  1. Calling all wheelers: O.C. Beach Cities Ride October 29th 9 a.m. Sorry for the short notice. Just got a new wheel and I'm a bit distracted. Free street parking near 1401 Bayside Dr, Corona Del Mar, CA 92625 https://maps.app.goo.gl/UyJmDWmcaCf7CiD7A Note: Take the 73 and exit at MacArthur for free. MacArthur is the last free exit before the toll road begins. ____________________________________ The ride goes through Balboa Island, across the ferry to the Peninsula. We'll take the beach side bike path up through Newport Beach, continue up through Huntington Beach, Bolsa Chica Beach and then Sunset Beach. . Total miles: Approx 30-/+ Skill: Moderate (pedestrians, dogs, bikes, surfboards). We'll be on hard, flat, level ground for most of the ride. There are a couple of short distances we'll cover on residential streets and a short distance on the sidewalk along PCH to cross the bridge. I gauged the safety aspects of these portions for new, or younger riders and feel everyone should be good. This ride should be much less crowded than our first run on this path considering it's a weekday. ____________________________________ Photo opps: Yup Recharge opps: Yup Food opps: Yup Drinking opps: Duh! 2. Layover details updated 9-25 Sunday September 29th at 8 am Meet up at El Dorado Basketball 2760 E Barrios St, Long Beach https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZqJzDoKzGmJyYyFq9 We will be departing at 8:30 sharp Route: Roll down to Seal Beach, through Surfside, Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach and Newport Beach to Balboa Peninsula. The Fun Zone on Balboa Peninsula is the charging opportunity. Plenty of photo opps and cruising to be done. Charge up, drink up, act up. Time: 2:00+/- Miles: 29+/- Layover: Approximately 60-90 minutes After lunch we'll take the Balboa Ferry ($1) to Balboa Island and cruise over to Corona Del Mar then back to Balboa, through Newport Beach and then on back to Long Beach Time: 2:00+/- Miles: 29+/- This is a massive beach ride that includes major portions of the OC Beach Cities Trail Ride. It should be an absolute blast. There is a short stretch on PCH that I mapped at 1.6 mi. This bike lane along this stretch is just about as wide as a car lane. I've ridden it four times and I feel okay about it but still, I want everyone to know about it. _________________________________ @1Wheeler @3euc @Alsayyad @Ando Melkonyan @Austin @Ben Richards @BlackOutEX @Blueman @captainwells @Chairman S @Dave Frear @Dave U @downtown @Dzlchef @enigma35 @Ferreal @Flyboy10 @Flying W @Freewheeler @Gizmo Dork @HeavyGoing @Heyzeus @IRK @Jambo @John Wood @Jon Sawa @Josh Morgan @JomMas @Jrkline "Wheel Whisperer" @Kens @Kimosabi @kingkong18XL @Klin @Kyle K @M22 @maltocs @mango_fpv @Marty Backe @Marvin Ong @Mike Hanna @MikeV @Mushuukyou @n2eus @NBC44 @ndmcc @Nick McCutcheon @NightRider @noisycarlos @Peter Q @Rama Douglas @roghaj @serfy @Shawn Johnson @Sketch @Stan Onymous @Sven @swvision @Tanabe @TedTheAtheist @Terenig @tihoa @Tjtripp @TomM @Unosolo @unowheel @UpDownGo @Questor @who_the @Williepimpin @Yellowman @Yunicyle @YoshiSkySun @zentype
  3. Calling all wheelers: How about a Sunday ride along some O.C. beach cities August 4th? Post your interest anywhere in here. This first post is the official ride information. It will be updated regularly. ____________________________________ PLEASE RSVP for lunch in Sunset Beach. ____________________________________ Meet up: Avon Lot 2 at 10:00 a.m. Be ready to depart on a shuttle at 10. That means arrive early to park, pull gear, get the code for free parking, etc. Here's the link to my post on how to get free parking. Free parking requires advance planning and it will take extra time on Sunday. Arrive early. Address: 208 Tustin Ave, Newport Beach, CA Route: We'll take the shuttle from Avon Lot 2 to Balboa Peninsula. We will meet other riders at the gazebo in Balboa Peninsula Park at about 10:20. Image of the secondary meetup point. Some riders don't want to shuttle and are riding to this point first. (approx 10:20, 10:30?) https://maps.app.goo.gl/V5XyFV7AaPijKxwg6 We'll have quick, a three minute safety briefing and then we're off. Then we'll take the beach side bike path up through Newport Beach. Then take the beach side bike path up through Huntington Beach. There'll be a short side trip up Main Street for the more adventurous types. We'll continue on up the beach side bike path to Sunset Beach for lunch, refreshments and recharging (for the mere mortals) and then through Huntington Beach and on back to Newport. We'll jump back on the shuttle at any number of stops (in other words, we don't have to go all the way back to Balboa Peninsula). To be clear... Some people are riding the shuttle down to Balboa Peninsula. This is just a choice. I feel it is safer for some than crossing PCH and then getting over to the beach walk. If you want to ride the whole way down you're welcome to, of course. But I didn't clock how long it took us to do that portion. And I certainly don't know how long the shuttle takes. Some people are leaving up to an hour early to leave Avon Lot 2 and ride to Balboa Pier. The rallying point is the Pavilion in the park. I do not know how long it takes the shuttle to go from Avon Lot 2 to Balboa Peninsula Park so we'll just see how it goes. Total miles: Approx 30-/+ Skill: Moderate (pedestrians, dogs, bikes, surfboards). We'll be on hard, flat, level ground for most of the ride. There are a couple of short distances we'll cover on side, residential streets and a short distance on the sidewalk along PCH to cross the bridge. I gauged the safety aspects of these portions for new, or younger riders and feel everyone should be good. NOTE: Arrive earlier if you want to get the free parking. Here's the link to my post on how to get free parking. It requires some advance preparation and even a few more minutes on the day of the ride. Please do as much of the app work ahead of time so that we are all available to take the first available shuttle. ____________________________________ Photo opps: Yup Recharge opps: Yup Food opps: Yup Drinking opps: Duh! Good times: Oh yeah. ____________________________________ Please RSVP. So far I have.. Ride and lunch: @Freewheeler @Kens @Dave U +1 @n2eus and Chris @UpDownGo @Marty Backe @Jrkline "Wheel Whisperer" Ride only: @John Wood+1 @maltocs and "donut" Possible: @TedTheAtheist and Maltoc's friend ____________________________________ If anything's incorrect let me know.
  4. I'm looking to get a used wheel (16+) with decent range and power. I care nothing about cosmetics, as long as it's mechanically sound and works reliably. I'm buying used because I still don't have all my safety gear yet and I need to budget for that. Let me know what you got. 5. I'll be heading up from San Diego to visit family. Wondering if any OC or LA riders want to come down for a long straight and flat ride to Huntington Beach from Anaheim. 21 miles one way along the river trail. Planning to go there and back. Anyone is welcome. I'll be starting in the afternoon after I get back from watching Captain Marvel. Time will be posted later this week. I'm tagging @Marty Backe so he can invite his crowd. I've got the 18XL and will just have unlocked the top speed by Saturday. Oh yeah, this will be next Saturday the 23rd of March.
  6. Who rides in Orange County, California? besides me.
