16x Issues Thread

I may not have expressed myself technically correct, but batteryuniversity.com also says "In lieu of trickle charge, some chargers apply a topping charge when the voltage drops.
This is exactly what I am talking about because it is also a form of trickle charge, or not?

If this type of trickle charging topping charge is not dangerous, why does King Song think up such nonsense with the alarm to get the charger removed.

Trickle charge is where 25 or 50mA is continuously applied to keep an NiMh/NiCd topped up.  The excess energy is (mostly) harmlessly dissipated as heat.  For a lithium battery though, that extra energy is dissipated as a house fire.  A "topping charge" is just that -- a charge when the voltage drops.  Personally I don't like that, wrt to how older lithiums don't like to hold peak voltage.  For lithiums, charge and stop, thank you.

None of my standard chargers (IPS Lhotz, Airwheel A3, 16S, MSX 84V) nor the three cheap fast chargers I’ve had, cut off the charge at low mA. The charge current diminishes as the battery pack approaches the charger voltage, and eventually can get as low as 5mA which is likely not even really reaching the battery and gets absorbed as heat. But none of the chargers cut off the charge.

Did a new board finally solve these issues? :)

Seems to be getting worse on my side, have calibrated a couple of times, including with a level and doesn't seem to make a difference. It seems like the pedals tilt back when I turn right and tilt forward when I turn left.

My KS16X arrived back from the dealer with the new motherboard installed and I have not had to calibrate the wheel in over a week now. Hope I'm not jinxing it but I'm quite certain the problem is solved. You should ask for a replacement motherboard under warranty as well.

Very glad to hear that!
My dealer is getting me a new board, but there is some delay because he needs to get it from China and the coronavirus is delaying things.
Hopefully it will be solved soon! In the meantime I just calibrate regularly.

Yep, they are very fragile. Mine did not come off yet but after the wheel gently "rolling backwards" on it, when placed against the wall and powered down, it has a tear in it and the reflector is cracked... I always make sure to place it nose down now.

Hello, today i have a problem with my ks16x...raining day,i don't cover anything so after a while i saw that something is wrong..he don't respond to shut off...and last he don't start.

Red light is allways on and bluetooth light..so i connected to the phone,i put we will rock you song and after few seconds led lights starting to light with song rythm. Also i see that front light is flashing sometimes so i try to see the reason.

My guess is that lift sensor get water...i was thinking that is the weakest point of the shell...and when i pull trolley up the light is flashing.

Now i let it to dry and i hope tomorrow he will start again..what do You think?

I hear about 2 fuses..what about them?

Same thing happened to mine. It seems a few units have a gab at the rubber front mount so water can run into the power on/off.

My wheel got corrosion damage due to the water. This come very fast due to electricity in the switch.

The good part is that when riding the switch is ignored by the control board. So if you get water in the switch while riding, it can't switch off by accident.

The bad part is you need to clear out the contact area. I had my dealer do the service on it. If you can I recommend you ask the dealer to look at it and fix it.

That answer me one question about why the wheel didn't fail when i was riding..the good thing..

The music is working, also the led lights, bluetooth and app..but the button dont allow to start, right?

I was thinking that is on and he dont work to go off..but the fact that is not going to shut down from app maybe mean that it is off and the button dont allow to start .

At first mine wouldn't turn off, then it wouldn't turn on and the I couldn't thur it off again. Also it didn't react to app trying to turn it off. After a little while I could turn it on but not off again. And then it wanted to do firmware update despite it had latest update already. Led light started to acting up.

So I sent it off for warranty service. It got fixed by the dealer and he added some water and dust improvements on tips from KS.

Since then I gave avoided to ride it in the rain. So I bough a V10f to ride winter and rainy days.

I remember that. Have you ever thought about fabricating a cover that protects the switch from the elements?

Yes and no... 😉

We have been brainstorm ideas (a select group) and it seems I get to guinea pig a sample... More about that later..

I am finalising my KS16X bodyguard order these days. So once I get this I will explain a bit more what is going on.

Yep that was ment to be a cliffhanger 😜

(I just hope I don't have to sign a NDA @The Fat Unicyclist) 😉

It sounds like you have been brainstorming with Kevin. ;) He should be able to incorporate some sort of neoprene switch protective flap into the Bodyguard design.

I’m going to fabricate a molded silicone switch cover in the next few days so I never have your experience. If it works I’ll pass it on.

Well it isn't that simple at least from the pictures I got.

I am still not sure if the water came from the outside of the front or from the inside forced up by the tire.

I am just speculating here now, but...

I think this happened because they rush build 1st batch due to delay in part changes. And apprently the hot glue gun guy from GW visited the KS manufacturer line those 2 weeks he had holiday from GW. 😜

In other words unlucky assembly process. Since this got reported through different dealers I am pretty sure KS have taken steps it should not happen in later batches.

But yes Kevin and Chrissi have put ideas into practice. I were just on a call with her right now. I can say so much you will see a bodyguard at a totally new level.

We a testing stuff that have not gone out to customers yet. I am pretty excited to see the end result.

I have the first batch as well so I will be interested in seeing the new Bodyguard adaptation. If it holds up to this degree of high water pressure I’m sold.;)

Exactly this happen :)

But i think that disconecting and reconecting the batterys can solve the problem..he just need restart by cutoff power.

Update..i open the wheel.. Disconnet batterys..reconnect again..motherboard and bluetooth ON..cooler started for 1-2 seconds like when i start to recharge battery..

That give me confidence that it seems ok,i tried to recharge before, charger was red but cooler was not starting like before.

So i push the start button..nothing..i dissamble front panel, take off button jack..put IT back...try to start..nothing

On thing is shure, motherboard and bluetooth is always on when battery is connected..so that ia not ok..

I try to look for water signs..nothing..

I was looking specialy the place near trolley holes..because inside there was going some water for sure...

I need one electronic specialist to look better for short circuit signs ..or to measure to see where is the problem .

Well..i managed to start it..and find the problem 😁

1st i saw the jack wire from lift sensor..and because i suspected the sensor i disconnect jack from both sides

Then i saw that motherboard and bluetooth are off i think..

Then i took the button and i connect it with jack.. then he start..i try to stop from button but nothing..i try to stop from app and he stop..ok,its a good thing..but i push button and he dont start so i take off the button..when i put it again to jack,he start..if i take the button out from jack he stop ..

So i need another button..but the big question, how it was broken the button? Can be something else deteriorated because water?

The switch in/off button is broken but i can use it for test to start and stop the wheel.

It work in 4 steps:

1.connect switch to jack = motherboard and bluetooth are on

2.disconnect the switch = the wheel is on

3.connect the switch = lights are off i think

4.disconnect the switch =the wheel go off

@RoadRunner not living anymore in Germany..the wheel i take it from someone i knew and was sell it here.

The switch is probably not defective. Take an electronic spray if available and spray it into the switch. Otherwise blow through with compressed air and/or dry with a hair dryer.

Afterwards it will work again for sure.

I don't see any signs that the switch is broken..i will try to measure and i will change it..its just a small push button switch

Yeah, that's what I said. It's not broken.

So no need to replace the switch.

Hey guys!

Have the cutout issues been fixed with the 16X now? Safe to cruise in the mid to high 20's and maybe hit 30mph? Thinking of buying one to go with my MSX 100V.

Also at 50% and under battery levels what speeds are you getting limited to?

Thanks all!
