First night...

So my brand new Glide 3 arrived yesterday! I read all the manuals, got it charged up and decide to investigate it while my girlfriend is taking a shower. I'm in the kitchen near the shower and I power my wheel on...cool... I lift it off the floor and it starts beeping like crazy... I'm prepared... I hit the kill switch under the handle. Girlfriend "What was that?" "Nothing hon... that's just the warning noise it makes... I know how to shut it off."
Cool. I get on it... Feel the balance... I'm not going to do any movement inside. All goes well. I pick up the wheel again... Alarm goes off... Wheel spins increasingly faster... I smell something burning... I hit the kill switch... Nothing! In desperation I touch the tire to the floor (leaving two healthy skid marks on the hardwood!) Girlfriend "what's that noise? Is something on fire?" I panic and run my spinning, burning, beeping death machine to the porch... "Get outttt!"where I subdue it... like a man...  and leave it outside in case it gets any more smart ideas.

So... windows open... burnt plastic in the air... Tire tracks in the kitchen... my girlfriend emerges and sees the devastation... she's super cool... but we laugh alot about it later!

So... I think when I was trying to engage the kill switch the rocker was only having one side go down. Operator error... I thought setting it on the floor would also solve the problem... nope! I found a small lump of burned plastic... Which I thought was the mudguard... but the Glide 3 doesn't appear to come with one standard.

So... Thoughts on my noob experience and any idea what that lump off plastic might have been?

Hi, congrats on your new purchase! In case you didn't know, you're supposed to press the button under the handle AND hear a beep before picking up the wheel. You might want to pad the exposed parts of the shell so the shell is less likely to crack while learning.

I used this:

protective film

and this:

padding

As @tessa25 said, wrong order

Yeah, I'm not sure the manuals you read suggested this procedure.

I don't own a wheel with a cutoff switch, but I believe all wheels have a safety protocol which prevents the wheel from being shut off in motion.  So as your wheel was spinning it thinks it is in motion so therefore the button becomes inoperative.

As to why it shut off the first time, I think it had nothing to do with you pushing the button and everything to do with the wheel reaching maximum wheel speed and shutting off.

Why it didn't shut off the second time is anyone's guess, maybe you picked it up at almost vertical which would not allow it to reach maximum wheel speed.

You are very lucky you didn't hurt yourself.

I suggest you read the manual again, and maybe watch some review videos of your specific wheel.

As for the burning smell; too little information.

Thanks Tessa! Yes... In the box from ewheels there was a pre cut clear film that I assume goes over the outer casing before attaching the ankle pads? Also there's a cover included... wick was fortunately self explanatory! Manual mentioned nothing about the included film... hence joining the forum this morning😄

Your story gave me a good laugh:efee612b4b: It happens to the best of us. The kill switch no longer works once a wheel is at a few kph/mph of speed, otherwise any accidental activation when driving or a tiny electrical malfunction of the switch would crash you in the worst way. And the trick to dealing with a wheel gone crazy is just holding it up till it switches off. I learned that like you, after a nice burn mark in the carpet (it's only rubber so it goes away).

Just be aware, if a wheel is tilted, it wants to get rid of the tilt. That's how it works, that's literally all it does. So it accelerates until it can't (as the tilt doesn't go away off the ground), and then gives up and switches off. And holding it up will tilt it. So you either wait for the shutdown, or (advanced technique) massage it back to low speed (where you can put it down safely without burn marks) by controlling/tilting it in your hand. Any cut-off button would have to be pressed before any tilt appears (=before lifting it).

The burned stuff seems like some packaging plastic was caught in the wheel well? I'd double check that your actual wheel itself does no longer smell suspicious, but this should be no issue.

May I ask how you learnt about EUCs, how/what you researched, and why you ended up buying a V8/Glide 3? Also, what are these mythical "manuals" you speak of?:efee8319ab:

Other than that... if you have wrist guards, right?:efee47c9c8:

I learned about EUCS back in 2015 at the International Jugglers Convention in Quebec. Waited to get one and they've...

only gotten better!

I went with the Glide 3 after reading many reviews praising it as a good starter EUC. The LEDs are important for me as I well be using it in juggling performances.

I've figured out that my tire seems to have shipped not being fully seated on the rim... causing brushing against the interior housing. Ewheels has been great at customer support during this!
