It's like all those silly "Learn to type on keyboard without looking" courses. Just keep looking at the keyboard, and one day you'll realize that you don't look at it anymore. thats true, but these people are mainly my friends who dont own and will probably never own an EUC.. they will probably never put 1000 km on one lol and almost every time they step on theyre very rusty

Not only do hands help in balance, but noobs have a bigger chance of faceplanting due to inexperience and they need to be ready. I think it's best to inspire noobs with advanced techniques, but it's not a good idea to force them on them. Even if I showed off myself. The role of a parent is to keep your children safe. By encouraging dangerous (for them) behavior, you're still doing them a disservice. Especially since you're the authority figure. Running off is also a skill. I can run 25km/h, but I can't run off > 15km/h. Unless you've seen them in action, you may be overestimating their capabilities. Edited November 9, 2019 by atdlzpae

LOL Arms out and prepared ALWAYS! Safety: The faster you ride, the less reaction time you will have to get your hands out in front of you to guard against faceplant. (the "run-it-out" factor goes out the door definitely above 25-27mph-ish, as I've been witness to when one of our riders got a concussion, even with helmet on). So, the faster I ride, the higher my arm will rise, in preparation to fall (i.e. building good habits). Defense: If you're in a cramped city area like I am in NYC (and as @Darrell Wesh alludes to), my arms are a key defense, just as blocking in martial artists will do. When traffic is still, my elbows are out to my sides to protect against getting door-ed (very common here in NYC), and I'll do arms over my face when passing trucks in traffic, as their doors are face-high. Turn Signaling: As with driving, communicating intent of motion is key for safety. There is no better turn signal for EUC IMHO than glancing at trailing cars and signaling (I point; not the old-school hand signals, which most NYC drivers won't know anyways) with your outstretched arm. .... and most importantly.... Fuller Turning: I suspect many do not have the footwork for this (esp if you hug your wheel body), but, as with all sport, the arms are a key driver to turning your hips farther, thus making better EUC turns. We all think we move our hips enough, but in reality, we don't move them nearly as much as we think we do. A quick arm swing will help me move my hips faster, so I can get the right body leverage angle counter to the lean of the wheel body, in driving my hips down onto the pedal and accelerate out of a wider/sharper turn faster. (for ski-folk, this is very much pole-technique, punching through each turn, etc.) Edited November 9, 2019 by houseofjob

You look like an authority if full gear. People follow authority, even to their own demise. Google "Milgram Experiment". As long as people follow you, you are responsible for them. Not legally, but morally. Try it for fun once! Tell people that waving hands above their head helps to keep balance and they will do it. 31 minutes ago, Rywokast said: i do not advise having your hands in your pockets so far no one has been hurt or fallen in any way and they all learned to ride within a half hour I'm gonna shut up.
