Throughout parks in the city, the set speed limit for riding a bicycle is apparently 15 miles per hour. Rangers have setup speed traps around parks, using radar guns to clock people on bicycles who would dare cross that threshold. Apparently, this move to ticket cyclists expands outside of parks as well, as the Denver Municipal Code bars bicyclists from riding at “a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions then existing or in excess of the posted speed limit.” I'm going to guess this enforcement (note the radar guns) will eliminate a lot of scooters and cyclists on both public streets and park trails. LanghamP Posted June 28, 2019 Author Share Posted June 28, 2019 Perhaps instead enforce a 3 foot minimum passing distance between people regardless of direction, and widen trails accordingly if admittedly narrow trails are too narrow. From seeing innumerable eScooter riders veering with not much control, I think we could use wider trails. However, I do not favor the glass-smooth trails so beloved by bicyclists; a trail with root bumps and minor potholes is a safe trail.
