New EUC addict from Philly area, Great experience with Eric plam.

Hey EUC fanatics,

I wanted to do a quick post about my experience of buying my wheel on this forum.

I turned 42 on April 7th this year and around that time was when I first found out about EUCs.  My wife and I had recently got into riding electric scooters while our kids are on their regular bikes or scooters in the local parks, bike trails, etc.  While searching for a faster more reliable scooter for myself, I stumbled on the eWheels site and was blown away by these peculiar looking machines that they were selling.  Well, most of you know how it goes from there... It's a slippery slope filled with instagram and youtube, from interest in EUCs to a total obsession (my EUC obsession is only rivaled by my vintage watch obsession, and wife is not thrilled about either).

Since scouring various watch related forums had helped me in the past with learning about and collecting vintage watches, I automatically started looking for a EUC forum and found this place.  As we all were in the beginning stages of the COVID19 pandemic, budgeting took on a new shape and I had to be careful how much I could spend and justify to my better half.  I started looking for my first wheel...

A used V5 was for sale from a forum member,  @Eric plam and I decided to go for it.  Negotiated an OK price and made the deal.  When the wheel came, I was like a giddy little girl on a Christmas morning.  I took it out right away to my driveway and proceeded to the beginning steps of learning as I've seen on various YouTube videos.  About 20 minutes into it, the wheel crapped out and stopped working.  I went though troubleshooting and asked for help from people on the forum.  Had no luck reviving the wheel.  I contacted @Eric plam to tell him what happened.  Without a second of hesitation, he had a return label sent to me and was ready to provide me with a full refund ( I believe Eric since has found the issue to be a burned out connector).  Now, I was buying a beat up wheel, it was as described.  It worked when I pulled it out of the box and @Eric plam not once tried to blame me for it or argue about anything concerning the transaction.  I sent back the wheel, and agreed with Eric, that once he gets it he will refund me.  UPS took almost two weeks instead of four days to deliver the package.  In that time, I bought a refurbished Ninebot One E+ and started learning.  Learning to ride and doing more reading and watching about EUCs. 

I knew when I was getting the Ninebot that it is not my true first wheel, I was getting it primarily to see if I had it in me to learn how to ride and that I was on the search for my true first wheel.  While tracking the UPS package and corresponding back and forth with Eric, he had helped me a lot in understanding how the wheel works and what I needed to do to get better in riding it.  To make an already long story shorter, I ended up selling the Ninebot after I could ride it around my neighborhood, then ended up buying a used V8F with less then 100 miles on it from Eric.  The wheel came a few days ago and although I have to relearn how to ride again, since it is sooooo different from the E+, it is an awesome wheel, that I am absolutely in love with.

I believe @Eric plam has a few more wheels that he is selling on this forum and I wanted to tell fellow members that he is a stand up guy, and it is safe to deal with him.  I am still blown away regarding the way he has treated me.  Something that I will never forget.  Thank you Eric.

It's a bizarre experience going from a "learner" wheel to a "real" wheel and feeling like you need to relearn.  I don't regret starting on a cheap wheel to convince myself to spend a LOT more on a "real" wheel, but I wonder how different my experience would be if I just learned on the big wheel from the start.  Either way, it didn't take long to get better at the big wheel than the small wheel, it just feels like I'm not as good because I'm nowhere near its limits.  I just have to remind myself that going 18mph on the Nik is still like 50% faster than the E+ top speed even though it's like 50% lower than the Nik's.  lol

Glad you're having fun with the hobby and had such a great experience with buying used.  I'm not that far ahead of you in the hobby and it's humbling to get a shoutout for being helpful already lol.  Pay it forward!  :-D

Caution: Don't consider a V8 a "real" wheel. Just wait till you ride a real real wheel

 Funny how perspectives change. My 16s feels like a kid’s toy now. 
Two years from now people will be saying the same thing about non suspension wheels that only go 50 kp/h

It’s real to me  looking at you guys in all these videos going gazillion miles per hour scares me right now. Then again I never had problems going 100 mph on a motorcycle, so I’m sure I’ll grow into it.

Actually I think this might be realistic. I sure hope so.

Suspension might very well be a game changer, and why have a lower top speed than 50?

It's not about speed, it's about the relentless power delivery and oomph. The V8 feels meek and weak compared to modern high performance wheels or even my old ACM. The "danger" of a V8 is that it's just good enough so you could think that is what electric unicycles have to offer, but a wheel with like a 2000W motor will feel completely differently .

Well, I’m looking forward to starting to ride the V8F and do it for 6-8 months before I get another wheel. I think that’s how long it will take the dust to settle with my wife. This had been so sudden for her lol.

Oh you have a V8F. Not sure how that is, but in the end it's still a small battery wheel with the associated power delivery limitations. Anyways, enjoy!

Shock therapy might be the better option, and then you don't have to wait for so long for a new wheel Just order that MSP (or whatever) right away. If it's suddenly there, it's there
