Bob Eisenman
$50 at Micro Center 1 TB USB3 external HD (Western digital) My gigabytes of 360fly video, Action Camera video and limited HD space on my laptop convinced me that it was time to consider moving the GB of video to an external HD. The extra freed up laptop drive space can be used to more efficiently run programs. I'm not in to the cloud storage stuff so this option works for me and fits into my laptop bag. Esper
Nice! I have 2 external HDs. One is the same brand as yours, the other is a plug and play with a encryption from Buffalo. https://www.wdc.com/products/external-storage/wd-elements-desktop.htmlhttps://www.buffalotech.com/products/ministation-extreme-nfc
Bob Eisenman
For much more money you can buy a wireless one with an SD card reader. Put it in your laptop case and never take it out to keep it connected. http://www.microcenter.com/product/463232/my-passport-wireless-pro-3tb-usb-30-25-portable-external-hard-drive---black
Esper
Wow, that's neat. I don't believe it would work well with my desktop. It doesn't have a bluetooth or wifi transceiver.

Well.....to create a wifi network you buy a wifi router which connects to your desktop with an Ethernet cable plugged connecting each device and with supplied software installed....not too difficult depending on how you set it up. http://www.microcenter.com/product/383878/300mbps-10-100mbps-wireless-n-home-router To create a Bluetooth connection you purchase a USB Bluetooth dongle and install the appropriate software. http://www.microcenter.com/product/426849/usb-bt400-usb-20-bluetooth-40-adapter I have an old 'Buffalo wireless router that must be more than 10 years old running on Windows Vista. Esper
Ah ok, so the device connects via wifi network. I had thought that you meant this; Take a laptop outside to the park, and the external is in my backpack and can connect to the laptop without a direct connection. If my friend wanted a file on it, he can sit next to me, open up a phone/tablet/laptop and connect to it directly and select the song or video and copy it over. I know how the home network setup works. I first used it when the Xbox 360 came out so that I could watch movies that are stored on my computer and play them on the TV through the Xbox. I had thought this wireless data storage used a type of bluetooth or RFID to connect directly.
