ledde
Hello everyone, I'm just now finding out and doing research on EUCs and I have to say I'm very excited to get my first one. I've found a deal on AliExpress for an Inmotion V8 for ~890 USD and free shipping which seems to easily be the best deal available right now. I'm a complete beginner though so I though I'd look for a second opinion here before making the purchase. The V10 also looks interesting but doesn't seem to be very available yet and is somewhat out of my price range for something I know basically know nothing about. Seeing as this is my first wheel I'd be quite hesitant to spend more than ~890 USD unless it's a significantly better deal despite being more expensive. I'm about 180cm tall and weigh approximately ~75 kg, which should be quite average. My idea is to use this EUC primarily to get around central Stockholm, for fun but also to commute to work and visit friends. What do you guys think? Best Regards, Ledde
stephen
kingsong ks16s is a very good wheel it's a bit of a favourite for a first wheel with no need to upgrade later
ledde
Very interesting, how does it compare to the V8? It is slightly more expensive but it might be worth it
meepmeepmayer
For this price, the V8 is pretty good (not sure if there will be geolocking with a China import, that might happen and then you have no app to change settings). But something like the 16S (1350€ for 680Wh at 1radwerkstatt.de, free shipping to EU) or the V10 (or even an ACM2 with 1300Wh at Speedyfeet.co.uk) is better wheel/money, because you won't want to upgrade soon. With a V8, this may or may not happen. I'd say, if you want a wheel quickly, get the V8. Willing to invest into a more long term wheel, if that's more your thing, think about it whether it's worth spending more money. Kingsong 14D/S is also an option. You aren't really doing a mistake with either V8 (assuming no geolocking, idk if this is still a thing) or any of these others.
ledde
The geolocking might be an issue but considering I'm quite capable when it comes to technical stuff, I doubt it will be much of an issue for me. Slightly annoying, sure, but how often do you really need to change settings? Objectively, the KS16S seems like a better product (and might even be more value for money) but I couldn't imagine myself using that range or going at those speeds. I'm pretty sure even the V8 is going to be overkill for a complete beginner like me. I very much appreciate the advice though, thank you!
meepmeepmayer
I know no details about the geolocking, but as far as I remember, you might need the app to get rid of an initial speed limit or something like that. But I guess with VPN and whatnot... you can also ask the Ali seller about this, they may unlock stuff or whatever. Sounds like the V8 is the right choice for you, then. 22 minutes ago, ledde said: I couldn't imagine myself using that range or going at those speeds. Range is always good, but some people don't care. Speed is another issue, 25km/h may sound "omg fast" before you have a wheel, but then very quickly it becomes "eeeeeeehh sooooo slooooooow", where 30 is "good" and you really want a wheel that can go 35. But for the price, can't argue much with the V8.

You will be surprise how fast you will outgrow your wheel. I bought the cheapest Gotway Luffy 130W just because I think the same thing: This is all I need for a long while because I'm just a beginner. Oh boy after 1 week of owning it I want Msuper X now.. Granted Luffy is just a toy compared to V8 but I heard everyone that think they will be satisfied with their so so first wheel will need to buy their 2nd.. 3rd.. and maybe more if you are @Marty Backe My wallet is crying right now for what my irresponsible mind will do to it? With that said, that V8 is kinda a good deal..
Beowolve
There is an spanish shop that has the v8 listed for 849€. https://store.urban360.es/product/sample-product/inmotion-v8/ However I don't know anything about that shop, reviews don't look promising but the price is the best I have found so far. I’m pretty sure every single one of us could’ve said the same thing at the beginning. The thing is, riding an EUC is magical, and the feeling of speed is not really comparable to any other form of transportation. Skiing might be the closest. You will wan’t an advancement buffer and safety margin anyway. The declared range is the absolute maximum a wheel may reach under ideal conditions. A real-life maximum is about half that. And if you don’t want to count the last squeeze that is done with crawling speeds, even less. 840Wh takes you a solid 40km, you wouldn’t be planning trips much longer than that. Feeling of a distance is another thing that changes with an EUC. 40km is sooo far away, wouldn’t dream of cycling or unicycling that far, right? Nope. An EUC brings distances so much closer. Range is but a side effect that happens when you’re having the most fun you’ve had for a long time! While I’m not familiar with it, I understand the V8 is a bit of a yester-year’s product regarding max speed, power and range. You should be able to find the 840Wh 16S at Ali for 960€. RockyTop
As a matter of reference. I just got back from a trip on my KS16s. I chased my daughter and wife 15 miles though hilly bike paths riding the edge of the beep the whole time. They are triathlon riders on road bikes. I was only able to keep up because the hills slowed them down. At the end of the ride I was reduced to 16 mph. Luckily it happened in the last half mile or I would have been left behind. These are kinda extreme riding conditions. I still had 10 miles range left but Not at the same pace. Looks like I am going to need that msuper to keep up. ? That's what I thought when I purchased the ninebot one E+. In fact during my initial learning sessions I had the speed limited to 6.2 mph and it felt like was doing 20. Well that didn't last long after "it clicked". I now ride near tilt back most of the time and that gets tiring and somewhat dangerous. Once I got my euc legs the 8.5 mile range wasn't enough. Now I am likely to be purchasing a more powerful - longer range wheel in the near future. If I had purchased a KS16S I would be happy and satisfied right now. ledde
I ended up going with the "International" version v8 over at AliExpress which hopefully should be safe from geolocking. I've seen some reports that they've stopped doing it altogether but you never know. I went with it because it seemed slimmer and lighter which is kind of what I'm looking for. Market for EUCs doesn't seem huge over here but chances are it won't be impossible to sell if I decide I want an upgrade or if this isn't for me at all. Now all that's left to do is restlessly wait for the thing to ship Thanks for the advice everyone!
