"Disclaimer: ONE X 2 is NEVER a confirmation - I believe this is a rumor I hear from other YouTubers and forums. Sorry I made the joke look like it is confirmed information but it is NOT. Just there for entertainment and joke purposes. ONE R is probably the ONE X 2 or there will be some other camera coming out - who knows? I don't want to miss guide anyone tho b/c of my joke lol."

I didn't buy an Insta One X because the Android app is supposed to be terribly bad. Is this also to be expected with the ONE R?

I would like to have already an Insta for my next skiing holiday in the middle of March and I hope that the statement with Inst One X 2 is just a rumour. If not, I would probably still wait for it.

At least Insta360 has a Windows app. GoPro still doesn't even have an estimated time frame for a Windows app and they launched their product with a Mac app only. Incredible thinking to release the only desktop editing software for the Mac which has less than 10% of the desktop/laptop market. So 9 out of 10 people can't use it. Genius marketing (oxymoron). The only thing you can do on Windows is export the file format for other apps. GoPro software (or lack there of) is the worst. Their Android app is unusable for anything but selfies and instagram. I'm not buying any more GoPro hardware unless they address this. I'm voting with my $$ on the competition.

I do all of my 360 X editing on Windows with the Insta program and Adobe software so I don't miss the Android app (or lack of a good one).

So guys, theres footage out from the One R. It looks a bit better than the X, and not as good at that qoo thing. But, the qoo has some weird color stuff going on, and weird ass chromatic aberration on most of the videos ive seen. But that quality is crispy.

The R's stabilization is stupid though. I was almost offended by how clean it is. Do you guys find the insta360 X's quality to be up to standard? I know you use it for all of your videos now @Marty Backe. I wasnt too sure if I should bite that bullet because superview 4k footage out of the gopro was pretty hard to beat for most action cams. If i could use my DSLR i would instead, but im not riding all day with that thing, lmao. And a high quality point and shoot would be good too, but mainly for other people. So anyways, 360 has so many advantages, but I cant decide if its worth it with that drop of quality, (I guess its due to the bitrate?)

Personally, I'm playing a wait-and-see approach eyeing the Qoocam 8K. They don't seem to be a storied action cam company (GoPro) or have a blazing track record with software/firmware development like Insta360, so they have much work to do on the color / stabilization / software front, but like all 360 cams, they seem to have gotten their previous 4K product up to speed with the typical firmware revisions that transform all 360 cameras over time.

In the end, it's really hard to out-software just bigger sensors, especially for low-light, so 8k 1" sensors are the future IMHO.

This.

I dunno how a Tishawn does it, but after trying to lug around Zhiyun gimbal + Sony A6500 + lens, I'd rather just bide my time waiting for the much lighter action cams to get good enough. Hopefully the One R 1" & stuff like the Qoocam 8K are this.

You can't compare a GoPro's flat 4k image here because all these 5K 360 cams (minus the Qoocam 8K) flatten/zoom-in to an equivalent flat 1080P.

For me, as I tend to regard 1080P as good enough (for phones and such), I'd say 360 cams are worth it for sunny daylight stuff. The only place the quality is lacking IMHO is motion night footage, which judging conventional camera sensors, will definitely require a jump to 1" sensors (ala Sony RX100 series).

As it is right now, I dont know if theres any other option for good low light footage, which is what I really want to get. I'm trying to hide and fix some of it with denoisers and LUTs. But theres only so much I can do so far. Saw a good review of the 1 inch sensor and the guy in the video even said, its not gonna be the answer for low light filming on action cams. Its not bad, but its not the best. For PHOTOS it was pretty damn good though. I mean, end of the day, no action camera today is gonna beat a full frame sensored DSLR, haha. But its like you said, that trade off for the quality is that you have to lug around a huge setup. You've helped Tishawn a few times with filming. Just how hard is it to carry that all day long?

Well, I’ve HAD that setup before, and for me, it’s not worth carrying all that all day.  I’d rather just film with an action camera on pole during day or dusk, which IMHO gets more than a good enough result. It’s not as much about the weight as it is about having too many weighty bulky pieces to keep track of, plus the way these guys shoot, they’re shooting blind most of the time carrying an inverted gimbal on follow mode, unless they add an lcd monitor, which adds yet another bulky weighty piece to the equation.

I saw the same review, and I don’t totally agree. First, the FW always gets better for Insta360, so judging by the early firmware is not representative necessarily of what the camera will be in a year’s time. Second, I’ve seen RX100 footage that is completely passable (no noise but on the dark side), so the RX100 as well being a 1” sensor, this has me hopeful for low light with the 1” mod. Also note, the reviewer is more 360 cam specialist, not so much action cam.
