Really feeling for @Ben Kim, whose AliExpress Green Fashion modded 2460WH Gotway Monster V3 100V arrived to him today toasted (posting with his permission).

He will get made whole via PayPal dispute, but really deflating I can imagine having had to wait so long for this order.

Jeebus. This is why I installed the equivalent of a key switch on my wheels, so they can NEVER accidentally turn on.

Probably. 

The Monster box and foam in general was never very well suited to transport such a massive wheel.

Addendum: @Ben Kim found foam stuck in the motor axle, so this wheel probably did turn on while in-transit. Also, another local rider who received a Monster (not sure if from the same source) said the wheel turned on in the box when UPS set the package down *smh

Yup... I think all of these big modern wheels need some form of removable interlock on the start button. Doesn't need to be a "key" as such, but something physical that will prevent them from being able to turn on without it.

Well, the easy solution is to ship it with the battery disconnected.

But I still hear of Monsters shipping to buyers with damage around the handle from transit.

When a device gets that big, IMHO they need to build a custom cage and lock it in place, ala how Onyx RCR motorbikes are shipped.

That would be fascinating to have delivered to you. I'm imagining a crate strapped to a pallet being offloaded from a Fedex truck and what the neighbors would think

Makes sense for obvious reasons & from a safety perspective now that we have heard of GotWay as well as King Song powering up in transit.  Even Ninebot Z10's (due to the vampire battery drain issue) have started shipping with the batteries disconnected!  Maybe all wheels from all brands should arrive disconnected in future, pretty sure @Ben Kim would agree to that becoming the norm!  @houseofjob please pass on how sorry I feel for what must be a huge disappointment for him, I know he has been counting down the days.

Green and Fashion did a good job with the battery install. Looks like solid work, and the packs are well labeled.

At the very least, he also received his new Nikola Plus (different purchasing venue) in perfect working order, at the same time today, so he at least has that to console him.

The 18XL won't spin up until you connect to it with the app and unlock it. (The bad thing about that is if you can't get the app to work.)

it’s a bummer for sure, but my Nikola 100V came the same day, so no point crying over spilled milk! 

The monster was physically in fine condition, short of some hot glue on the shell (?) and the finger-cutting “Gotway Monster” stickers peeling off .

This is a homerun dispute with PayPal, and there is no chance I won’t be made whole. Even the seller on Aliexpress said that’s some f’ed up shit and he is glad I am safe.  

With that said, I may not even miss the Monster all that much. The Nikola is the REAL DEAL.

KingSong has done this right.

When you turn on the wheel (talking about the KS16X, don't know for the others) it is in locked state. The gyro doesn't work, the wheel won't spin. You need to unlock the wheel with their app or it won't spin up.

Do they just post a new board to you or is the whole wheel a write off, or I shudder to think ... that you need to ship it back to the supplier at your cost?

The board explosion was big enough to pierce the shrink wrap on one of the batteries. I am not sticking a new board in there, nor am I going to spend any money shipping it back to them. 

What is happening is I started a PayPal dispute with full unboxing video, video demonstrating it doesn’t work, and photos of the damage. I’m not paying anything and i’m getting my money back. Not my first issue with expensive stuff from China.

He is extremely displeased with this being online as he caught wind of it, and claims “it is not my problem”.

He offered two solutions, new controller plus a $300 refund, or he will pay for shipping back on the wheel and refund me in full WHEN he receives it. 

Both of these solutions are ridiculous, there’s no guarantee that the controller will be the only damage (I didn’t touch it since I took the inner shell off to confirm), but i do recall seeing a pierced battery wrapping, melted buzzer, and some connectors deformed; a lot more work than swapping just a controller. I have a piece of foam wedged in the axle as well which is a total pain in the arse to remove without deep disassembly.

The second solution won’t work either because I am the one held liable if this thing combusts in transit back to China since I’m the shipper and not the recipient. Also, this is all contingent on rescinding my PayPal dispute which I’d be a fool to do. 

If this was any American vendor, they’d have refunded me on the spot and ask for me to safely dispose of the wheel. 

I will say, the battery mod isn’t the cause of this problem, merely bad luck, poor packaging, and the vendor looking to save a few bucks by not insuring the package. It’s okay, I hope those few bucks he saved is worth $2800 over time because now he’s even.
