Is is time that Trump got himself some 'big boy' pants?

The bigger picture and the comparison to social media are comparing apples and oranges in my opinion.  Social media has pretty narrow restrictions, it is hard to get banned.

Facebook users (and other social media) are prone to depression and mental health issues. We had forums back in the 1990's and no one seemed even vaguely depressed or angry, so Facebook and its ilk are different. I think it's because Facebook, probably by design, does better by showing advertising to depressed people who think they can buy something in order to feel happy.

This is a guess, because I used Facebook for only one day in order to register my Tinder account, but social media people I've interacted with in real life are always depressed.

Hence, politically active people on Facebook or Twitter are mentally ill, and not by a little either. A lot. Without exception. Nuttier than a fruitcake. 80% of people don't actually care about politics, and rightfully so.

Enjoy politics, but this uncouth and inappropriate post-election meltdown by people is silly and embarrassing (despite my personal enjoyment of watching adults throw temper tantrums).

Yes!  Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube all generate revenue the more you click.  AI feeds you links to generate more interaction be it positive or negative interaction; All so they can feed you adds while doing it to monetize off the Chaos:blink1:

@LanghamP I've read through your response 3 times and don't see the point you are making. Are just asking me a bunch of questions or do you have an opinion on any of those?

Are you trying to encourage discrimination in this country?

Are you trying to encourage division?

The answers to your questions is.

Yes. No. Maybe. It depends.

You’re calling all American politicians corrupt sellouts but that’s simply not true. Yes most of them are, here it is a corporate oligarchy unfortunately, but those on the progressive side like AOC aren’t. Bernie Sanders is one of the most popular politicians in the country and has never been bought out by any lobbyist or wall st concern. Of course the establishment couldn’t tolerate him becoming president and put a stop to that.

Not all, but most are corrupt. Here we agree.

The funniest part is that we don't agree at all on who is a sellout. :-D And I doubt we'll convince each other either.
AOC has a lot of insane propositions (ex. Green New Deal). As for Bernie, his extreme wealth tax is just insane.
He probably was never bought... Although his endorsement of Hilary Clinton after the primaries were stolen from him was spineless. :(
I get it, he has good intentions. Probably not corrupt, just with socialist propositions.

The First Amendment is irrelevant of course. It applies to government, while contract law applies for these platforms. If you want the First Amendment to apply, first those companies would have to be nationalized. Or the government would have to start its own social media network.

I obviously agree with you - a private platform can institute whatever rules it wants. I'm pro free-market in that aspect.
It does not change the fact that with every ban Twitter and FB are deepening the left-right divide. That is my main point when talking about Twitter.

Studies have shown bans actually do work, like when reddit banned a bunch of toxic subs in 2015. Slippery slope arguments are simply a logical fallacy.

To be clear, from a macro perspective, Reddit's actions likely did not make the internet safer of less hateful.
Even the authors of the study agree that my conclusion is likely to be true. Amidst recent bans Gab.com is getting 10k users per hour.

As you can see, people are massively flocking to alternative social media.

What do you think is the reaction to a banned conspiracy theory subreddit? Because I'm sure for lots of dwellers it's: The authorities don't want us to talk about it, it's probably true!

You’re overly concerned with debt and inflation and whatnot which I would attribute to your unfortunate libertarian Ron Paul readings. I suggest you read up on Modern Monetary Theory, maybe one of Stephanie Kelton’s books. Quantitative easing under Obama was basically a form of MMT. It does not and will not cause inflation, if properly implemented.

The way I see it, they are doing a giant, unprecedented experiment on the biggest economy on the planet. I hope for the sake of most people it works. I'll be cautious and I'll keep anti-inflation assets in my portfolio, just to be safe.

One thing is worrying however - I see how quickly the rich are getting richer when compared to the middle-class, and it worries me greatly. After all, pretty much all of FED's printing goes to the top 1%.

Poland seems to be in the midst of something similar to or even worse than Trumpism here in the US, and I sincerely hope you guys can find your way out of that dark road.

No, it's not even close. Trump was a celebrity, he had a character. People bought MAGA hats and dressed in American flags.
In Poland nobody cares about our current party and president. He's a figurehead and everybody knows it.

I'm far closer to libertarian than right wing. B) I don't think that there are any right-wingers here, considering that I'm almost the only one providing arguments for that side.

You need to distinguish between "off-the-shelf" products and "custom" products.
I'm a programmer. An analogy in that case would be if someone came and asked me to write spyware, to which I'm morally opposed.
It's essentially the same thing, just different industries. Both are custom products that the business has to tailor to the client.

The owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop offered to sell them an "off-the-shelf" cake for their wedding, and so I have zero objections to him. He just didn't want to make the custom cake.

Also, please don't forget about an inverse case of William Jack vs Azucar Bakery where a fundamental Christian was trying to get an inscribed cake and was forbidden.
Thankfully, the courts sided with bakeries in both cases.

Regarding the "left infiltrated social media", this can be directly compared to similar situations the right is pushing to allow businesses to not serve those they don't want to (ie gay wedding cakes). This is a direct throw back to the 50's and 60's segregation. So, to hear any right wing snowflake complain about censorship just reminds me that Trump is a gay wedding cake in the argument.

I'm a free market capitalist, I fully support the right for CNN to be biased and for Twitter to ban people.
My point isn't about them being "wrong" for banning people, I'm pointing out that they are making the left-right divide worse. Thus, they are partially responsible for the echo-chambers. And they have full right to create them.

Facebook recently censored Ron Paul. Do you think it will encourage libertarians to join conversation on FB, or force them to other platforms?

It only makes sense if you have someone on social media (private companies) telling lies and motivating people to commit treason, then they should be cut off. If the laws in the land will not or cannot do it, then it is up to us as individuals and private parties to handle the matters.

That's the crux of our philosophical disagreement. :D

I subscribe to:

  • Light is the best disinfectant
  • Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never break me
  • I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it

Can you please provide some examples of Ron Paul motivating people to commit treason? And where is the rule against "telling lies" in Twitter's or FB's TOS?
Or what lies did Thunderf00t spread in this video?

6.01.2021 - Facebook bans Trump
11.01.2021 - Facebook has no plans to lift the ban
16.01.2021 - Facebook unbans Trump

I'd wager this has something to do with the recent stock prices of Facebook and Twitter. :D

On related note, the influx of users to Signal is so high they struggle to keep up. I myself got 10 people to install it. B)

Big tech companies gave a great New Year's present to alt-tech this year.

I was surprised to see how heavily armed these insurrectionists were. I do not think the Capitol cops would have fared well at all because they were outnumbered and outgunned, and maybe that's why the cops were doing their best huggy bear impression instead of opening fire.
