dangasaur Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Got the wheel a day early and by the time I got it set up it was nearly dark. I went up to the middle school track for a nervous first outing. First outing was a serious workout, absolutely drenched in sweat. My daughter was kind enough to take a video of me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3PK4by04C4 When I went out again tonight I corrected the tire pressure from day 1 (way too low, didn't realize it was that bad) and was able to ride around the full track without stopping or crashing. 3 Quote
Tawpie Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 I like your camera operator. And I do remember how that was... ain't it crazy how a night's sleep does miracles? Doing great (in case nobody else has told you so)! Quote

Wow, she really is adorable in how she’s rooting for you, all the time! 😍 Also, you are doing really well! Just like with a bicycle, a little more speed and you are already doing it! 2 Quote
jase Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Nice. You're picking it up fast. I've had my first one (S18) about a week and just tonight went that far. 1 Quote
dangasaur Posted April 3, 2021 Author Posted April 3, 2021 My 2nd push off tonight got me two laps around the track. Felt really good tonight. Only issues were sore arches and ankles but my shoes are crap. Going to try my boots or get some high top sneakers tomorrow. Quote
tch_popeye Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 That's a wonderful little cheering section you have behind the camera. Quote

Line the heal of your foot with the back of the pedals. Your toe will be hanging over the front of the pedal with the ball of your foot on the pedal. This will reduce the pressure on your feet. 2 Quote
PRIMETIMEDAWG EUC Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 I just received my Clark Pads and Inmotion Honeycomb pedals. The pedals helped my foot issue a bit, but the Clark Pads help a lot. I don't need to press as hard leaning forward on the balls of my feet now. So, I would consider power pads and the Honeycomb pedals. I think the Powerpads by Inmotion would also be good choice as well. Quote
dangasaur Posted April 18, 2021 Author Posted April 18, 2021 Quick update, five days after the video in the first post was taken I rode 10 miles. I'm getting in at least one 5 mile ride a day now. I've had to up my speed warning to 25mph which has gotten pretty comfortable. Now I'm experimenting with pedal position, @pixelmajicis right in that when my feet are farther forward they don't hurt as much on a longer ride. The style I'm most comfortable with now is right foot (dominant) pretty centered and left foot forward a good 1.5 inches off the front of the pedal. I also want to try the two pedal "hardness" settings, still have only ridden in comfort. 1 Quote
tch_popeye Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 I'm moving along at a similar pace, dangasaur. At 25 km/hr (the highest without toggling the warning switch in the app), it's spooky how comfortable that has gotten during my nightly "patrol" of the neighbourhood. It's really easy for me to get complacent with the speed, even though I'm now well past my ability to run off from a mistake without doing a faceplant. I wear the wrist guards and helmet every time, and also a kind-of-tough-material jacket I don't care about so much. Any faster, and I'll be looking for knee and elbow pads. Quote

Now that my wife has seen how fast I go she's insisting I add elbow pads and some kind of better chest protection. I've looked at kevlar lined hoodies but I may try to pick up some kind of tough wind breaker with some light padding. My wrist guards are the triple 8s and I'm also looking at upgrading those already... Quote
