Battery Rebuild Ninebot PTR Elite +

Recommended Posts

Had been searching for modestly priced rebuilt packs in the US with no success.    Finally ended up doing a pack rebuild on my own.  Found the exact OEM 18650 LG Cells out of Korea for $230USD for the 60 cells.  Pure nickel stripping and cell  holders cost another $30, but was able to reuse the original 15S2P BMS's which both reset nicely. I already had the spot welder. The  "new"  LG cells were from a  2016 mfg batch and equally charged at 3.7Volt  give or take .04

I have been running the pack for six weeks now.  Working like a new pack - of course it almost is new!

Just here to say that rebuilding a Ninebot battery pack can be done by  "carefully"  following guidance found online and Youtube. Learn from other people's mistakes and successes.

I did have someone standing by with fire extinguisher and I wore gloves, eye protection and full face shield while working with the packs.  Spot welding batteries can go smoothly and easy until IT DOES NOT!   I had no problems , but took my time and checked and double checked polarity, wiring positions, placement  BEFORE every weld.

I will rebuild all my packs from now on,  but will try to maintain the same "sense of danger " as I did doing the first pack.

Do you know where to adjust the reported voltage or (over voltage signal) for the BMS?  I have one that reports the incorrect voltage (too high), I'd like to adjust it.

I have a ninebot elite+ and a standard model. The standard model has started to shut down to protect against a surge in battery 1, I'm guessing this is some faulty cells so will need a rebuild - not something i want to do but i use this for my business and I cannot get hold of a replacement (I did purchase a new elite+ battery from china but it does not work! - they said send it back and they will fix it, but the lithium battery is too powerful for any courier in the UK to accept).

Do you know what cells are needed for the 450w battery?

If i upgrade the cells to make an elite + battery can i use the same BMS or do i need to buy a new one? if so do you know what i need to purchase?

please help - I'm getting a little desperate.

You want cells rated for high continuous current drain. The MiniPRO uses these two types:LG MF1 for the lower capacity batteries, and the better '320' miniPRO uses the LG MG1 series. In the USA they are between 3-4 dollars each.

Thanks Trevmar, I'm working with an elite which is using 18650 cells i know the plus uses 2900mah cells, i need to rebuild a lower capacity battery first as that is the one playing up, so i'll see what cells are used when i open it i guess. is there any way of checking the bms is working ok?

Regarding the BMS - I have one battery that is completly dead, i don't know what has happened but i was hoping to salvage the BMS, is there a way to test them, or does anyone know if there is a replacement available?

I know that there is a Russian selling the BMS for the PTR Elite on ebay.  Not too expensive if you know that yours is toast.  Once you rebuild the pack (one side), attach the original BMS and give it a chance to reset.  I had to connect and disconnect (power lead) three times before it reset from showing failure voltage  (about 13 Volts) and reported 55Volts.

For the 450 battery,  Found the exact OEM 18650 LG Cells out of Korea for $230USD for the 60 cells. They are 2100Mah .   Pure nickel stripping and cell  holders cost another $30, but was able to reuse the original 15S2P BMS's which both reset nicely. I already had the spot welder. The  "new"  LG cells were from a  2016 mfg batch and equally charged at 3.7Volt  give or take .04.  Have been using pack for a little less than a year. Still takes full charge and balances if left charging until it shuts down on it's own..

Do you have a link?

I'm getting desperate for a new battery or battery rebuild and not getting anywhere fast! -  on foot or via a ninebot (sorry couldn't resist)

It states it is the same BMS for elite and elite+, are they interchangeable?

I have a few BMS's from different batteries, so hoping not to spend the money unless necessary.

what is the nickel stripping you use for the weld, it makes the job look really neat and professional, all i can find is basic nickel ribbon or the ladder style stuff. i would like to use what you have used as it has the tabs needed as well - is there a link, or what do i need to search for?

Fold them on eBay (US SIte) .  Just search for pure nickle stripping.  I used the ladder style and trimmed as needed

So the battery i opened up had clearly already been rebuilt using cheap unbranded cells. so I need to source correct replacement cells for a ninebot elite and an elite+ (i have one of each).

samsung 25r's are pretty easy to source here in the UK, will they work? - 18650/2500mAh/20A INRs

what mah do i need and what other ratings etc to be aware of to get the correct cells.

DO you have pictures?  Why do you say cheap cells?  When they make battery packs they buy cells in bulk they may not have branding on them.  Sometimes it is hard to find the codes.

Sorry the cheap cells bit is irrelevant info - I purchased an old broken elite to harvest the BMS, have a look at battery build and harvest some other parts. The machine was not at all functional and had a few mismatched bits - so i assume it had been rebuilt. The cells were 2000mah so rather than try and harvest them for a rebuild i would like to buy new cells - and make sure they are the correct ones. For your interest though, i have attached a pic of one of the cells.

I still need to know what cells i need for the an elite battery and elite+ battery rebuild.

Thanks for the pic, I'm sure any cell that can sustain a 10A discharge would work fine.  What cells you need depends on what capacity you want as long as it can support the current requirements.  I don't know why the design calls for, but I'm pretty sure it would be 10A or under given typical batteries.

One well known ebay seller for this was using the HG2 (a very fine cell for this), but that 25R would be very good also as long as you would be happy with the overall capacity.   A 450Wh pack would require roughly 2Ah cells, and and 620Wh pack 2.8Ah cells.  The is roughly, and you can't generally use the full capacity, so using 3Ah cells will get you a usable capacity close to the spec'ed capacity.

You probably already know this, so I'm not sure if you are looking for the exact cell Ninebot uses (which may have varied), or you just need to know what the minimum max-discharge rate for the cell should be.

Still tinkering with my battery - mainly out of fear before i get welding but I was looking at the BMS when i came across this on ebay.

If my BMS is not working (Hypothetically) could i replace with one of there?

I'm only curios, but might need this down the line.
