I got an survey email from 'Canon USA Research' yesterday. The one question survey (yes/no) asked if I was aware of the 'Canon EOS Webcam Utility' which allows selected Canon cameras to be used as a webcam.

So...I watched the instructional video on the Canon Webcam utility download page and then downloaded/installed the zip file for Windows.

A search on YouTube for videos about the Canon Webcam Utility led me to this video.

The presenter used the streaming software OBS (open broadcaster software) which I installed too.

OBS can be used to stream the Canon EOS camera as a webcam to social media like Facebook Live. The thought came to mind that I could use the webcam capture utility with my telescope to record a full moon live stream which I did last night.

After configuring OBS software on my laptop to recognize the Canon EOS Webcam Utility I was ready to record video with my Canon camera and OBS software.

To stream the video capture to Facebook live I followed the directions at this link, pasting the Facebook provided stream code into the OBS setup.

My full moon live stream was started after configuring OBS, clicking start streaming on OBS and then clucking start live stream on Facebook.

After Facebook live had ended I found a that my audio had a looping issue in playback of the recorded stream. A quick query of OBS help database indicated I was not the only user to experience the looping audio issue. Since a few second lag existed between stream upload time and Facebook playback time (in another Facebook window on the same laptop) , I'd guess the looping audio is either a simultaneous upload and playback issue when using the same capture/playback device or an OBS audio settings issue.

Other than the looping audio (@ 06:10 & 14:45) issue (laptop mic as audio source)
