Just caught up with everything. I'll like to emphasize there was malicious intent with Eddie, and please do not be led astray by his attempts to dismiss his actions ("I didn't know that only mods could see IPs! Who cares if you know your IP!"). He's not contrite at all.

This is 100% reality to me: I have been compromised in a way that I can no longer safely post here without jeopardizing something very dear to me.

With that said, there is one thing I need that warranted me logging back in and posting:

If you haven’t looked, off to the side it says Livingston NJ 07039  If you look carefully at my videos, the street names are there.  As for my name, it is Eddie Moy if you can’t read.  It is the same as my channel.

I use...  a pretty good one.    But here's a list of a few if you're considering it.  You have to be careful as some say they don't keep logs, but they still do.  PIA I think is one of the better ones.

It's hard to tell sometimes which is better as some review sites get kickbacks from referral links for recommending certain ones I think.  If you're not doing something extremely illegal , I'm sure most are fine for every day sort of purposes for the majority of people who use them.

I use PIA (Private Internet Access). Affordable, supports all OS's (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS), lots of servers, decent speeds (even for streaming/torrents), 5 simultaneous connections and no logs:

We should all put this argument to bed, otherwise we would be going on for ages........, Mistakes were made on both sides of the argument, Let's move on to having meaningful discussions on what we all do best, riding EUC's and helping newbies or anyone looking out of interest.

But reading through all of this, I do have three questions;

1. How is it decided that a member becomes a moderator?
2. What additional information does a moderator see?
3. IF moderators do see additional sensitive information, is there any validation of them before they can access that information?

I saw the title of this thread and it got me thinking, I too would like to know the doxing policy. I would like to know so that I can remain respectful and stay within the guidelines when doxing.

I'm sure we can all agree, we want everyone to have the best experience on this forum. Whether you are being doxed or the one doxing, I think it's important to remember to have a good time.

The multiple account stunt is unsettling, unacceptable, and should not be tolerated, but I don't figure we stand anything to gain by further harping on the subject. I reckon the person in question learned his lesson (or at the very least, got a healthy dose of instant karma ) by having his actions exposed in front of the entire community...I can't imagine him doing it again, and if he did, I doubt he'll be given another pass...so I don't see much of a point in going over it again.

But more importantly, this thread is about doxing (on the part of a moderator), which is a much more serious offence (as we place our trust in the mods to keep this place safe for all, and entrust them with personally identifiable data that regular users don't have access to). Moreover, it's led to broader-ranging questions such as the ones posed by TFU, which I think a mod should step in to respond to, as they remain unanswered and are something I'm sure many of us are wondering about...

Sorry for the delayed answer - i disabled myself a bit on the weekend ...

1) Under the sole discretion of the forum owner, normally a discussion with proposals of the whole moderation team to propose members backed by the whole team.

2) The email adress used for regristration.

And beside, of course the whole organisational forum interface for reported post, warnings, posts of new members to be approved etc.

3) I'm not sure if i get your question right? So two answers:

- we have a two factor authorization to make our accounts "a bit" more safe. 

- moderators are choosen from the "pool" of serious, respected, active long term members, who have shown a code of conduct without bad standing.

Sounds about right for a first offence,  although it was a serious one, in my book.  IMHO, it should have been longer (at least a week) so the offender had time to properly ponder his sins and repent 

I hope  he was also issued a warning that any reoccurrences will involve being permanently banned. Although 1) I imagine that was the case, and 2) I don't mean to tell you how to do your (unpaid) job as a mod.   Sorry...

I love the community dynamics in this forum and think a lot of it has to do with just the right amount of moderating (as in users are treated like adults and mods don't step in unless things get completely out of hand), so I hope my posts don't come through as lack of appreciation for what you guys do

I think that was the right thing to do (just a subjective opinion). It shows humility, awareness of one's mistake, and the will to put the community's best interest first. Good on you, @eddiemoy!
