When I re-connect the cables to the control board I apply some silicon to keep the wires from moving.

using a glue gun also works and is a quick fix and works fine

Glad you got this working again!

But what do you mean by "tuck the wires in"? However you manage the cables should make no difference. Everything should be bombproof... well, rattle proof. Make sure you don't have a loose connecton, imagine something happens during a bump when riding!

The thick red and black wires go to the battery. Maybe have a closer look everything with them is alright?
