Test results for the new MCM4 app (2014-10-24 version)

I have just tested the 2015-10-24 version of the MCM4 app (my previous experience was with the 2015-10-16 version).  Here are my findings on what appears to have been fixed:
- fixed crashing when using English as Android system language
- fixed speed indication bouncing around erratically
- fixed the ability to set tilt-back speed levels

While I am happy those issues are fixed, I have confirmed that the same speed indication inflation in the MCM4 app with the MCM4 exists just like the old Gotway MCM2s/MCM2/MCM experience.  The app inflates about 4 km/h when around 18 km/h on GPS speedometer.  After disabling level 1 and level 2 alarm in this version of the app  it still does continuous beeps at around 24 km/h (MCM4 app speed).

The new highest setting for the tilt-back speed in this version is 24 km/h.  Therefore, in reality, you're getting tilted-back at around 20 km/h at the highest possible threshold setting.  Once again, you can disable the tilt-back entirely but I do not dare to do an upper speed limit test.  That task is best left to braver men (or women).

Why can't GW give me the possibility to just unlock it for 30km/h and then tiltback with beep? Seems like the they have the hardware for it. IF it safe that is?

Just did a "lift-test".  The MCM4 motor shuts down at 33 km/h on the gw-app speed which is about 28 km/h in real speed. Quite disappointing.

By comparison, the KS14-800W shuts down at 41 km/h ks-app speed but their app speed is similar to real speed.

so it's the same than MCM2s, 28k/h without any safety.. BMS who's wrong for high drain? protection because wheel is lifted?

can't believe they delayed this wheel as long for that, MCM4 must got 33kh safety speed to match KS. it even look worst than the last GW generation

Will that work for iOS also

I heard they have an iOS version too but it requires jailbreak.  I'm not sure where to get it though.

The current one (151024 version) as of this posting is here:

That app requires a ridiculous amount of intrusive permissions to install. What's the reason for that?

Not sure what you're seeing this is mine.

I tried it on my Samsung phone and it shows the same permission request as above.

Nevermind. It looks like I had downloaded the wrong app (since I can't read chinese). I got the correct one now that only asks for bluetooth. I'll test when I get the MCM4 which arrives in a couple of days. :-)

Is this new app for MCM4 only, of working too with others Gotway models?

I believe, currently, only for the MCM4 although I have not actually tested on older models.

Thanks for that. I got my MCM4 in the mail today. That latest version of the app in the post above worked for me on Galaxy Note 4 very well. Gotta now charge the wheel overnight, so I can ride a lot tomorrow. But still, just did a quick test on 30% battery and it worked pretty good. This wheel feels a lot different than my Solowheel Xtreme for sure.

Good luck and have fun on your new toy! :D Please keep us posted. I hope the limitations are gone.

Using app version 151028. I get the first single beep at 25 kph (GW app speed), titltback + 3 beeps start at 28 kph :-)

Haven't dared go faster. Still testing but its dark out! :-s

Hi guys,

I have been testing my Gotway MCM4 for a whole battery now and power seems good but when reaching 50% batt capacity high current drains generate beeps when accelerating.

I did not go faster than the 25 kph shown on the app I will check gps speed and revert.

I managed to drive about 35 km including up hills (about 12km) and same amount of down hills included in the 35km. Got 1 green light left and going to red when using power and 30% on the app. I decided to charge it as beeping when accelerating.

I inflated the tire at max and bad surprise the tire got blocked within the box... This is a major issue as it means that they haven't built the wheel considering the tire size fully inflated.

Another issue is a vibration coming from the bearing I guess I can feel it in the pedals when I go fast but only slightly, I am unable to tell if it is the tire touching inside but it looks more like a bearing problem.

I don't really know if it was a good choice in the end when I was looking for a wheel I was interested in the King Song but was told they are not reliable and now I have a defect Gotway...
