Gotway Monster Received and Oh My God

The Monster is so heavy that it basically self destructs if it does a summer salt and lands on the outer edges.  Too much force. Sorry for the mishap. I know how it feels to scratch your new ride.

Yes, that was my original fear and it has borne out with me too. Turn off the wheel just let it fall on it's side and something is going to break on the shell.

I've possibly made a very expensive mistake. My second ride on it and it was going great. 35+ miles (plus 13.5 the other day) and battery at 30%.

I went to role over a small obstacle and ended up stepping off as I was possibly too slow to get up. due to the terrain I couldn't grab the Monster as I stepped off. It dropped and the wheel span up spinning it about and damaging my handle, and the top plastic piece, near the front light. The whole handle area is very weak. I've now got two screws on one side where the plastic inside has snapped so either there's noting to screw into or the screw has been pulled through the shell so won't hold. I've had to put 4 strong cable ties on the handle, for now, so as to not put too much stress on the remaining screws BUT I may not be able to risk riding it until I can get a replacement case. They truly are a poor design at the handle, top and front area for the amount of weight they are.

The rest of my case, pedals and leg pads are fine.

Wow, so sad considering you've only had it for a couple of days. You really had an abusive fall. I can say that my Monster has taken a lot of abuse and mechanically it's been holding up real well. The  shell isn't doing that great (but not as bad as yours yet).

As I also said in my YouTube reply, I wouldn't go through the expense and time of getting a new shell, because it's just going to get damaged again. Instead, patch it as best you can and live with the road scars. When you're flying through the air you or anyone around you is not going to be caring about how pretty the wheel looks - or not looks ;)

Hang in there and try to readjust your expectations so that you remain happy with the Monster.

As I said i was traveling too slow. Had it just fallen over and not spun up and/or been so exposed it wouldn't have started break dancing. :(

There's literally one small screw holding the right hand side together at the front end and that's the tiny one at the bottom of the front light panel. If/when that screw goes (the case is already cracked there) there will then be nothing holding it together at the front right hand side and i don't know a decent way of fixing it. I'll replace it because it needs to be and going forward I will treat the Monster how it truly deserves - Like the Bentley of the EUC's. A luxurious ride that can do more than my ACM but I'll be more careful where I ride. The wheel is too exposed.

Try Sugru,  it is fantastic for repairs and will shock proof the sensitive areas of your wheel. Easy to apply and remove if needed. There is a receipe online to make your own for big quantities. I did it for my son hoverboard and it worked like charm.

Buy the real thing if you need small quantities it is really worth it.

Well, sometimes the answer is WD40. As we all know, all of life’s problems can be solved with two things — duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn’t, you need duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should, you need WD40. :)

good point.

I never tried Sugru, so I wonder whether this takes it to the next level (the duct taping).

I've ordered some Gorilla Tape. It should help hold and cover some of the scratches until I can get a replacement shell from SpeedyFeet.

I'm not sure I want to go down the Sugru road just yet though I may get some to use as bumbers on areas that could get marked/damaged when I fit the new shell.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but let us know what a new shell costs when you get it.

Will do. This will likely be a first! Ian is trying to get hold of one for me and has said they only have purple available at the moment. I'm not sure what shade of purple it is and how it's going to look. As soon as he has them up on the website for me I'll share the link/price. Fortunately the most expensive parts are the batteries then the motor which are fine so, yes it may still be a couple/few hundred but, hopefully it won't sting too much.

Purple is the best of the 3 colors, but apparently they might have discontinued it.

From what they told Ian purple is all they have stock of at the moment and it would take too long to make the blue or red? Not sure exactly what that means other than I'm hopefully going to have a purple replacement shell when he next gets his order.

I'm quite certain we'll see a return to Blue/Red, in a communication yesterday, wrote:

Oh dear :( Subtler colours? I have tried to find photo's of a purple Monster but can't find anything. I really need to replace my case but I'm worried about how this purple might look now.

You must have agents working in the factory, how else do you explain how you're so on the mark!

You can name it "the wheel with no name", "Prince","Purple Rain", or something else along that theme. Lol

I don't know what they're worried about. Purple seems cool. I thought it was going to be closer to pink or something hehe

You could put Loci method expert in your subscript.  How do you know all this stuff?:clap3:

This is weird, but as soon as I quoted you, and scrolled back up, a new post appeared that wasn't there before.
