gon2fast
Good afternoon everyone. I noticed a competitively priced Z10 online and was wondering what the community thought of purchasing such a wheel. I know that there have been reports of bricked Z10s as well as a pretty serious battery draw issue. Thanks everyone!

In addition, considering how the Z10 is practically abandoned the manufacturer themselves, getting spare parts may already be quite difficult. Personally I wouldn't get one, even if I considered the tire behaviour to be safe.

It is true that the support (from the beginning) of Ninebot / Segway has been lacking in support of their consumer-base. This support / interaction has become better over time with some other manufacturers ... But, don't forget that in some parts of Europe the Z10 is still actively promoted and sold, albeit somewhat pricey ... at this moment. You can contact the Segway for support services on the Z10, and go the official way (which can take some time before services get done - parts from China)... Or you can buy spare parts with several shops on Ali / ebay, cheaper / equal waiting times / do-it-yourself, but plenty available ... This will fade over time, as you need to consider: that EUC is a non-mainstream/niche market, so spare parts will only be available as long as there is a sustainable demand (bigger consumer-base /economically sustainable) But this goes for the multitude of manufacturers and models (not limited to Z10). as with most technology, the moment you buy it - its value has dropped significantly, and although it might remain functional its successor will be better / have more / ... the life cycle of any EUC is different (and maybe shorter) against other /or more sustainable transportation vehicles, ... (bicycles, or maybe other PEV, (electric) cars, ...) From my research on EUC's, the perfect EUC (and Services) are yet to be invented ... Although the future looks bright ... And yes, I drive a Ninebot Z10 (pleased and bought yet another one) - so maybe I'm biased Edited April 15, 2020 by Meulebeest

It has been out for almost 2 years but it still takes the cake when it comes to innovation imo. Although it may be attractive when it comes to price one should consider the ~1000Wh battery. It will be 2/3 of an 18XL/16X/MSX/Nikola. The riding feel of the Z10 is similar to the 16X with the CX-321 tyre. If you can find a Z10 from a reputable dealer that can help you with after sales service then I would say it's fine.
Popular Post Planemo
Another thumbs up from me for the Z. Its a brilliant wheel. And yes I'm a bit fed up with people saying how many have bricked without being able to say what percentage of total sales they apply to. And I somewhat discount what any commercial seller says, especially if they are referring to data from early batches. My suspicion is that there are a helluva lot of Zeds out there that have never given a single issue (mine being one of them) but of course you rarely hear about them. And the 'serious' battery draw issue isnt serious at all if you simply take on board that it loses 1% a day and bear it in mind. Its yet another non-issue for me personally. YMMV.

I can also vouch for one of the many Zeds out there that have never given a single issue. I bought mine Brand New in September 2018 from @The Fat Unicyclist and have clocked up around 5500 Km's so far with No Issues! I love the Z10, the way it looks and the way it rides, it's definitely been solid for me! Edited April 14, 2020 by fbhb
gon2fast
Thanks everyone, awesome feedback! Still on the wall, but getting closer to a decision. How many miles per charge can a larger rider like myself (260lbs) expect averaging 16-22mph?
Planemo
About 30 miles I would say but it does depend on so many things other than speed, terrain, rider weight and wind speed. Eg I carve a lot and even that hammers my range!
gon2fast
What is the feedback around braking with the Z10? I know Marty reported an issue a while back, but believe that was under extreme conditions...

At 260 lbs I would go for the MSX, 18XL or Monster. 25 minutes ago, gon2fast said: What is the feedback around braking with the Z10? I would say that braking is underpowered on the Z10. Brake assist makes it easier from a leverage perspective but that also seems to make it over lean backwards easier = buttplant.
Planemo
And then theres people like me who have never had an issue with Z10 braking! I've never used brake assist either. Done a fair few hills and off road mtb trails on the Z as well.

fbhb
53 minutes ago, gon2fast said: What is brake assist? When you lean back to slow the wheel down, the Z senses this action and initiates a 3 dregree (IIRC) rearward tilt to help assist in the braking force applied! It can take a little time to adjust to this sensation at first, but it is a really smooth action that then disappears and you don't even notice it over time (the tilting sensation, that is!).
