Mark Lee
As of late it's so hot around here over 100F. Since Marty and the gang's video on night rides looked so much fun. I've invested on 6,000 Lumen head lamp that fits around my helmet and turn the night to day. Riding around the neighborhood with no traffic, great fun. Nice thing about it is I can wear more protective gear, mesh motorcycle jacket and anything I want and still feel comfortable. It's has been a whole new experience in EUC riding. Does anyone else have tips and gear to share for night rides.
WARPed1701D
If the light on the wheel is crap then fit a decent one down there too. The low beam parallel to the surface will light up the road but not have the angle to go down into dips and portholes leaving dark patches in the surface you can easily see and avoid. I have an 800 lumen lamp mounted down there that is perfect and has a nice long throw. I actually prefer night (dusk ideally) riding as a result. Mark Lee
@novazeus do you do much night riding? I would figured folks living in states like Florida, Texas and Arizona would ride a lot during the night. For me it's a whole new adventure like night skiing. novazeus
i try to. if Bob doesn’t get to come with me, he complains alot, and he isn’t exactly the perfect wheel companion, yet. we still have work to do. i think we’ll get there. this time of the year with frequent storms makes my road a little dangerous with limbs and branches falling and breaking all over the road, so night riding is a little spooky right now. Mark Lee
Rode my MCM5 tonight for 13 miles after 10pm, temp was 82F. It's such a pleasure to ride in middle of summer in the total darkness around the neighborhood. Experience is nice, now I have little more than 100 miles on my MCM5 and this little wheel is something special, goes up hills as if it's flat land. Started at 100% battery ended at 81%. Top speed 17mph. A guy on a ebike pulled up next to me and was asking questions about EUC, I think we've got another EUC rider in Utah.

Hunka Hunka Burning Love
Maaahteee!! @Marty Backe we got customers lined up for some of that good good Marty merch! Shipping from Canada is horribly expensive. It might be better if Marty puts something together.

Great. Thanks for think. 6000 lumen is amazingling bright. I just got a 900-lumen light and it's pretty impressive and not all that small. Hard to believe this actually puts out 6000. But I may get it because I like the option of a helmet mount. So it will fit over a motorcycle type helmet?

Most light manufacturers put whatever they want on the box as there was no testing standard. Now companies can choose to certify to the ANSI/NEMA FL-1 standard. This is a pretty good description of it: https://www.streamlight.com/docs/default-source/ansi-documents/ansi-pres.pdf?sfvrsn=

You can adjust the width of the beam. I've got it set up so beam is the width of the street.

That looks like a screaming deal, with the 18650 batteries and charger included. Some of the reviews said that on the medium setting, they were getting up to 8 hrs battery life and plenty of light. I would probably primarily use it on my skateboard helmet. I would only be interested in using it at the 6000-lumen level. Hopefully I could get 2-hours at the level. Great price though. So, this head lamp is like having 4 cars following you with their high beams on! Crazy!

Hehe at 6000 w my helmet would of melted like a butter. Typical exaggerated lumen claims for this type of headlight. Usually you find a headlight with several (supposedly 'genuine') Cree LED's claiming multiple thousands of lumens. I believe the popular (often cited/copied) Cree T6 LEDs topped out at somewhere around 700 lumens at high amps (and even newer ones rarely exceed 1000 lumens at max output). I saved a link to a 7 LED headlamp listed at 10000 lumens from Amazon (but the link no longer works, so here's a 5 LED 10000 lumen for ya). The formula for making wild lumen claims goes something like this: Take lumen specs for Cree LED at high amps (or max watts) Multiply by 3X Multiply by number of LEDs This seller knows the game and takes it even further by placing an American flag on the product; (yet inexplicably omits the words 'tactical' in the product description). If they are real 18650's (and not complete fakes) they are usually poor quality knock-offs. Don't expect high-output or much longevity from one or two batteries running a headlight with multiple bright LEDs.
Mark Lee
All I can say is the one I've bought is recommended. I'm pretty impressed with it's performance, it's pretty impressive to have a light that can light up as much as it does. It's not your fathers flashlight. KalSeth
Be mindful of other night life. Not everyone out at night is going to appreciate being lit up by 6000 lumen headlights. Also, if you are riding through residential area and the light is going into peoples windows. Keep a look out for critters, deer tend to wait until you are right beside them then panic bolt across your path. I love riding at night!
Lueksparky
Just got home from a night ride with @Mark Lee and have to say the headlamp he bought is everything he said. I was very impressed with the light output and found that as I was following him I was scanning the road ahead by his headlamp and not my own. The V10F has a good light on it, but I find that the angle it shines in front of you sometimes causes shadows that make bumps and dips in the road look worse than they are so I find myself riding substantially slower. With a light from above it helps and the light @Mark Lee bought is a substantial improvement to night riding. I'm going to pick one up myself. Also a quick shout out and thanks to @Mark Lee for letting me try out 4 different wheels tonight, Mten, MCM5, Kingsong 14s and his ACM. All enjoyable wheels with their own slightly different characteristics.

However this light puts out enough light to ride an EUC at the speed I would ride during the day. For what it is, not a bad investment to open up more ride time during more pleasant temp and empty roads. Safely.
Mark Lee
Another AWSOME Night ride tonight. The ride of choice ACM2(1600wh),16.02 miles, top speed 21.3 mph, avg spd 14.5 mph. Battery started at 100% down to 76%. I'm noticing that the cars are giving me a lots of respect with this Headlight. I do my best not to shine it to their eyes and they in return gives me a lots of room and they also slow way down. Very nice...
