FlyboyEUC
During a night ride with @Rama Douglas, I was enjoying the San Diego Scenery when all of a sudden I couldn't feel the wheel under my feet. Then the wheel came back shooting my feet upwards. Most of the time I just let my knees absorb the bounce but not this time for some reason. I felt my body lowering to the ground and next thing I know I was lying on my back sliding across the pavement with a smile on my face (and possibly laughing?). I had just experienced my first fall on pavement. It all happened so fast and I probably was not going more then 15 MPH but I ended up riding over a small recessed manhole cover. My left arm was the first to hit followed by my shoulder and left hip. I rolled onto my back immediately and started to slide on my back with feet in the air (for what seemed like a foot or two but probably only a couple inches). Helmet shows no sign of contact with the ground. Luckily I ride with a cheap armored jacket that saved me from any road rash and bruises. So I just wanted to put it out there that forearm, elbow, shoulder, and back protection is nice to have. I would have had road rash all over my back and arm had I not been wearing it. Here is a link to a jacket similar to what I have. I also was wearing a LED blinker on my back that I landed on. Still works great but now has some character. I use it to be seen and let cars know which way I'm turning. Was also wearing just a regular jacket over everything and that got pretty torn up. Though this was not a "high" speed crash, I was disconnected from my wheel and hit the ground. I just want this to be a testimony that cheap hard plastic protection is better than soft fleshy skin. In any fall on pavement, I agree with others that sliding is the best option. Other than a sore left hip (no abrasion), I am completely unharmed. Happy to also report that my KS 18XL is unscathed thanks to the hard work of @The Fat Unicyclist. Still looks good as new (after many many falls) See photos of my gear damage here. Again, had I not spent $45 bucks I would not have had a smile on my face when I hit the ground.
The Fat Unicyclist
Hey @Flyboy10 - Most importantly, we are glad that you are okay! But we are also happy that your wheel has been saved some damage by having an EUC Bodyguard on it - And I have to say that your photo shows more damage than I have seen on any of our covers. What did your wheel hit / bounce off to cause those tears in it? And does "scarring" add to your character, or should we consider offering a free replacement EUC Bodyguard for the most significant damage that any of you can inflict? Unventor
Well @Flyboy10 sad that you had to join our club of "not so interesting encounters" aka accident. At first you might not feel so much but on day two, it often the worst day in my experience. I hope you revocer fast. If I recall right you have an EUC bodyguard too (in blue /black)? Edit: Ahh misses the point of tagging @The Fat Unicyclist 😁 yet another customer that just had to put your product to the test😜

I was on a street when it happened. Maybe the little rocks glued to the street? I might go back during the day to see what might have happened. I'll post pics of the culprit. The tears are on the back right and I fell on my left side. So, maybe the wheel did a 180 when I fell? There are no new scratches on the handle and the tears originated from the top down (referencing the picture, the ground was traveling south, thus creating the triangular tear). If you are offering a replacement cover I won't say no . Been thinking of ways to make the holes bigger and making a 2000 mile review complete with a crash/wheel drop compilation (I need more videos of my crashes though, never seem to get it on film ). Trying to convince my wife I need a 360 cam. BTW I don't know if you have done any testing as far as temperature goes with the cover. I've been recording my daily rides to get temp data of the wheel. One of these days I'll ride without the cover to see if the wheel rides any cooler. 16 hours ago, Unventor said: At first you might not feel so much but on day two, it often the worst day in my experience Now that you mention it my left ankle has some pressure when I accelerate (leaning forward). Think it is just a little tweaked, no pain when I walk or stretch it. On another note and for a different thread but my wheel has been tilting back randomly at low speeds and it has been annoying! Especially with my sensitive left ankle. Feels like I'm riding the tilt back. Will try to get video proof. Re-calibrated today to see if that helps. Perhaps we should sell them for $1000 each, with replacements included? Perhaps I will PM you to discuss that option.

Hey snap That's the fully description of my injuries 17 days ago. BTW my hip still has a slight amount of pain but it's getting better. There is almost no flesh over the tip of the thigh bone in that area. Go ahead reader, feel it on yourself. The widest point of your hip area, assuming you are not morbidly obese, is this little area of exposed (except for skin) bone. When that hits the ground you will be sore there for days. Scamazon armored shorts in the mail as we speak.

A correctly executed calibration, will sort that. I experienced this "motorboating" (get your minds out of the gutter,) a few years back. Wheel feeling like a boat settling back into the water after a turn. Sometimes weird, sometimes kinda nice, but ultimately too inconsistent and unpredictable to be useful. FlyboyEUC
Update: I revisited the crime scene and found the real perpetrator. See pics here I thought I hit the manhole but 5ft in front of it there was a sunken portion of the road. Slight taper down to a quick jump back up to level ground. I probably hit both holes which sealed my fate. Both are roughly 3-4 inches deep, enough to jerk my car when I drove over it.
