RetroThruster
I love ebikes, wish I had never sold mine... I totally broke the law yesterday and rode my Sur Ron to my mother-n-laws house, 6 miles each way on backroads, not sure if I could pass it off as a bicycle or not since it has no pedals, thankfully had no issues and was quite fun! I've had some tough falls on EUCs , some muscle and joint associated issues between the kneecaps and ankles so an eBike should work for me as a substitute, plus two visits to the hospital ER (once - broken shoulder on Ninebot (sort of an euc cutout) and another for serious facial cuts (go full face helmets) after night riding into an unseen bump. Riding an euc near traffic has and continues to be an aggravating issue with horn honks, shouts from passengers and close calls from drivers 'not able to see me' on the EUC.☠️😟 Locally drivers are exquisitely sensitive about what they see ahead of them on the road. Last week while riding the well lit eBike from RadPower (in the shoulder) yet another driver, several feet away, decided to use their horn to announce their presence while moving at 30+ mph. ☠️ I've ridden euc's for thousands of miles but riding backwards is a goal I'm likely not ever going to try because it's too hard to accomplish for someone with lower back issues.😒 Time for the sit down, pedal assist or throttle only eBike experience.😁 The exercise is needed for this type 2 diabetic. I think using the Parkour style of falling with intent is mostly hype. Falls happen so quickly sometimes. Despite rolling off relatively unscathed recently after hitting a fist sized rock, the Monster broke a pedal and the concept of falling to the ground from a moving EUC is no longer 'appropriate' for a 67 years old rider.🤫😟 Edited November 28, 2020 by Bob Eisenman
RetroThruster
That was a nice ride there, good fun for sure. I remember when I bought my Trek e mtn bike, I hadn't ridden in a few years but was able to ride over 20 miles in the woods on my first ride, I was crippled afterwards but still, it was great fun. My buddy that I ride with is pretty much a pro rider and he has a few ebikes primarily to keep himself from overtraining, I think they're a win win but most of the mtn bike community here isn't as fond of them as I am, their loss... There are lots of neat bikes out there for urban commuting and recreational riding, I'm tempted to get one, I've ridden my friends e-road bike (28mph assist) and it was really fun. I've seen that video on making the Sur Ron street legal, under moped laws. I really had aspirations to do that but the range just isn't there, if I lived in a congested area it would work, but everyone around drives like speed demons so to keep from getting run over, I have to run at almost max speed which would yield about 20 miles and at 40-45mph, the fun is over pretty quick. I may end up with a Zero, had an Alta and sold it, it was brutally powerful up to 80mph:) My other buddy and I went on a nice off road ride yesterday on the Sur Rons, they are amazingly capable off road, got 19 miles in the woods with lots of gnarly hill climbs and fast single track, had 34% remaining battery at the end of the ride so not bad, I'm 200 lbs. Oh, I have little to no desire to learn to ride backwards, all I would do is scratch up my wheel and bang myself up, after major shoulder surgery 2 yrs ago, it's not worth the risk. From what I learned on YouTube the 72 volt $2100 extended range Sur Ron battery goes 35 miles at 40-45 with a max of 60ish with 28% battery left I decided to try an old 4.5 mile rail trail leading into a rolling hills gated hunting zone (Martin Burns Wildlife Management area) . (1 year ago) It was a little mucky on the normally dry rail trail (H2O over the rim while walking on the land above a puddle where the wheels were), passed two hunters, a ranger in a vehicle (maybe a hunter) and went the rest of the way home (26 miles) on roads and low pedal assist. The wide eBike tires handled it well. Water rinse after at the car wash. Nothing like a rinse to clean it up. Alaska John puts his (recent) money (deposit) on the Honda 125. 100 mpg, no clutch (syncromesh), top speed 65 mph. The air intake snorkel goes up to the rack behind the seat. RetroThruster
Looks like a fun ride, no dirt roads around here to ride on but looks fun for sure! We have some forest roads like that not too far away but they're mostly gravel, nothing I'd like to ride on on an EUC, tarmac for me on an EUC except maybe for some grass. Yeah, Jack Cecil has a super moto Sur Ron that'll run like 85mph or so, he's a stud, I like the Litespeed batteries and the BAC8000 but that's a lot of jingle to throw at a Sur Ron, fun stuff though. I have an Africa Twin and a Monkey 125, I worked for Honda for years and still spend a lot time at my Local dealer, I like the Trail 125 but people are paying stupid money for them, I like the new ADV 150 Scooter too, I rode one recently and it was super smooth, just down on power a little but I did like it. There's a bunch of Honda 125 reviews on YouTube. One set of mods by someone posting a video gave a $7000 final cost for the Honda 125 (with mods). A junior high school friend (late 1960s) took up motorbike riding years ago. He recently moved (semi retired) from CT to North Carolina and wrote about riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway. My family left CT for MA back in 1969 but we kept in touch. Since the photo was taken a year or so ago I started (and he as well?) a medication called a 'statin'. This last summer I started having serious (temporary) issues while riding (esp. after mounting) 😟 while taking the statin The friend wrote recently .... I wouldn't want the statin associated problems while riding a motor bike! Ebikes with step through frames make life with old legs easier. 🤭😁
