Z 10 Battery

Hi all,

Anyone here who has an idea about how many cells a Z 10 battery has? I was lucky enough to receive a z10 with a faulty battery & I want to rebuild that with new cells. I have been looking to get Sanio 

NCR18650GA 
3.6v nominal voltage
3500mah
10A max current rating of discharge

Imo they use 14 cells in serie - makes 14*3,7=51,8V nominal and 14*4,2V=58,8V max. This maximum Voltage should be written at the charger (and can be measured at the chargers output without load).

If this is right and the Z10 has 985 Wh advertised one should have a two times 14s3p configuration. 985Wh/(14 cells * 3,6 V * 6 cells_in_parallel) = 3,26 Ah per celll could make sense...

Here is written that most likely LG MH1 (3,2Ah) are used:

I assume you have already seen 

The BMS cuts off the battery output once the cells get below some certain voltage - so the battery pack voltage cannot be measured anymore.

If you tried all this and could not reactivate your battery it would be interesting which cell voltages your pack has!

Have taken a look at the LG MH1, too? Has officially only 3,2Ah but slightly better discharge graphs than the NCR18650GA:

Also for 2,3 and 5A the LG MH1 provides slightly more energy discharging down to 3V. But could also be just a lucky/bad sample used for testing...

I have no practical experience with either of these cells - just looked at this discharge graphs of a single cell test... :(

Regarding your battery pack build project you should take a short look at:

"A battery expert once said: “I have not seen a cell balancing circuit that works.” For multi-cell packs, he suggested using quality Li-ion cells that have been factory-sorted on capacity and voltage. This works well for Li-ion packs up to 24V; packs above 24V should have balancing. Most balancing is passive; active balancing is complex and is only used in very large systems."

There is no(t too much) practical experience/knowledge about the balancing capabilities of the Z10 BMS, but normally the wheel BMS have quite poor passive balancing. (There was one topic here in the forum of a poster who disassembled his battery pack of a Z?10/6? (1) and wrote of a passive balancing system capable of bypassing 50 mA, afair)

You will invest some time and money!

... but i have no idea how well matched your cells will be and how negative such effects will/could be for such an project!
