Rock climbing, Yosemite climber deaths, Google rock climbing , a 360 camera view

Recommended Posts

In 9th grade a wrestling coach took me and a friend Rock climbing near New Haven, CT. One day the Yale outing club showed up on the cliffs. My friend and I learned to 'trust the rope' , climb, belay and rappel. The idea of climbing big rock never caught on and when my family moved out of CT the skills were shelved. Fear of anything beyond what our coach exposed us to was a real determinant in my lack of interest. I learned to recognize climbing gear, carabineers and various climbing hardware. I bought an ice climbing book (1978)written by Yvon Chouinard

My reading the book bothered my Dad who said 'you need to do some skiing', something we did on weekends following a move from Pennsylvania.

From time to time I read about Yosemeti, the cables at Half Dome and the various rock climbing records set there as well as the occasional story about climbers falling to their deaths (including a recent El Capitan and fatal Half Dome cables fall).

Half Dome cables death:

Recently I read something about Google rock climbing tours at one's desktop.

The following link reports on the recent Yosemite (El Capitan - Freeblast route) climber deaths and uses a 360 degree rock climbing photo at the end of the news story.

The 360 climbing photo(found below the 'Related Articles') is worth a look.

I'll have to take the Google Maps climb up Yosemite next time I'm at the public wifi.
