Ninebot E+ For A Noob

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

This is my first post as a new member so also saying hello and glad to be here.

I am looking to buy my first EUC in my quest to expand my admiration of alternative forms of transport, Im currently on an electric scooter at the moment (Xiaomi M365), and although they are a fun commute, the EUC just screams the alternative Im looking for as an embracer of electrical transportation. Im looking for a EUC that I can ride occasionally (2.5miles each way) on most days and have come across the Ninebot E+.

Would the Ninebot E+ be good as my sole/main EUC?

I havent got much to spend but I can buy an E+ second hand for £400 and am seriously considering buying!

But are there others I should consider?

Many Thanks.

Alex

Hi!

Nothing wrong with the E+, it's just really old and quite slow in comparison to modern wheels. But for £400, I guess it's ok (if a bit overpriced... not sure... probably a bit overpriced... someone else has to tell).

If you can live with the shipping time, you can have a new V5F on Gearbest for ~£360. I'm wondering if this is the better bang for the buck. https://www.gearbest.com/scooters-wheels/pp_009603248598.html?wid=1433363 On the other hand, you'd have the E+ right away.

Maybe you also find another nice used wheel if you're lucky. You could post a "Looking for ... in the UK" thread in the private sales forum.

Good luck!

Yes, definitely. Still rockin' an E+ for over three years. If you can live with a lower speed (max 14-15mph stock, 18-20mph with speed mod) it's still a great wheel even if an old design; it's still attractive, durable, dependable, AND very affordable (and survivable :P). Also, Speedyfeet UK still sells parts for them at very reasonable prices.  I personally wouldn't spend more than $300 for a used one in the US, but in the UK £400 may be a good deal. The range is modest at 10-12 miles, but you can always mod the battery cover to swap battery packs in less than 30 seconds. I have gone 45+miles with four spares in my backpack on a single ride.

I think the V5F is probably a great wheel around the same price , but it's a 14" and can't be modded like the E+ can. It has a much better trolley handle though.

i highly recommend against the ninebot one.. ive gone over it extensively before, but basically it is an extremely slow, uncomfortable and lackluster EUC compared to anything made in the last few years.. i agree with the suggestion of the V5F it is an infinitely better wheel.. and ps 400 euro is a total rip off.. almost 3 years ago i bought a brand new ninebot one for ~700 CAD (475 euro) shipped.. if it was for sale for 100 euro i would say maybe, just to see if you like it at all, but you would get tired of it and want to upgrade very quickly

£535 for a V5F also isn't exactly cheap. Seems overpriced. Unfortunately, the low end of the market is really bad in terms of what you get for the money.

Ideally you'd find a nice used 14D for like £400. But that is a question of luck.

Wow, really?! Do you know why or have a source/explainer?

sorry, i stand corrected.. they must have some in an EU warehouse.. i asked them and they told me because of the battery being installed they will no longer be able to ship outside of the country... but i just went and checked and EU is ok... so yes 100% get it from gearbest thats a wicked deal same price as a used piece of junk ninebot

dont forget, the ninebot one has no headlight or tail light, no trolley handle, way lower pedals that scrape over everything, and weighs more... also, thats the original model shown in this chart.. the new V5F has a 320 Wh battery, same as ninebot E+

Hi All, thanks for the replies. The V5F comes from the china warehouse so will need to add about £75 in import duty etc and most likely a fee on top of that by the final handler so landed price could take me anywhere as far as the £450 mark!

Personally, a V5F will be awesome, and I genuinely prefer the V5F over the ninebot. However, I could probably get the NInebot down to £350 too, which for me in the UK is a great deal. In the US its probably not a good deal, but hey, thats the crappy pound against the dollar for ya!

How on earth can I tell the wife im spending this money on a wheel, she will hit the roof lol, thats the hardest part of it!

Are you sure about this? Usually those Ali etc. prices include all fees and taxes. But I don't know.

E+ for 350 sounds reasonable, though, and you can have it right away.

@meepmeepmayer

Unfortunately, today I'm not going to say any more positive things about Gearbest

Many people here know that I am affiliated with Gearbest and that I receive commissions, usually with my good deal.

I want to tell you all that I prefer my position as a forum member to my Gearbest affiliate position

I had serious issue with gearbest customer service two month ago, for an order, and they were not honest with me

I lost money, They did not even want to use the shipping garantee for refund my order lost
I paid for the shipping garantee for nothing, The package never arrived, In addition Paypal didn't want to refund me, because of Gearbest who blocked the ticket i had opened with Gearbest order

I am affiliated with Gearbest, but they have been horrible, the worst experience with them, If they were not honest with me, they might not be honest with other members

Drop the transport warranty and if there is a problem, treat it directly with Paypal only, otherwise Gearbest will make the ticket last two months
To wait for a euc two months, and wait another two months to change it if any issue, ...no, i'm not agree
For me Gearbest it's over
it's thieves
in addition I must announce you something else that I discovered...

I had 2 wheels from gearbest, no issues and no taxes.

But I would put my money to used one.  Since you'll be upgrading once you get going, get the cheapest with decent battery.

I have the E+ and it is nice for the price I got it, but it is old compared to the v5f. In so many details I won’t list it, but one important: it is a 500w motor on a 16” wheel, that is in the lower side of security. On a 14” like the v5f the same 500w has more torque, so it is not as wrong there.

euc entry price probably stop a lot of people, but once you get the bug you understand the value.

edit: important point about the E+: the battery wears on the covers, which can be dangerous and needs some modding. It also can get gravel inside the compartment which can pose a risk to the battery.

The handle breaks.

i like my E+ but in 2019 it needs to be quite cheap to be worth it. In France they generally go for 150-200€, got mine for 120€ cause broken handle.

Doesn't the V5F and V5F+ accept the same trolley handle as the V5 but is optional?

Also, I think the eWheels comparison charts deserve further explanation:

E+ max speed (unmodified) is 14-15mph; sustained cruising is more like 13.5mph with a fully-charged battery, 12.5 at 60% or less.  That's fast enough if you're not in hurry and don't want the higher risk of major medical consequences with faster, beefier wheels. Also, there is no way you can achieve a range of 21 miles unless you weigh less than 130lbs and ride 10mph or slower. My real-world experience is 10 miles typically with a fresh young battery, 12-13 miles best case at moderate speed, and 6-8 miles on low air pressure and hard riding. As for torque, I believe the big advantage for the V5F+ is the 14" wheel, not the power rating. Granted, the E+ acceleration is slower than most wheels, but it's not bad if you have low or moderate expectations.

If you want a real headlight or taillight, you will need to add your own to any wheel with only a few exceptions. The E+ has 2 screw mounts in the front for an optional trolley (they cost too much and are somewhat hard to find) or accessory bracket (very useful), and one screw mount in the rear. I don't see any such options for the V5/F/+. I use a 7-LED headlamp which is far better than most any built-in solution that I have heard of, and I only attach/ carry it with me when needed. As for taillights, there are a plethora of low-cost bicycle lights you can mount with double-stick tape. As for the pedals, it's not that the E+ pedals are lowriders, it's just that Inmotion pedals traditionally are positioned much higher than others.

Weight does not seem to be an issue at 35lbs or less for most people. The E+ is a simple wheel to dismantle, repair, and conduct Frankenstein experiments on if so inclined :dribble: From videos I have seen, dismantling the Inmotion wheel is more challenging and time-consuming.

The E+ is a good wheel if you look at it as the old-school VW Beetle of EUCs (without the oil leaks). It's a great first wheel for new riders and will last as long as you need it to. It's a great, cheap second wheel to keep as a spare for visitors, friends and family, as it can take a lot of abuse. If you are price-sensitive and can't afford to buy a new wheel (auto, house, wife, etc.) every year or three; if you don't want to spend a lot of money up front (or for several years) and can live with the limitations; and if you can find a good used wheel at a great price, the E+ is still a solid, reliable choice.

they both include the trolley handle in the box.. E+ sustained is more like 12.5 actually if youre lucky... less than 12 on the C+ (depends on your weight since the motor will tilt you back sooner if your acceleration is more harsh), depends on who you ask, not fast enough for me in any situation but i guess you will always be able to run it off lol.. yup that range is more what im familiar with.

i disagree about the headlight, 90% of the time i dont use a headlight at all on my wheels at night, and the other 10% of the time the included one is perfectly good for absolutely anything, maybe i just have good eyesight idk.. if you wanted to you could just use a strip of velcro and very easily put any attachment onto the trolley handle.. yes dismantling the inmotion takes more time, but it is not more difficult.. the ninebot youre prying panels off with the might of zeus hoping they dont snap in half like it feels they will the whole time lol.

i dont disagree that finding an E+ to use as a side or beater wheel is a bad thing, but i disagree at the price of 400 euro for one lmao, maybe 150-200... a used one three years ago wasnt worth that much, how is it today? coming from thousands of km on a ninebot as my first wheel i wouldnt pay even 300 euro for one thats brand new, compare it to literally any wheel made in the last few years and it feels extremely outdated to me i have absolutely zero desire to ever ride it only reason im keeping it is i cant sell it for enough to even be bothered

but yes these are factory specs.. theyre bs we all know that but the fact remains that a wheel with a stronger motor, muuuch harder pedals with actual grip on them, a smaller, thinner, and lighter wheel with included trolley handle and head/tail light, same battery size, 5 kmph faster top speed with way faster acceleration and braking, and for the same price but brand new?? how is it even a comparison.. ive owned and used both extensively and it is no comparison at all no one on earth trying these side by side would choose the ninebot

May I suggest that you rid yourself of your lowly E+ by selling/donating it to a new rider like @AlexEssex so he/she can join our community? :)
