wrong. They finally had me send it back so their tech's could check on it. Once they got it I was contacted to see what the problems were yet again. I was told in June, 2020 it was going final quality checks, that it was working correctly, and they would let me know when it was being shipped back. Well, I never heard from them again but the helmet came back today. It still does not work. I've asked for a refund and been told since they are a new company they don't do refunds. I've asked for an exchange and I get the same defective helmet back. RUN FROM this company. The helmet is terrible and the customer service is even worse. 3
GothamMike
Apple glasses are coming. I hope the Apple folks consult with Darkness Bot. Hand gestures to make choices.
r_713
If you check their website as of today, it is COMPLETELY devoid of any real data/information as to what the helmet actually is/does. It feels like vaporware, they know that it's vaporware, and that they're trying to cash in on their dwindling PR hype as much as possible before being completely debunked. Kind of like a pump & dump.

You got it for $69 dollars? Holy shit, that's crazy if you're not joking. At that price point, maaaaybe it's worth it? It really is a shame how shoddy it is, such a cool idea. And yeah, it's an insane amount of money. Only reason I tried it is because I knew I could return it.

Don't be in awe of people with more money than sense. I typically chalk it up to people either working too much or being overpaid. I must admit tho, after 30+yrs of motorcycle riding, I finally bought a REAL helmet (shoei rf) and I had no idea what I had been missing. An euc is a totally different beast tho, no need for all that jazz. At $70, if they even send you a box with a trashcan in it, you're not doing too badly.. Yeah, that was a jab at all you rich folks. Of course just affording an euc kinda makes us all rich. I know, my jealousy is showing... Edited August 27, 2021 by ShanesPlanet
gunnar-sweden
Could be they tried too hard. But the opportunity window to sell this at 2000 dollars will be thin. It's low hanging fruit for volume manufacturers to begin cranking out such helmets. Make a standardised HUD, put in a mass volume camera and you're done at 1000 dollars. I remember the Reevu MSX1 with the mirror solution. Worked pretty well, no electronics. Best thing was you could see if there was a police vehicle behind, or a large bus to avoid braking. Nickoz
This company is pure fraud. I placed an order in may 2021 and we are not at the end of January 2022, I have not received anything and they refuse to refund for products they have not shipped. Beware. They are scamming
Nickoz
Now in July 2022. The visors have still not arrived (promised via email to be shipped in May 2022), software update is a total joke. A version for MacOS and a different one for PC. Neither can be installed! A total scam. Avoid them.
MCJ
My issue is their customer service. It's all started when I needed to return my helmet due to the usb port malfunctioning. It cost me a pretty penny to ship it back to crosshelmet due to it being past the warranty period. I had been in constant contact with them through email. They told me the usb repair would be $200 usd and I had to pay through wire transfer to their bank in Japan. They told me their engineers were able to fix the helmet. Once I paid the $200 they stopped responding to my emails. It has been over a week now with no response and total $245 including bank fees. I've sent email after email and even through their Instagram account I sent a message. I noticed someone read my message but just ignored my messages. I'm going to contact my bank and see what recourse I have if any. I feel swindled by this company If anyone has had this happen please let me know what you did if anything to resolve this dilemma.
Ren
Good I saw this before I paid! can anyone recommend the lightest helmet that provides wide views? My neck hurts from heavy helmets and can’t turn too much so it obstructs my view. Any recommendations?

JohnQP777
Well, at least you got yours. I ordered one and I'm still waiting - been almost 3 years. I just sent them an e-mail giving them a deadline and if they can't make it I want a refund. But, by the sound of it from Nickoz I may not get a refund.
