Medialab
Any engineers or insane hobbyists out there have any thoughts/ opinions on how feasible a railroad track attachment mod would be?
Hunka Hunka Burning Love
Hmmm.. maybe try taking off the tire and inner tube and ride metal to track metal! Might be too slippery. Maybe attach a band of rubber inside the rim. Rim might be too narrow as the head width is about 2 and 3/4 inches? http://www.icrr.net/rails.htm Any why exactly would you want to do this? Are you a railrodder?
Medialab
It seems like it would be easier than modding a bicycle like the one below. Could be useful for people wanting to adventure on old abandoned (or seldom used) railroad tracks.
The Fat Unicyclist
The problem is that you move your wheel side to side (ever so slightly) to balance. On a rail like this you would need an outrigger just like a bicycle to stay upright...

With a bicycle you have to keep two wheels on the track (one of which naturally swivels). With a UEC however, you just need to keep one (non-swiveling) wheel relatively upright and traveling in a straight line.
dmethvin
@Medialab if that's the case, try balancing while in a groove on a sidewalk or pavement. I don't think it can be done. The single wheel of an EUC is closest to the front wheel of a bicycle, which needs to move laterally in order to balance.
Hunka Hunka Burning Love
I think theoretically it's possible.
Rehab1
I can visualize developing a contraption to ride the rails but this might be the safest approach. ?
