Collective Noun for Electric Unicycles - Because our sport is so unique and not very common at this point in time. It seems we have an opportunity to define ourselves and maybe even determine what we are called collectively. Let's take a poll of those who are the most active and see what we would like to be called.

The clue was in the question ... "What do you call a group of people riding Electric Unicycles?"

I don't think so. You go on a group ride, but that's not a collective noun. So far the voting looks like it's leaning heavily toward a "Swarm".

Did you see that swarm of EUCs riding along the beach trail today? They were just weaving and effortlessly gliding along and everyone's mouth just dropped.

Thoughts?

Your question was "What do we call ourselves?" but then you provided all the options - that's a bit like a Chinese democracy! I'm not even sure a group term is required as I've only ever seen 2 EUC's in the wild and that wasn't at the same time :)

A better question should be what should we call an electric unicycle. The current name conjures up pictures of an automated clown. Google doesn't help when it shows pictures of everything from half an electric motorcycle to electrically powered normal unicycles to our rather futuristic wheels. If you search for EUC then nothing on the first page of google results refers to an electric unicycle which sadly means that our EUC's don't exist. Personally I'd say a better name is required for the wheel itself rather than the group term. Surely you want a name that expresses the freedom, simplicity and futuristic feel of these things.

We have a name. It’s an e-wheel (ewheels!)

This is a good point. I was actually just trying to get a discussion going. Success!

I agree this is a bigger question. Just one I wasn't ready to tackle just yet. An EUC is just unwieldy. And no one wants to be called something that could be a shortened name for a Eunuch. (At least I don't)

I don't personally feel there's a single collective noun applicable to all groups of EUC riders. There's a reason we have different nouns for different animals... ;)

So depending on the group, it might be seen as a sleuth, a troop, a flock, a flutter, a swarm, a sounder, an army or a horde... :efee612b4b:

But I reckon asylum is the closest we'll get to something universally applicable :efee612b4b:

Interesting read from back in the early days of EUC history. I'm fine with referring to Electric Unicycles as EUCs technically. But I'm glad to see it's already been addressed. Calling them "wheels" might be a little confusing since the advent of the "One Wheel", but that is much more of a niche product and therefore it doesn't get to claim the "wheel" moniker for itself.

So, if we are referring to all EUCs as "wheels" are the people who ride them "wheelers"? I like referencing them using the general term wheels. But I can't really get behind the term "Wheelers".

Wheel riders? That's better I think... ;)

Some indeed call themselves wheelers, in particular those who speak French as first language:

Funnily enough they call the EUC a "roue" or "gyroroue" (or "monoroue"). Strange world this is.

e-wheelers then?

But we'd still be lacking a collective noun. So...a swarm of e-wheelers? :efee612b4b:
