I have NO doubts that 99% will realize a garden is HARD WORK and give up and go back to their usual. MAYBE a little respect for our poor farmers will remain, and MAYBE 1% that explore gardening, will keep after it.  Bless the local USA farmer. They are my neighbors and I KNOW they are barely making ends meet and utilizing generations of family land to do so. If the farmers that devote their lives to this AND are using land worth millions (inherited) to do so, the backyard gardener doesnt stand a chance. The farmers get shit on and has for decades. I surely hope this will gain them a little more respect and perhaps a little more a living wage.

This isn't true at all. A small garden is an easy way to secure food.

1. Plant seeds.

2. Water and fertilize them.

3. When the vegetables are almost ripe, shoot the deer with a telescopic rifle.

What could be easier?!

I think that this study is misinterpreted. They stopped measuring after 3 hours, the amount of particles in the aerosol was still noticeable.
So it's safe to assume it's way more than 3h for aerosols.

On a related note, had dryers are inexcusably dirty, and yet I still see them everywhere.

https://health.clevelandclinic.org/the-dirty-truth-about-hand-dryers/

In one study, microbiologists compared jet air dryers to warm air dryers and paper towels. What they found was disturbing:

The jet air dryer dispersed 20 times more virus than the warm air dryer and over 190 times more than paper towels, at six different heights.
The impact of the virus was greatest at 2 ½ feet to 4.1 feet — which is about face-level for a small child.
The jet air dryer sent out 20 times more virus than the warm air dryer and over 190 times more virus han paper towels, at nine different distances

I'm afraid you are right. I just didn't want to exaggerate. For all practical purposes 3h is already bad enough.

Edit: being noticeable is not the same as being infectious.

Great news...

So as an aerosol...does that mean if you're standing near someone, and happen to inhale some of the "air" he just exhaled, you're at risk of being infected?

Yes.

Edit: ... that's the motivation for social/physical distancing.

Crap. So that's worse than what the CDC has been saying until now:

"Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes."

@travsformation Yep, probably just breathing is enough, no need for coughs or sneezes. Otherwise asymptomatic people wouldn't be so infective.

Any exhaled air will have micro droplets of moisture. So this is not anything that is a surprise to me.

They bigger question is air this travel in aircon areas.

True.

From the article: "SARS-CoV-2 remained viable in aerosols throughout the duration of our experiment (3 hours), with a reduction in infectious titer from 10^3.5 to 10^2.7 TCID50 per liter of air." SRAS-CoV-2 does both, aerosol and droplets.

These or similar experiments would have to be conducted in the early stages of the epidemic by every biotechnologically equipped nation. I have no explanation why this has not been communicated at an earlier point in time to the greater public, especially since it conveys the necessity and outcome of physical distancing much better than the general appeal to abstract needs of high risk groups or the elderly. - Well, that and the sheer number of casualties (1% of 65 million is still  650.000 people).

I have noticed that they were taped down and shut off in all public toilets and highway service areas, gasoline stands etc. here in Japan for several weeks now. They are very common here. I wondered why they were all broken suddenly. But reading your post explains everything. Thank you 🙏

Aside from self-isolation, physical distancing has been conducted on the basis that contagion was via respiratory droplets emitted when sneezing, coughing or talking, and which fall to the ground (gravity) in a matter of seconds. The safe distance we've been told to keep from one another is 1 meter. Public transportation (subway, trains, buses) remain operational, AFAIK, in most of Europe, and in Spain, I can confirm it.

Micro-droplets are a whole different story, that would definitely explain to rate it's been spreading at...

"Scientists put coronaviruses through a machine called a nebulizer, transforming them into a mist in an enclosed space. The researchers found that the coronavirus survived in aerosolized particles for at least three hours. Added bonus: they were still able to infect cells and replicate.

Of the original amount of coronavirus sprayed into the mist, half of it remained after roughly one hour. So by the end of the three-hour experiment, roughly one-eighth (or 12.5%) of the initial amount still remained.

In real-life conditions where there’s fresh air or ventilation, any virus in a mist will get diluted pretty quickly. But in theory, if you’re in an elevator or a subway car with limited ventilation, the virus could hang out in the air for a while, Lloyd-Smith said.

He also noted that scientists aren’t sure how much virus it takes for a person to become infected."

I'm astonished at the depth, breadth, and speed of the Coronavirus response. It feels our civilization is truly a global 21st century civilization, because scientific information, disease status, and goods and services move at lightning speed. Even the lack of goods has factories producing those missing goods within 12 hours. Even tampered information (ie Chinese communist party) is quickly self- corrected by skeptics.

I confess looking at dry goods but now that feels...just so stupid. And preppers are just being silly. Our civilization will end, perhaps soon, but its catalyst won't be some minor virus.

Here is a look into the abyss.
WARNING! This is very scary and it shocked me deeply, when I watched it the first time.  I hesitated long before I finally decided to post this here. But I believe, it can safe lives, if we open our eyes to this and act extra, extra careful. Now I understand, why I have to stay at home.
Please do everything you can, to protect yourselves and your families to not get this „minor virus“, please.

Please don’t hate me for bringing these images into this forum, BUT this is what CoViD-19 is.

Only works in rural areas and for those with no regard to hunting seasons. Ironic, the deer and rabbits here, cross thru my yard and stand around close enough to hit with a rock. Of course, come hunting season, or after a few rounds of rifle practice, they won't be seen at all for a few days.  I typically shoot into the air every morn at 3am-5am out here, during hunting season. The deer in my hood, belong to my hood! Hunting out here is asinine as its NOT a sport.  $40k truck, $20k 4 wheeler, $5k rifle.... take yo ass to the store, as $65k buys a lot of food. The hunters are ALWAYS from another neighborhood/state  too. Of course, this is coming from a 'socially immature' person who lives in a socially immature country. I dont think we need fear food shortage much yet in the USA. Now that the panic has filled peoples kitchens, the stores will have time to restock.  Its quite a sight to behold, welfare citizens who never feed their children at home, are NOW finding their way to the grocer and buying food. I wonder if parents are now taking the time to teach their children, as the daycare/schools arent doing it for them currently?

How do you keep deer out? I've had several gardens throughout my life, and not once did it not all get eaten in one day by deer, miserably always in front of me.

I do keep a small compound bow with optical height sights that's dead accurate out to 35 yards. Ludicrously, it has a 70 pound draw. I've had many opportunities to hit deer at extremely close range, but never had the heart to do so.

Everyone should have a children's compound bow with ballistic sights. It requires virtually no skill to be dead accurate out to 35 yards, and it's extremely small.

I use these craaazy sights.

Langham, i have no idea how to keep deer out, I am not a farmer. I also can accept the fact that it takes more knowledge than I have. I'd have to ask around, as I'm sure deer is a problem and SOMEONE out here has figured out how. We feed the wolves/coyotes baby cattle here too. Funny, I trained with a state champ of archery fora  few years. My old compound bow is sitting right behind me. Unlike bullets, I can reuse the arrows. Also much quieter..  My 2 acres are a safe haven for animals. Only when im starving, will they need worry. Just this morn at 5am I got awaken by a herd(?) standing outside my window, snorting as they do for hours. Bad thing is when they hang out too long, the ticks seems to stay behind and find my legs. Now THIS was a thread hijack. Quick, someone come in and remind me of how much worse americans are than everyone else, so we can get back on topic.

So much for trying to protect myself from CV-19. Even though my facility has been screening parents and their children before they enter an exam room I was coughed on twice today.

Yes the parent apologized profusely for not covering their child's mouth in time but unfortunately the atomized respiratory droplets had already sprayed me.

The child did not demonstrate any of the CV-19 symptoms other than an infrequent cough but I was a bit startled by the episode.

@Rehab1,two physicians at my local college tested positive for CV-19. That was today. These two saw an enormous number of patients, and now things are getting messy.

I take people serious. Reading this really hurts. Please enjoy, if you must. If laughing about me makes you happy, be my guest. 😔

Can anyone of our Spanish member confirm the post I found below.
@ShanesPlanet.  Can this be true or are we baited. You are the specialist.

Since you can't really isolate yourself, wear any protection you can. From what I've heard the initial viral load has a huge impact on the severity, and so covering your mouth even with a scarf will probably help somewhat.
