Popular Post Jason McNeil
Does anyone have any experience with bulk-commercial 3D printing services? I'd like to offer the these self-standing MSX fenders—there's a similar one for the 18XL—to our Customers either free, or at cost price + shipping. Initial print run would be 50-100 of each type, ideally for around $10/unit price.
Popular Post eucinsea
Hi Jason! I am a 3d printing/maker hobbyist and know a bit about commercial services for bulk. What kind of information are you looking for? Feel free to pm if you would like about this.
Bob Eisenman
I've not 3d printed anything. However, I've Google searched the locations of 3d printing services in my local area. The Boston Public Library has 3d printing services for users possessing the file to print. https://www.bpl.org/about-us/official-policies/kirstein-business-library-innovation-center-3d-printing-guidelines/ Edited April 8, 2019 by Bob Eisenman
Bob Eisenman
When I bought my Windows 10 laptop a few years ago I was surprised to see a 3d design and 3d printing function with instant pricing and delivery to ones home address incorporated. https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/3d-print/3d-builder-resources The I.materialise website referenced in the Microsoft website can also be accessed. https://i.materialise.com/en Using coloration or different materials sounds useful too such as metal, plastic....... https://i.materialise.com/en/3d-printing-materials @Jason McNeil A little off topic but I watched this 3d glass material printing video some time ago Edited April 9, 2019 by Bob Eisenman
D3m0nzz
I would check out Sculpteo or Shapeways!
FlyboyEUC
Protolabs is pretty well equipped. I am a manufacturing engineer and I'm familiar with 3d printing. Heck if you sell enough, they could even injection mold them. Quicker but more expensive. Edited April 10, 2019 by Flyboy10
Xoltri
I had this printed out of PLA locally and broke one of the top tabs off immediately upon installation. This was at 100% fill also. Couldn't fix it, so I'm back to my DIY black coroplast fender secured with hot glue. I wonder if there is a better filament that could be used to print these more durably. If you can get the settings right it should be pretty strong. If it broke on installation maybe a hole was misaligned?? I also don't know where it broke. Thanks everyone for the suggestions & @prasket who's helped me with this over email. Still doing research if it might be better to pay for a plastic injection mold & have them made from polycarbonate. PLA is probably not up for the job & the alternative 3D materials raise the unit price to around $25.

Why not conduct a marketing study on the forum to gain some insight on how many members are interested in the MSX fender/stand and the cost they would be willing to pay. Might be good to use them as a benchmark for cost or to see how many they sell.

I believe Jason is interested in providing these as freebies to his MSX customers. Kind of like the X-Large pedals for the KS18XL. You buy from EWheels and you get these thrown in. Yes I remember Jason's motivation to incentivize MSX purchases, which is a great business decision, but at some point the initial tool and die costs may exceed the freebie approach. Selling the MSX fenders outright to non Ewheel customers may be prudent and would help defray the up front expenditures. It is also feasible that the fender/ stand design could be engineered to accommodate other wheels just as @The Fat Unicyclist is contemplating fabricating Bodyguards for other models. The downside: Jason may need to hire more people.
scotchtape
I have a Lulzbot Mini 2 and this is too big for it to print I printed the one without the parking feature and it's a very tight fit (wheel rubber scraping against the fender in certain spots), I had to break off the bottom tabs and just use double sided 3M tape and some gaff tape to hold it in place. Works for now with no scraping. I would recommend making sure the fender has more clearance for the wheel as it's really really tight. I just designed a simple "kick stand", not super stable but works if no one touches the wheel, I will post the STL after I test it out if anyone is interested. scotchtape
Print PC or PC Blend (Like PC MAX or Filaments PC-CPE), 6 perimeters and 40%+ infill. Nylon is good too, like Alloy
