Girth Brooks
Hiking boots will stick in the ground and twist your leg if you're not careful. Happened to me while learning on my Z10. I switched to a pair of Vans MTE with some fpinsoles. I highly recommend. Those MTE have good cushion on the ankles too. I ride mine off road as much as on. Dingfelder
I had that experience with snow boots with a very heavy tread pattern too. They froze my foot in place while the rest of my body twisted around it. Murder on the knees!
