Raz's Monster Pro battery fire

Recommended Posts

It's always sad to see these things light up. The battery's in my RS don't look any different wrap wise than any other gotway, and gotway has been good too me over the last 2yrs. I'm hoping my house doesn't catch fire in the middle of the night!

It's too bad the evidence always burns up so we never really know. When this happened to a few V10s it came down to keeping the moisture out and better casings.

Would it be a good idea to add one more wrap to the batteries in our wheels, more goop where the cables come out too? It's not like there is much room to add very much to the existing packs.

... but despite all its design rigor, the community declared it to have terrible reliability :(:(

An explanation was offered: metal debris inside the shell dislodged by (riding) causing shorting of the control board. Sounded plausible, anyway.

where did this explanation come from? there were no debris as I had open the wheel up prior to this and did not see anything unusual.

It was just more internet speculation; but an important possibility to keep in mind. All it would take is one loose wire cutting, screw, washer, or metal shaving (from the heatsink) to bridge exposed connections on the board and get things started...

p.s.- love your content @Hsiang. Holding a DSLR on a pole to take selfie video (instead of an action cam) to tighten depth of field... dedication! :D

As discussed below, bags & mats would be useful for picking up a burning battery in order to 'throw it outside'... but if you're not home, non-rigid insulating devices are unlikely to help :(

Uh the other post made it sound like this was the reason not just speculation and if Hsiang didn't correct you, some would of  taken that as fact!

There too many armchair specialists here and not enough actual specialists. Where the mechanical, electrical engineers, mechanics etc to give us some insight not just some average Joe who can google and has read a few buzz feed posts that just have a elementary understanding.

Educate yourself, and have healthy amount of doubt in everything and everyone.

It still surprises me how much people blindly / lazily believe what they hear on YouTube from "experts" / "veterans". YouTube just means they have a camera and know a little bit about how to edit, that is all.

But I smile at the camera; isn't that enough to believe everything I say? LOL =D

the more I thought about these cascade of issues the more I am turned off by the monster pro, issues with ride control and firmware are minor but if its a fire risk then there's no way I am getting it.

Thank you! try adding a 2lbs gimbal to the formula, I am not sure if is dedication or insanity! LOL
