Alternative Mudguards for GT16

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Some time ago I saw this topic on EspritRoue (French Forum): https://www.espritroue.fr/topic/4431-gt16-garde-boue-alternatif-et-amovible/

It is where I got the inspiration to do my own try, which worked out well!

I decided to sell my GT16, but would not do it with the original mudguard as it is not very good... I had to change it before selling it on eBay! (Link)

I bought this ~3 EUR plastic fender on eBay shipped from the UK: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F253841784004

I cut the fender on the red line (see image attached) and folded it on the blue lines (the main long ones are easier to fold, but the others are not too hard.

I ended up folding the other 2 outer tabs to make sure no water could pass that way either (even if most likely it wouldn't).

I used super glue on the middle folded tab to paste it into the area over the well, to make sure it stays in place.

I tied it with brides, from the longest/closest side hole trough the side attachment hole around the handle bar.

It stays in place perfectly, it doesn't move, it is close enough to the wheel so it doesn't stick out too much and at the same time it is far enough for the wheel not to touch it (as would sometimes happen with the original mudguard).

See the pictures for the result attached.
